NEW ZEALAND Test prop Roy Asotasi is poised to become the latest international to join battling South Sydney by inking a staggering $2.2million five-year deal next week.
In what is expected to be a major signing coup for the Rabbitohs, Asotasi will become one of the highest paid forwards in the NRL on a salary package worth $450,000 a season.
The anticipated move to Redfern comes after 2004 premiers the Bulldogs officially withdrew from the race for Asotasi's signature yesterday.
The New Zealand international's agent Mark Rowan described the robust prop as "shattered" after the Bulldogs were unable to compete with rival offers.
"He's shattered, he's not really happy about it but we understand football is a business these days and that's how it goes," Rowan said.
"He thought he'd be a Bulldog for his whole life but it's not to be and as one door closes another one opens.
"It's not that the Bulldogs didn't want him, they would like to have kept him, but in all honesty they've made some decisions on other players."
The Bulldogs gave Asotasi permission to negotiate with rival clubs until June 28 with the Kiwi forward meeting with Souths co-owner Russell Crowe, Roosters coach Ricky Stuart and Tigers coach Tim Sheens.
In other signing news yesterday, Souths fullback David Peachey has re-signed for one more year with the Rabbitohs.

Brisbane winger Leon Bott was granted an immediate release from the Broncos and has joined the Sharks - he will play Premier League this weekend.
Dragons boom back rower Ben Creagh has signed for another three years with the club, the Cowboys re-signed Jacob Lillyman for two and Storm centre Jake Webster has joined the Gold Coast for next season.
