The Benji Marshall thing and the use of the bench has a. Lot of fans disgruntled.

I am going to stick with supporting Kearney, no coach is perfect, I might not agree with all the decisions, but I still recon he has made the Kiwis mean something worth following, win lose or draw, they play with some pride now.

That will do me.

with the talent on offer for the kiwis Kermit the frog could coach them and get results ,a good coach must be able to accept when he has stuffed up and the exclusion of marshall is a biggie to me I agree with building depth and experience and he has done well in these areas but let by gones be by gones and play the man.

Is it a big enough problem in your mind to want Kearney out ?

I've been reading some fired up fan posts on the other forum, for some Kearney has gone too far.....or not far enough if you no wot I mean...

I think we need to stick with Kearney till the next world cup. I'm sure that's his major goal and he's building towards that...

Kearney will keep his job even if we lose 3-0 but he will be on thin ice again if that happens. Bromwich should've been capitain & with all the injuries in halfs benji should have been picked.

This. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for this series, since he's clearly trying to build depth. I REALLY wish he wouldn't use Hiku as a half though. The guy is just not very good at chiming in on complex attacking plays

Sack him IMO, but If he can take ownership of his fuck up, I might change my mind, but I want to hear the sentence" I made a mistake I should have taken Benji and Te Maire.
At the moment he looks like the same fool that got deservedly sacked from the Eels.

I think Kearney will keep his job either way.

However, personally - I think if we lose the series (looking pretty likely) - he should be sacked.

My rationale? The world cup is 2 years away, plenty of time for another coach to get them ready. Hell, even Aus are replacing their coach at the moment 2 years out. Secondly, the coach has to make big calls, putting the side first. Kearney has made big calls - leaving Marshall at home, not being honest with the fans as to why Marshall has been left at home etc etc. I could cope with Benji being left out, but I wanted (and still want) to hear Kearney say it publicly and honestly.

Biggest reason: it's a Kiwis tour of England. It's not a NZ A side. Play your best damn team. Treat the jersey with respect and pay tribute to the heritage of the black and white.

Of course - that's if we lose the series... For all I know, the kiwis might do a 180 this week and flog England... That doesn't change my stance on the absence of Marshall - I want to hear Kearney say it publicly the real reason why he's been left out...

I don't agree with the Kearney must tell us why belief. What if the reason is because it's something that would embarrass Benji rather than Kearney being pig headed. Besides what difference would it make if he can't work with him, he can't work with him. Plus as the person in charge of the team the only people he has to answer too is his employers and I'm sure that if they asked they would have been told. Obviously I want the Kiwis to win but some of you seem to forget that the previous two games were only just won by the Kiwis and the WC especially was only due to a stunning run by SJ. We haven't rolled the Poms easily for years I don't know why you think we should this year.

Whether people like the fact that we are building for the future is irrelevant. The fact is we are. Get over it. The Kiwis arent the All Blacks. We dont have an endless production belt churning out suitable replacements in every position known. We're talking league here. The perennial bridesmaid to the National sport.

Ask yourself. Will Benji Marshall still be in the picture in 2017 when the next World Cup comes around? Should worse come to worse and neither Shaun Johnson or Keiran Foran be available will we have suitable replacements prepared enough to make a fist of the job?

What would the majority prefer? A Test series win on Pommy soil now or to win the World Cup title in a couple years time?

Another thing that interests me is that if we do get rid of Mooks who do people suggest as a genuine replacement? Not a dream fantasy replacement like Wayne Bennett but a GENUINE replacement?

Lump it. Steve Kearney will be the Kiwis coach for a wee while yet...

Tim Sheens
Unsure if your serious, especially as Sheens has just quit the Aussie job to go to England, besides he can't even coach a team good enough to beat a Kearney coached team.:D

It is easy to forget that the Poms are always hard to beat at home, and easy to beat in NZ and Australia. The Aussies have had some tough times over there as well.
SJ was the difference the last time we beat them over there, and that was in the final minute
.Sure Kearney seems not to have told the truth about Benji, but something happened on that last tour when he went for experience (including SBW) and the tour did not go well so he probably felt he had nothing to lose by leaving them at home.
Also remember that the Kiwis were all over the Poms until that 12 point try. It seemed to lift the Poms intensity and for some reason, maybe match fitness the Kiwis could not match them.
If I were the Poms I wouldn't be overconfident based on that performance, but if the Kiwis don't show more starch as the games go on that will be a sad sign for the series.

Well said, Surfin! Its very easy for folks to forget and assume cos we've had a good run that we just cruise from here.
Steve Kearney is paid to do a job and he's done pretty well so far. Right now his useable stocks are limited for reasons he knows about and others he cannot control.
At some stage the powers that be will decide whether he has delivered.
I don't agree with all his calls that's for sure but I'm sure he would not agree with some of mine.
I'm behind the boys for a win this weekend, and a great finish to the tour.

More good points Bruce. So easy to knock the outcome. That 12 point try and the style of reffing (irrespective of the calls) was massive in terms of momentum. This weekend the effort and determination on display will reveal all. Hopefully a good 10m line, quick PTBs and common standards for both teams according to the rules (as in: standing on your two feet and playing the ball is not the same as standing on your two feet and playing the ball after a short break ...duh??

Cant talk for the majority but i would like a win now and a win then.

Taking the best team on the day to me makes sense. an international test is not the place to be training players to play out of position.

If there are better players available then they should have the spot. Thats how you get the job done and stop any bullshit with people thinking their entitled to the position. Egos be damned and that includes the coach. Benji sure aint the same player from a few years back and the coach can acknowledge that. I dont care that he may not be there in 2 years.

Alternative coach to Kearny, well there's Ivan...

The point about it being difficult to win in England is solid.

The WC Semi was mentioned for good reason, England were dominant in that match.

SJ was put under a lot of pressure, England are good at targeting key players.

Apart from some SJ brilliance in the 79th minute, his game was poor (some really rubbish kicking from pressure applied by them).

SBW was out played by Sam Burgers and Ben Westwood, again it took desperation from Williams late in the game to get us within striking distance.

One of our Try's in that same Intense battle relied on a miracle hail Mary play from Dean Whare (the out of bounds behind the back pass) otherwise NZ loses that final.

That Whare play was akin to lucky plays the Kangaroos have pulled off to 'unfairly' pip us at the post....*cliche time* .....you make your own luck......thats bullshit in this instance, you could set that play up a hundred times and likely not see that outcome in 99 attempts.....it really was a never seen before freak play.

England would have gone away from that game ( and the Four nations test at Forsythe's Barr) knowing they are a match for Aussie and NZ.....provided they adjust to the Southern Hemisphere style of eighty minute discipline.

That WC test match is one of the greatest played Of all time....a point not missed by English fans ( I read their forums) but sadly overlooked by Kiwi fans who don't know the English game thereby don't rate it at all..or are smarting from the disgrace that is was the WC final. Many Pom fans call that game the best test they have ever seen ( you have to remember they have victories over the kiwis and Kangaroos to compare it to). That game was a truly Titanic struggle, which can only be appreciated if you don't take victory for granted.

I know we were well short of where we should be last weekend in terms of protecting possesion and maintaining discipline.....and so will Kearney.

We therefore have more to improve on than they do (always a good thing).

Kearney will know he can put together a different challenge on Sunday if his players do the basics this time around.

England fell behind after an explosive start by us....but the way they came back and remained clinical for eighty minutes is a measure of a real rugby league team.

For that reason I would love to see this Pom side give the Kangaroos a go over there.....I recon the POM's would beat them too.

There is a reason ESL sides win the World club challenge.....over battle hardened NRL sides.....the main reason is the southern hemisphere sides underestimate them and go in with a half arsed attitude.....lately thats changed....NRL sides go over there and show some pride in the NRL brand and go hard out.

Part of the challenge of winning in England is showing them the respect they are due....fans and players seem to struggle with that concept.....the POM's just take advantage of it.
