Solomona hit by a passport hitch
by Peter Smith
PASSPORT problems could ground forward David Solomona ahead of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats' trip to France later this month.
Wildcats are to take on Les Catalans in Perpignan on Saturday, May 27, but Kiwi international Solomona is currently without a passport – and he won't be able to make the trip if the problem is not resolved.
The missing passport prevented Solomona from playing for New Zealand in their one-off Test against Australia in Brisbane last week.
"He still hasn't got his passport," said a frustrated Wildcats coach Tony Smith.
"He had to send his passport off to get his daughter put on it, but it has not come back.
"We are pulling out all the stops to make sure he gets it soon, otherwise he won't be able to go to France with us.
"They told him it would take four weeks to process, but it's been six weeks."
Smith added: "I think he's going to have to go down and get it. We don't think there's going to be any problems, but we are going to have to chase it up."
Tigers are without a game this weekend because of their early exit from the Powergen Challenge Cup.
"It's a good time to have a break," said Smith, whose side are up to eighth in engage Super League following the weekend win over rock-bottom Wigan Warriors.
"It means we'll have some bodies back for the next game. We've had six games in four weeks and that takes its toll.
"This will give us the chance to really freshen up."
Smith said Olivier Elima (knee), Kevin Henderson (knee) and Mark Applegarth (broken hand) could all be available for the game in France.
