My next door neighbours shipped 3 of them over from England. A BMW and 2 Audi's. Reckon it was cheaper then buying them here...

What does he drive?

Edit - Found it. An 80k Range Rover Sports Edition.
hell we could have paid him less and got him one in NZ.
even if we had to ship a new one

I'd understand if it was an exotic sports car that's limited in numbers, but a Range Rover? lol

It's a bit of a nonsense these days as new cars are cheap in New Zealand.

It used to be cheaper to buy a car in the UK and ship it over, but that was at over three dollars to the pound.

Haha what bollocks. Most brand new cars in Aus are $30K and under...

Commodore Evoke $49,990 plus on road in Nz, $38,890 drive away in Aus. Out of aus median wage of $57,400 its 67.7% of your annual income. NZ median of $44,985 makes it 111.1% of your annual income....[DOUBLEPOST=1383633524][/DOUBLEPOST]
Packer Unstoppable - Mason | Stuff.co.nz

Mason on Packer ""I think he'll have to lose a bit of weight. But definitely he's got a great attitude. He's rung our trainer up and said he wants to start a lot earlier than everyone else."

I wonder how many of our players do that whilst at the club. You shouldnt need to be out of your comfort zone and in a new surrounding to want to better yourself.
I wonder how many times he did that here?

Compare the price in New Zealand of a new car - especially an American car - with the relative price vs wages before the GFC.

I am not quite sure how quoting Australian car prices fits into the discussion?

Camry $44,990 plus ORC in NZ, Drive Drive away cost in Aus $34,134.60 (current deal for $26K.)

Range Sport $128k plus ORC NZ, $120 driveaway Aus.

It fits because you claim new car prices are cheap in NZ, which by default requires a comparison.

They are currently cheaper than they have been because the NZ dollar is overvalued.

I think you need to compare the price of a brand new range rover in NZ and England in the same currency (any) then add the taxes and shipping costs to work it out. If your doing any more than that I think you might be over thinking it.

Considering they don't share a currency that's rather hard.
Also purchasing power is extremely relevant as thats the mark of affordability.

if people want to talk about purchasing a new car, or whether it is cheaper in nz or aus or wherever, please take it to the social forums.

For the sake of people who dont want to wade through shit to read actual news, information or discussion about player movements, signings and rumours, please stay ontopic.

It doesn't fit because we were discussing the practise of importing second hand cars from the UK, which used to be common, which has nothing to do with Australia.
My point was around such things at the price of a new Dodge Nitro, which has fallen by over $10k since the GFC.

The discussion is about one of our new recruits but it keeps getting derailed into an Australian vs NZ debate.

As per Mod suggestion, can we move these to social so I can continue this discussion.

There is probably an old Australia vs NZ debate that you could resurect there already.
