if he doesn't end up coming I will admit it I will be bummed big time... we are finally signing a big name player at the top of his game rather than at the end of it, and a genuine game breaker and marquee player... kinda everything I'd hoped Mateo was gonna be

I think a few around here have rated Tomkins far too highly and set themselves up, he ain't no Slater or Inglis yet, outstanding Super league player for sure and If he helps the Poms win a world cup you might be able to put him right up there, but beside a few decent moments in test football he is yet to prove himself worthy of the amount of adulation he has been getting, against the big guns in October we will shall see..
I have never thought the NRL would allow it without us letting go of a few more first graders and probably a few more fringe firsters, You can't have basically 2 first grade teams unless your the Sharks and with J'Ro and Friend staying and Laumape now a first grader I think the writing was on the wall, it's a numbers game to make the Cap work.

Mateo has been restricted by game plan, he was on top of his game when he had more of a roving loose forward role, now he is restricted to basically a 10 metre wide channel on the field which makes it far too easy for defences to read, rendering him ineffective against the good defences.

There's no gloomy writing on the wall; Tomkins will be here in 2014.
Has he been misquoted by yet another journo? not long ago sources were saying he had signed but it was being looked over by the NRL, now he is insisting he hasn't signed, which is far different from his " I don't want to talk about it/no comment" a week ago.
Interestingly on his new mouth guard deal, it was unveiled at Saracens.

full segeway here, but I was watching an old UFC fight, number 3 I think and they were talking about the mouth-guards not being in the mouth to protect the teeth but actually to protect the skin on the hand from being pierced by the teeth. then they made a comment about more bugs in the average humans mouth than the average dogs. Makes you wonder how anyone survives kissing doesn't it.
Most common use for mouthguards isn't so much for tooth protection, but to stop cuts to the inside of the mouth. Their most valuable use is actually in stopping the frequent mild concussions from a contact sport as they can help keep the lower jaw in place and stop 'jaw-wobble' pinching a nerve that leads up to the temple, which causes a lot of knockouts or wooziness from a knock to the chin.

The skin on the hand is protected by those things called gloves, which weren't mandatory in the UFC till around UFC6, although they were used by the occasional fighter before then (including proper boxing gloves in UFC1)

I was talking to a mate of mine on Saturday who lives in Wigan and is a mad Wigan supporter he told me that it all about respect for the Wigan fans that it has not been announced and won't be until after the world cup.
He also said a couple of our guys were going over there, already signed done deal.
But as others have said I will believe it when I see it.

In fairness though Kittwazzer, I've always suspect Tomkins agency has told him to say he'd love to do pretty much anything asked.

Also the headline of "Tomkins keen to switch codes in time for 2015 World Cup" is typically of the telegraph highly misleading. The crux of the article is this (in case anyone can't be bothered reading the whole thine

"Asked if a switch of codes might come in time for him to be considered for the 2015 World Cup in England, Tomkins said: “It would be nice. I would never say never if the opportunity came up."

This is a newspaper that tries desperately to put league across as a lesser sport to union whenever it can.

If I bet money, it would still be on him coming to you guys.

This what I read-
The 24-year-old full-back, the reigning Super League’s Man of Steel, insisted on Wednesday however that he had not signed a contract to join the Auckland-based franchise.
also this week, Sam Tomkins has signed a two-year deal to promote a mouth guard in the United Kingdom and 2 years is what he has left on his Wigan contract..coincidence I think not..
The mouth guard deal is a non starter for mine, Electronic and televised media being what it is.......I ask you to consider....what would sell more mouth guards.....an ESL exclusive promo / set of adds or a Tomkins wears Mouth guard X to protect him in the ( bullshit yawn NRL hardest competition in the world ) see my drift ?

I'm not saying your read of the article is any less right than mine of the article because it is all smoke and Mirrors with the top footy $$$$ players media interviews.

As for the Sam has not signed with the Warriors......not sure why that quote even has any relevance since that's been in keeping with the specific elements of his contractual arrangement with Wigan from the day this started....if you look back to the early pages of this thread you'll see zillions of like quotes From Tomkins.

As for the retention of current players amounting to no Tomkins........for mine that validates that the Tomkins anxiety re the cap and over thinking the cap management by Bell and Scurrah will be proved miss placed.

Lets see after the World cup one of us will be right and I know you won't be pissy about if it's you Omg.....I make the same commitment not to be an egg about it if I'm right :p

I suspect you won't have to wait until after the world cup. As soon as Wigan are out of the play offs you'll know.

Sadly with O'Loughlin out I suspect you might not have to wait too much more (3 weeks)!

By three weeks are you saying that the Superleague finals start in three weeks time or that's when Wigan will be facing someone tough in the finals series ?[DOUBLEPOST=1378385979][/DOUBLEPOST]Btw RidingPie .......have you heard of the two young leeds fellahs who we signed ? Baldwinson and Tonks ? ( not expecting a run down Just curious wether the names even sound familiar at all ).

Finals start next week and even if we lose in week 1 we'll still be in for week 2 because we're in the top 4. Assuming we go out on the second or third round. So really that should be 3 or 4 weeks.

The only name that rings a bell from those two is Tonks, and I didn't think he pulled up any trees (if its the same one).

Interesting. Those two leeds lads were touted as the up and coming top of the pile Junior forwards in the ESL.

The general consensus is that in the least it will be interesting to see how they adapt to the reserve grade and Juniors comps.

The greater part of it probably is that they will without doubt bring a different energy to the Mix and will probably come here with a point to prove

I suppose another factor in delaying the announcement might be the finer details of any players NZ are sending to Wigan, if any. As an example if it is Locke an enhanced medical at the end of the season might be on the table (that is not meant to start rumours, just a whatif). All manner of things can come into play, Visa etc. A Warriors player with a Tongan passport with a NZ residency Visa. How would that work for a Work Visa in Britain, I don't know myself but there have been instances of Union players being refused, or delayed Visas. Maybe one day we will have clear evidence rather than long range, obscured grainy film of Sam 'Bigfoot' Tomkins

By the end of next week? We already have people "in the know" telling us it was a done deal weeks ago. Personally I don't care when it was signed just that it happens.
