Sio Siua Taukeiaho

Sio Siua Taukeiaho 2011 5

Does any one know what's happened to him? Loved arching him in the NYC side and he's not been around the last couple of games.

Good prospect IMO.

It was his ankle and it went with a bang, I"m guessing double digit weeks.

Former Vodafone Junior Warrior Sio Siua Taukeiaho is set to make his NRL debut while Dominique Peyroux will start in the centres in the Vodafone Warriors’ last regular season clash against St George Illawarra at WIN Stadium in Wollongong today (3.00pm kick-off local time; 5.00pm NZT).

The 21-year-old Otara Scorpions junior, originally named on a six-man bench earlier this week, joins Ben Matulino, Jacob Lillyman and Feleti Mateo on the interchange.

He’s in line to become Vodafone Warrior No 184 should he take the field while Peyroux, who has made 11 interchange appearances this year, will make his first start for the club. He comes into the side in the centres with the experienced Jerome Ropati (hamstring) and Dane Nielsen (ankle) ruled out. They travelled to Wollongong with the side but have failed to fully recover.

Ropati, named on the right wing, will again be replaced by rookie Ngani Laumape.

The match has special significance for veteran prop Jacob Lillyman, who today becomes the 22nd player to appear in 100 NRL matches for the Vodafone Warriors after beginning his NRL career with 62 appearances for the Cowboys from 2003-2008. Last year young front rowers Ben Matulino and Russell Packer also reached the 100-game mark.

Lillyman has regularly operated in tandem with Matulino from the interchange since being converted into a full-time prop.

Lillyman will mark his achievement in a match of vital significance to the Vodafone Warriors. They make the trip to Wollongong sitting in 10th spot on the table, one of three teams on 26 and eyeing a chance of making the finals in the very last round of the season.

With their record 50-16 rout of Canberra last Saturday night, they climbed into the top eight for the first time this season but held eighth spot for less than 24 hours before results on Sunday pushed them out of the top half of the competition.

The final round starts with four teams vying for the last two spots in the top eight – Newcastle on 27 followed by North Queensland, Gold Coast and the Vodafone Warriors on 26 while Penrith and Canberra are on 24.

To remain in contention the Vodafone Warriors will have to create history with their first win against the Dragons at WIN Stadium following a run of nine straight losses since St George Illawarra entered the competition in 1999. The club’s only success at the ground was against the Illawarra Steelers in 1996.

Should they achieve a breakthrough win, the Vodafone Warriors would then have to rely on the outcome of the two matches following theirs tonight when the Melbourne Storm host the Titans (7.30 NZT) and the Cowboys meet Wests Tigers in Townsville (9.30 NZT). Depending on the results in those matches, the contest between Newcastle and Parramatta tomorrow could also come into play in determining whether the Vodafone Warriors make the finals.

He looks a beast, but you'd see him in the Vulcans a bit on TV in 2013 and he was nothing to get very excited about... This should be the new warriors recruitment strategy, release all your youngsters to the wilds of other NRL clubs, then resign them on the homecoming ticket once they become x5 times better.

He suffered from a lot of knee ACL type injuries and never really got to full health since playing U20 for us. I always liked his game. Good player who put in a shit load of effort. If people knew what he went through to come back from his injuries they would marvel at him. The amount of extras he put in to get back was impressive.

He was released by Matt Elliott who told him that he wouldnt be needed here anymore. After he made his debut in Round 26 2013 against the Dragons he was told by Elliott that he'd changed his mind and wanted him to stay. By then it was too late as he had already signed for the Roosters.

He'll only get better and better...

Seen on other forums the Roosters fans are pretty big on him. Really rubs it in that he left us he has been good for the Roosters and played really well again tonight. Workrate and some physical stuff in his game. Would add a lot to our timid team.

Hope Hurrell isn't injured. Hate to have another centre out injured with Laumape currently out. Stocks would be pretty low.

After seeing what the Rooster have done with Taukeiaho can't wait to see what Abraham papalii turns out like .

And this is where the constant changing of coaches kills clubs for long periods of time.

Hopefully he isn't too down on the club and comes home at some point.

Sometimes getting out of your comfort zone is the best way to find yourself. We've got loads of talent in Auckland but its very comfy for these guys here. At the Aussie clubs they have to deliver or its a cold and lonely time over there. Hence the massive increase in performance from the ones with real talent that we let go.

I don't think we have been letting the players go for the right reasons, but keeping them, with our current club culture, would see them going nowhere with their footy...

Sio Siua Taukeiaho making most of NRL shot with the Roosters after escaping his tough childhood
JAMES HOOPER

WITH a nickname like TKO, it should come as no surprise Sio Siua Taukeiaho was unearthed out of the school of hard knocks in south Auckland.

Born and raised in Otara, it’s the same tough neighbourhood where NRL stars Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Manu Vatuvei and Frank-Paul Nu’uausala grew up.

Initially, Taukeiaho began his football journey playing in the outside backs in rugby union and only turned to league at 18.

But before finding football as his salvation, TKO quit playing sport to entertain a life of gangs and crime in New Zealand.

As the Roosters prepare to meet Newcastle at Hunter Stadium today, TKO told The Sunday Telegraph how he almost missed his calling as an NRL player.

“It’s a bit of a ghetto place, Otara. It’s home so I’ll always have a soft spot for it, but it’s easy to find trouble,” he said.

“I wasn’t on the right track to begin with, hanging around with the wrong crowd and doing a lot of stupid stuff on the side.

“I never did any time inside but I was in trouble with the police quite a bit. My parents didn’t like what I was doing. They threatened to send me to Tonga plenty of times to try to set me straight.

“Luckily, eventually I started to see all the sacrifices my parents were making. They were working night shift, working hard to put food on the table. It wasn’t fair what I was doing to them.”

The making of Taukeiaho as an NRL player was his transition to the Sydney Roosters, with recruitment guru Peter O’Sullivan identifying his raw talent in the under-20s at the Warriors.

Growing up in NZ, where rugby union is a religion, TKO modelled his game on the power and skill of All Blacks Tana Umaga and Christian Cullen.

But two broken legs and the temptation to slip back into old habits meant the Warriors opted to cut him loose.

Initially, his move to Sydney was a challenge, with the Roosters forward cutting his teeth in the NSW Cup for Newtown all of last season.

“He’s had to work for everything he’s earned in life, that’s why the consistency is there now for Siua,” Roosters coach Trent Robinson said.

Now living in Kingsgrove with his father and three younger sisters who are still at school, Taukeiaho earned a two-year extension with the Roosters and wants to repay his family by one day buying them a house.

I've said on this thread a few times it's more getting in with the wrong crowd. Hell myself and a number of mates could say this exact same thing about my home town. This would be a lot of kids around New Zealand with quotes like this who have turned their life around.

Instead of a debate of 5 pages about South Auckland Taukeiaho should be congratulated for going out of his comfort zone and making something of himself. Yes as a Warriors supporter he is exactly what we need and it's a shame he is going gang busters over there.
