General Team for next week

to be honest im quite pissed off about todays game and i got thinking, we need a shake up, something different.

2.P. Ah Van (looked good on his debut, give toddy a week or 2 on bartercard)
3.T. Martin (not a fan but i just cant see ivan dropping him)
4.C. Toopi
5.M. Vatuvei (if fit otherwise im afraid toddy will play)
6.S. Faumuina (our best today)
7.L. Hohaia (needs to be given a chance at halfback imo, is form has been impressive in bartercard and i also read in the paper that his manager is saying he will leave the warriors if he is to be continued to be snubbed)
8.R. Wiki (wats up with rubes at the moment? id be expecting a big 1 from him next week in canberra)
9.N. Fien (played well today but i would prefer him at hooker, gatis looks to slow and not sharp enough imo)
10.S. Price
11.A. Guttenbeil
12.W. Koopu
13.L. Anderson

14.G. Rovelli
15.E. Tuimivave
16.G. Tuakura (give him a go, or even rapira)
17.M. Luck (was missing in action today)

no room for ropati although i would prefer him ahead of martin yet i cant see it happening.
any news on when mannering or fai will return. imo mannering when fit has a chance to cement a starting spot at #3, his defence is invaluble and he adds size.

I don't think the team itself is that far wrong. As far as Ah Van goes, he was great, but I thought Byrne at least tried to inject himself and through that injection it was only poor execution that cost him setting up Ah Van in the second half.

No reason why Ah Van can't go away with the squad though.

In his ten minutes Villa didn't impress, for someone with ten years experience Guttenbeil doesn't play smart enough (in comparrison to menzies mind you who had a great day)

See, this is what I don't get. The bloke gets through a mountain of work with ball in hand and on defence. The last two weeks he's been arguably our best.

Yet when he doesn't create line breaks or score tries, the things we do see easily, we chastise him. Awen Guttenbeil was solid again today. He got called out abysmally by Russell Smith for an offside infringement and in hindsight should have given up the penalty, as wrong as it would have been. Aside from that, yes, he didn't make tries, he didn't make line breaks, but my word he still worked hard. Gutts plays damn smart in a very immature side at times, he's solid, he does the hard yards, and he knows the right time to pop an offload and in between times he'll make your tackles, he'll grind it out of the 20 metre zone - doing his job, and doing it well.

See, this week Tony Martin does nothing different than what he's been doing the past two weeks, but because he gets two opportunities which he takes he'll be in everyone's team. There's little things that the unsung heroes do week in, week out, that we take for granted. Its irrational, but thats rugby league. The lateral defence, the willingness to hit the ball up, the communication in defence - we don't see it, we often ignore it, but we appreciate it sometimes when said player also scores a try or sets up a try.

Sione has to start but not at stand off if Ropati is available. I believe that the backline flows better when Ropati is at 6.
The team is going okay but probably needs a little luck and executional excellence.
