The last government was shit. This government is 20 x shitter. Move away from neoliberalism, create infrastructure suppliers, including modular homes.

The last 50 years haven't worked except for the utterly rich.
Lets go back to 1983.
Country broke, inflation double or more than it is today.
Unemployment higher, even though Govt departments soaked up more people then.
No credit for the average wage or salary earner.
Import licences required for everything entering the country ( monopolies)
Manufacturers that had monopolies and charged what they liked as imported goods couldn't compete.
Workers wages determined largely by national awards that kept most as working poor.
I hated the change when it came as well but saw the opportunity after a while.

Yep, thanks National. Let's lose the viciousness of this brand of capitalism, and actually invest in ourselves instead of the rich eh Dean?

Award wages are what keeps Australia's wages on par... or at least better than a lot of other countries...

The Nats are way off track cancelling the inter island ferry project
The current ships are life expired
Any new planned expenditure will be way more than the amount they have saved
Nz
We know the cost of everything
But don’t understand long term value - total cost of life of assets
Nats are prob looking at whether Japan has any second hand rail ferries at 150
Mill cheaper to save 150 mill now and cost 3 bill later

Wrong decision

But why? Housing makes 2.5% return and you hope for 6% capital gain. Shock market might make 8-10% return. A small business can make 30% return.
It’s so easy to make heaps MORE with your own business but people don’t step up. Why do we have squillions of small businesses where people don’t ramp them up?
Hint: it’s not for financial reasons…
I have been in business as a sole trader for 25 years and very seldom have I made 30%.
I also work weekends to prepare for the next week or do invoices banking etc etc.
No capital gains either and indirectly provide work for many people.
Printers couriers typesetter. Etc

But surely Kos this is the biggest problem we have ever seen in NZ.
Governments and Local governments kicking the tin down the road.
Trying to make the current books look good and passing the problem down the chain.
Dove Meyer Robinson was the last visionary I can remember

True mate. These ships should have been updated many years ago and with ongoing upgrades. They were having issues and non sailings 50 years ago to my knowledge.
The blame game goes on and on.
To qualify my statement 50 years ago I was the operations manager of a major freight company and was reliant on the Cook straight ferries

Someone has to do it, but there's a certain pathology required to be CEO of major companies, almost a psychopathy. John Key had it, he always dreamed of being Prime Minister, Luxon has it too, same dream albeit Key's an atheist and Lux isn't, so it's nothing to do with religious morality. Sup will know what I'm trying to say, he's dealt with them his whole life.
