General The 5 Best Warrior Games Of All Time

Sebastian

Sebastian

Apparently a DVD with 5 classic games is being released August 14. Much discussion about the games picked. Surely some of the choices have been outdone.

1999, ROUND 25 | WARRIORS 42 0 KNIGHTS My choice would be the club record against the Northern Eagles. 68-10 Ericsson Stadium 2002. When we were at our peak that year. Blowing teams away every week.

2002, QUALIFYING FINAL | WARRIORS 36 20 RAIDERS My choice would be the 2003 Bulldogs Semi Final. Incredible what we did to a full strength Bulldogs team. Away from home 48-22. Meli scoring 5 tries. Club record?.

2005, ROUND 6 |WARRIORS 30 26 KNIGHTS My choice would be the multi club record score 66-0 away from home game against the 2006 South Sydney club.

2008, SEMI-FINAL | WARRIORS 30 13 ROOSTERS My choice would be the 2008 Melbourne 1st Versus 8th battle. 18-15 with Michael Witt holding the match winning ball in the air like a madman. Rubbing it in to Melbourne for maybe a bit too long. Was sugar sweet though. And that just added to the whole moment. The ending had people, general fans, singing. As Melbourne wern't exactly popular at the time. Not to mention breaking history in the process.

2011, SEMI-FINAL | WARRIORS 22 20 TIGERS My choice would be the 2011 Prelim against the Storm. 20-12 and was an all class affair. Arguably our finest performance in history. We completely dominated the arm wrestle. And while the scores were as close as could be. We always looked in control. Not many teams can say that about a full strength Melbourne in Melbourne. And never before in a finals series. That's for sure.

Anyway folks. That's my picks. Choice yours. Go back as far in history as you want.

About time we had a DVD! but yeah could have picked better games, I would def' have the '03 Doggies game and the following week against the Raiders when Stacey's field goal won the game, and Melb '08. I'll buy it anyway, if it sells well they might do another one!

2010, Round 18, Warriors 12-6 Panthers, another defencive effort from hell, still not convinced the Pamfers actually scored, but anyway, I remember Rabs and Gus prattling on about the black tape on the back of Manu's legs while he scores a fkn ripper off Isaac Johns' kick, like ok wtf just happened there!

I'm a bit of a league tragic Historian nut so some of mine Line up with Sebastains

1) Game one 1995 V Brisbane , a narrow loss that set the Aussies a wondering about the Sheep rabble

2) 2000 Round 25 Versus the Melbourne Storm. The Warriors needed a minimum of a draw to make the top eight for the first Time.
The Melbourne Storm needed a Win to make the top eight finals.
It was a match to the death , the Warriors took an early lead over the storm in the first half and looked to be doing it comfortably. The reason this match is replayed on the NRL list of classic matches is that the Storm were instructed to go out there and break players , smash their bodies and take them out permanently.

The final scenes of that game sees the Auckland Warriors with no bench replacements left , Melbourne in using body breaking defense have lost a number of their own....however they have clawed the score line back to evens.

In the final throws of the game both Storm and Warririors players lie on the ground broken unable to stand and play on.

Final result a draw in the most brutal rugby league game I have ever seen. The Melbourne coach remarks " we have destroyed them for the finals no one can survive what we took from them "

Final match of the round week later I attended at Mt Smart , the lowly Queensland Cows defeat us.

We have our first ever NRL finals game and go down to the Paramata Eels 56 - 12....the Melbourne Coach Pops up again to say " We did that to them....no club could compete after we broke them. The hatred between the Warriors and Melbourne is born. I would say " We made that finals and took your spot "

3 ) Broncos in round six. Unable to mentally deal with the most intimidating team in the NRL , Ex Bronco Campion tells his team mates once they take a one point lead " this is how the Broncos win , they defend the Line to the death over one point "

final score 13 Warriors 12 Broncos the spell is broken

4) The Canberra Semi that Sebastian Alluded to , Eric Watson shouts ten thousand free tickets , the Warriors finally have more proud Aussie based fans than the Aussies in an Audience , a trend which continues to this day,

The Canberra Center / wing Ferguson drops the ball in the act of scoring the Winning try....The Blacked out crowd are described by the Aussie commentary as follows " Home Bush is a Suburb of Auckland tonight "

The Warriors have the ball , the score is tied , the game has minutes on the clock , instead of running it up the middle to the posts . they throw it every where other than...it goes from wing to wing in a style of rugby league not seen in the history of the game , eventually Jones gets the ball and wins the game.

5) Has to go to the Penrith games others have listed in 2008. Shayne Hayne was pissed at the Warriors that day , his attempt to beat them with his whistle was a disgrace to Australian sport . The fact he failed is the Biggest F' U' Reff the Warriors have ever pulled together.

There are many more great games but aside from 1995 the ones I favor took mental fortitude.

Yeah that was the Shayne Hayne Shocker... We overcame the odds and still beat the Storm the next week to go 5 on the trot - solid 5th place for the season, we'll leave it there :p...

I remember seeing Matt Elliot on TV sitting on the sidelines near the end of the game - he looked physically ill

1.2011 Semi Final vs Storm. Arguably the best 80 minutes the Warriors have ever played ever. Our forwards really took the game and barnstormed over the more fancied Storm. This all topped off by some classic Shaun Johnson magic that saw Lewis Brown score in the corner.

2. 2008 Qualifying Final vs Storm. 8th beats 1st to make NRL history. Witts pre-try celebration! Watched this with 10 mates and when we scored that try we jumped up and down like a bunch of school girls that had just seen Justin Bieber. Best fairy tale win ever.

3. 2008 Preliminary Final vs Roosters. One of the top 3 games I have ever been to. The crowd was electric. Highlight was Wiki knocking out Solialo out with a hitup. You can hear the delirium of the crowd in this clip.

4. 2002 Round 23 vs Broncos. Aother great game to have been at. Ali's inside flick pass to Jones had me baffled as to wtf just happened! Highlight though was the Campion and Webke fight.

5. 2002 Round 22 vs Bulldogs. Top of the table clash, both teams went into this game in red hot form. The Bulldogs were still heavy favourites having won 18 games on the trot but the Warriors really stepped up and won in style and class. By far the best game I have ever been to in terms of atmosphere, anticipation and the end result. The next week the Bulldogs Salary Cap scandal would break.

These are just 5 games from many. If I made another list tomorrow it would probably different. These ones are just the games that gives me the best memories...

I was at this game, I think that was my air horn you can hear just after the blue. My uncle was with me and got too excited, we raced off to the hospital straight afterwards and it seemed he had suffered a heart attack for real. I'm pretty sure I'll die watching a warriors game. Not good for the ticker! Uncle was fine by the way, after heart surgery.

they should put on the dvd the 5 biggest rorts against the warriors like the game against the penrith panthers in the semi final where the reffs made sure the warriors didn't make two grand finals in a row.

I won tickets to that game through Vodafone, 2 flights, 2 nights accommodation, 2 caps and jerseys and what was rated one of the best games of the year. Great game the Warriors came from about 18 points down, Simon got binned for taking too long in the tackle even though 99.9% of the time it was a penalty at worst (Mr Hayne again I think) and a Wiki special covering tackle when it looked like the Roosters would score.

Not a game I remember fondly. We were leading 18-30 then Mannering gets sent off, fairly IMO, for a professional foul. We then proceed to let the Roosters score 13 points in 12 minutes to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. The 2 extra times were good and Hayne had a shocker there by missing the ripped ball from Pricey and ruling the McKinnon in goal ball as a knock on but we should never have been put in that position in the first place...

How many times have the refs ripped us off?Like against the Rabbitohs a couple of weeks back.....It made me think of a few games before against Souths.....Remember the game in about 2006 the ref was killing us...and then Skinny Todd Byrne scores off a chip after the siren in Sydney????? Gold.........or the game a couple of years earlier where Mr Effective burst of the the kick off (after a try to us) to put someone away under the posts...

Game vs. Broncos where Sione Faumuina throws that spectacular pass over his head for Evarn Tuimavave to score under the posts
Can you believe that he said the only reason why he threw that pass was because he was absolutely knackered and didnt think he could make it across the line? Remember it was right at the dying minutes of the game. Right at the end of this clip. Rabs commentary is classic stuff lol...
