It will be great if this becomes an anual thing. It will really strengthen the international game.

Not a bad squad. From what Ive seen of the list of eligible Samoans they have a really competitive team.

Got a gut feeling that Samoa will take this out but Im going to be rooting for my Tongan team all the way...

With all these future Kiwis potentials playing for Samoa n Tonga i.e

Winterstein
Tuimavave
Taumalolo
Murdoch Masila
Fisiahi

does that mean they have chosen Tonga and Samoa for Life or can they change back.

Im really suprised this has come out so quickly, didnt expect all these guys to not want to wait for the kiwis but we only have ourselves to blame just didnt expect so many good players even sika manu to opt out. just wondering if these guys have been tld that they wouldnt be apart of the kiwis in the future.

With the younger guys I think they have made their choice knowing that they are shoe ins for a test spot. Lets not forget its a WC year so which young 20 something wouldnt want to be guaranteed a place to be part of the tournament and get a trip to the UK.

With the older blokes like Sika Manu and Fuifui Moimoi I think its the same deal as the younguns to a certain extent but also a way of giving back to their home teams while they still have something to offer. This maybe biased but I love the idea.

Im a little puzzled by Wintersteins choice. Im pretty sure he would have earned a spot with the Kiwis. Then again Im quite sure he would have had a good think about it. Maybe he wanted to give back too or was influenced by his family. Who knows? Im glad he's playing for Samoa.

The eligibility laws are pretty straight forward but somewhat easy to switch IMO. You can play for a nation if:

  • You were born there
  • Your parent/s or grandparent/s were born there
  • You have resided at that nation for 3 years
After playing senior footy for a nation you are deemed as having selected which nation you are eligible for. You can change your eligibility if:

  • You wait till after the end of the next WC or stand down for 2 years. Which ever comes first.

International league eligibility is a farce... Once you pick a country stick to it!!

If you went and enforced that you'd only hurt international league more. All these great players who are opting to play for small nations never would if they knew they couldn't swap in future.

Tonga have about 4 young hookers and one five-eigth and no halfback, no quality in their halves... can't see them stopping this Samoan team
