General Stop bombing on the 5th

How predictable is it getting. If I was Manly I would get Stewart to practice catching bombs all week as that is 90% of our attacking play on the 5th. It was so predictable that Faumuina joined in with a bomb towards the end.
I would like to see some pressure put on with some variations. Maybe a kick ingoal (Brent Webb has the most educated boot in the team) so he needs to come in at 2nd reciever and grubber in goal. Infact, was it not Rovelli that but a grubber in for Fien? It would have been interesting to see what Fien would have done on that play if he got the ball at first reciever. I would have a guess that he would have put another bomb up.

It is becoming far too predictable. And I think because Fien was bombing so much he made that line break where the Knights were rushing up to try and take him out. That was the only positive that came from the bombs.

We need more repeat sets of sixes and also take the ball to the fringe and ask Ruben Wiki and Tuimavave to charge onto the ball for a poor centre or five eigth to tackle. Remember Ruben's try Vs the Roosters last year? Would like to see more of that as part of our variation on the 5th tackle.

I agree that the bomb was over used but most of the bombs kicked were from too far out for a grubber into the in goal to be used. I think in general we dont have a short kicking game since Stacey has left. Maybe Hohaia could fill this role but I wouldnt want to pick who he would replace....

They probably put up bombs for Vatuvei because they believe hes good in the air.

In my opinion, he gets high in the air consistently, and is able to put substantial pressure on his opposite winger. I'd continue this tactic for now.

In the two games i was screaming for anything but a bomb aswell.

Surely we don't need to bring a specailist grubber kicker in. I would like to see the ball get shifted through the hands atleast once on the fith tackle per game.

Don`t think they should stop the bomb. They key is to mix things up so the defense never knows what`s coming next.

Put Hohaia at halfback, he has a brilliant long (or short) grubber, and always manages to find an outside Warriors player. Otherwise, just tell Fien to stop bombing.

you should be doing Tui ads,, Stace had a kicking game...

we have always been shy of kickers. Fein is a dead loss and just continues the tradition started by johnny simon and gene ngamu.

we do have a kicker in roveli but they wont risk using him till he runs on.
hohaia is ok, but a bit on the slow side.
JRo used to have a kicking game but lost the skills after being switched to just about every position on the park. with patience it will return.

i like the idea of grubbers and mixing up the bombs. i would also like to see the surprise chip on early tackles when the opposition fullback is up.

i really wonder if they are practising the aerial stuff like they used to, guess you got to have a thinking boot to make it work.

I don't have a prob with the bomb, just not from 40-50m out. That's ridiculous. And if it's too far out to put in a grubber then just chip it into space. Worst case scenario is the opposition starts their set of six inside their own 10-20m zone instead of 30-40m out after defusing a nothing bomb.

I agree, I think the bomb is a weapon with Vatuvei but we need more creativity. Hohaia for me is the key. Lets see if he learnt fron Stacey. Fein isnt having the impact for me yet

It does work, Vatuvei is suprisingly good under the bombs... now if only he could fall over and place it ;)

why hohaia is being wasted in bartercard is beyond me. out of all our halves he probably has the best running game and short kicking game. I have to admit we're completing a lot more sets than almost ever before, but to be honest i was bored out of my brains, it was the most predictible game in the world. i could count on one hand the amount of second phase plays we had. it was safe and it got us the win, but is losing our trademark flair of chip and chases, dummy and scoot and wrap around 4 phase plays worth becoming as boring to watch as paint dry? bring hohaia in and rovellli to the halves, get rid of martin and toopi ( both played poo all 4 games) (( being a good goalkicker does not make a good plyer!! for all you martin fans)) Toopi hogs the ball and goes nowhere, the ball needs to get to vatuvei quicker and more often.

Hey, how about this for an idea, instead of reinventing the wheel why cant we steal a page from timmy smiths book and do a cross field kick mid tackle count, to an open and fully wound up vatuvei?? works for grothe 9/10 times and i rate vatuvei just that smidgen better than grothe (both similar, both got strength, size, and speed) how could it not work?? tell me one team that wouldn't rock, having vatuvei at full pelt and open?

I dont think its ridiculous. Fein's got the best bomb at the club. When he hoists it up there, it gives players time to get underneath it, or at least put a lot of pressure on the catcher.

How is always bombing mixing it up? Its the complete opposite, it makes it completely predictable, so that the defense knows exactly what is coming.

The worst is when they are about 15 metres out and Fien does a half bomb, half chip to Manu's wing, but not high enough to allow any warriors players to put pressure on the defence.

Yeah, but I would probably rate Tim Smith's kicking game a few notches higher than Fien's. Some of Smith's kicks are just freakish and it is no wonder that he usually finds Grothe.

Vatuvei is VERY good in the air.

It came out of his hands on Sunday (poor error), he made up for it with the other try though.

They were not bombing it to Vatuvei, they were bombing it 10m from the try line and in the middle of the field. There was no bombs to the corners and Vatuvei only contested 2 bombs which shows it was not a plan to get Vatuvei involved.

I agree they need to mix things up....may be that s something they can work to their advantage.....as teams look for the bomb...sneak in something else...
Give up all you bring back Hohaia fans....it is starting to make me sick...if he was the great he'd be playing in another NRL team.....i reckon he's gone at the end of this season barring inquiries in the squad.
stick with the winning team...keep it solid....let the 7 set the stars outside him alight....then back them up.
