General Taylor To Panthers 2014

Not a huge surprise. Just hope everyone stays professional and it doesn't cause any issues for this year.

I read a interview that Maloney gave & he said signing 12 months out actually helped as he knew what he was doing and not letting ir drag on throughout the season.
I still think 12 months to too far out though.

If this is true I don't want to see him playing first grade this year. Too late to cut him this week.
We all saw how Brown and Maloney played in 2012.
Why should the warriors waste their time developing him further if they know he's not going to be part of their future.

Fuck him, if he's leaving when he's been given ample opportunity here. Let him languish in the Vulcans and give guys like Mara and Henry the opportunity seen as there isn't much difference and they may actually be here for the long haul.

I would rather use Taylor as depth now, and develop players who we are going to be retaining long term.

Friend is out - use Mara and Godinet as our hookers. Taylor should be fourth choice, as a non-specialist and now as a player who is leaving the club. Why develop him for another team when we hae other young players who can perform a similar level of quality and develop for US?

If a back rower gets injured, use Taylor as a replacement for Mannering, Lowrie or Benry.

Also, if Benry has these amazing ball skills that make him a maybe for halfback... USE HIM AS THE HOOKER AHEAD OF TAYLOR.

Don't even want him tainting the vulcans, takes the place of some other youngster we can be developing as his replacement.

Unfortunatly we cant keep everyone and Taylor wont be the last from here heading to the Mountains in Penrith. I knew this was going 2 happen as soon as i knew Gus Gould hired Uncle Ivan Gus knew we had the best devlopment program in the NRL and just waited for us to develop these guys and then offer them a chance at first grade at Penrith and get them on good deals that dont dip into the cap. This wont the last Warrior to leave

Im with everyone here if he commited that early let someone else take his place who will be here for the long haul and grow there development like what Penrith did with Siejka let him go now so we can free up spot for someone like Benry,Mara or Ikahihifo

this has me concerned really, he his a very good player (at lock/second row), i hope he doesn't lead a mass exodus of players who's contracts run out at the end of the season

There needs to be some solid rules about when you can sign players, announcing signings a year out is bollocks. If M.E thinks he is in our top 17 then the club still has to put out the best team available, i think Taylor is one of the most professional blokes in our squad and will bust his ass week in week out no matter how many weeks he has left.NZ Panthers for sure, wonder who will be next.

I agree the NRL need to have something like what the NBA OR NFL have in terms of what they call free agency. If your off contract and dont want to resign with your current team there should set a certain time every year (personally the day after the grand final where teams can negotiate new deals with these off contract players) I have hated for years how in the NRL you can ink a new deal 12 months out before the current season has started.

I'm of two minds with this...

Firstly, I think with Mannering, Henry and Taylor all in the side, we're just far too bland. Need some aggression in there, so it's down to Benry or Taylor, one will miss out. Taylor is going, so we can concentrate on Benry; fantastic.

However, I'm quite concerned about how many players are running off to be under the wing of old Aunty Ivan. Hopefully it's just because the Panthers are cashed up and Ivan knows a talented player when he sees one, and not because something is rotten.

Ive probably been Taylors biggest fan and am gutted he's leaving. That being said, if we have players that can play his position better then release him now or send him back to club footy. Time to develop Mara or Godinet at hooker as backup for Friend and Benry in Taylors 2nd row spot as our next tacklebot. We've poured enough resources into this kid, probably since he was 15-16. Cut him loose. Spilt milk. Lets move on.

Wish you all the best with your future Elijah Taylor.

Statement by Taylor...

Elijah – Panther

Yes, it’s true. I will be playing for the Penrith Panthers from 2014.

The decision to leave NZ has not been easy of course, but Gus Gould, Phil Moss and the group at the Panthers, together of course with my old coach Ivan Cleary, have gone to huge lengths to create a place for me as a Marquee player. This opportunity perfectly fits my talents on and off the field, around training and the club, plus in the fan, media and commercial worlds which I know will help define my career.

And I’ll be a key part of extraordinary developments the Panthers have underway, which you’ll be hearing about.

It’s an exciting venture for me. But don’t worry, I’ll always be a Kiwi. Right now I’m focused on 2013 with The Warriors and of course the Kiwis, with the World Cup at the end of the year.

You’ll be hearing more about this of course: an official statement will be out next week.

In Taylor's statement: I do NOT like the way he is already spinning PR for the Panthers with his hint at their "extraordinary developments". To me, that is advertising a rival business, and totally unacceptable. I respect him coming out with a statement, but I don't like the tone of it at all.
