Who was your Man of the Match?

I have Shaun Johnson as MOM.

Benry, Mannering, TL and Mateo all played well too.

Ropati needs to retire asap, he is embarrassing himself.

Mannering for me, great all round game.

Johnson was extremely close... he looked to have finally figured out how to control a game on attack.

seems most are there or thereabouts with MOM. I went mannering but could easily have gone for Benry, Shaun Johnson and possibly Packer (not bad for what some call a fat %$#&)

Ropati - great in the vulcans to help the young blood coming through but first grade centre? not anymore, and please dont put him at fullback.

Shaun - Stepped up today, 40-20's, solid kicking game, kicked out when we needed it at the end. Solid defence.

Manu - Had a big game. Cracking stats. 150 + metres run. 1 line break. 1 tackle bust.

Mateo - Actually played well. Serious game from him today. 130 + metres. 2 tackle busts. 1 line break. 26 tackles. 0 missed.

H.M. Mannering - Whenever he steps up we play well. I hope he realises how much we need him to play well. 100 plus metres is good for Simon.

H.M. Leuluai - Wasn't as noticeable as Shaun but still played well. 2 try assists. 1 tackle busts.

retire ropati n tupoo both mud fish for full back next week if lock out laumape in for tupoo
I would assume that with Locke most likely being out, Ropo will most likely keep his spot (unfortunately). There is a serious push for experience at the moment, so Fish will be our only "inexperienced" player picked. Laumape will only be in if 1 of the outside backs is injured.

I would be quite happy to chance our arm. I would like to see Laumape back, Ikahihifo back, Sam Lousi in as soon as he has had a couple of Vulcans games, Neilson back urgently (for Ropo) and Konrad back.

I'm sure that would be considered far too inexperienced, but we need to sort out that mental problem, which I reckon is coming from the "experienced" heads.

Mannering for me, but Benry could be easily. Honorable mentions to Martel and Shaun Johnson.

Good to see Martel step up finally, here's hoping it's a sign of things to come. I don't really want the 'offload king', just someone who's making an impact and looks like he wants to play.

Really unfortunate injury to Little Ted, but I reckon it shows up a problem we have with inadequate fullback cover if something happens to Locke, which is always on the cards given the way he usually plays.

Godinet made a couple of crucial mistakes at the end as fullback. He may have played it before, but looked completely inadequate there. Like Koni, he appeared to be trying too hard to do something great instead of concentrating on doing everything right in a phase of play that required steadiness and control instead of highlight reel footy. Errors resulted, turned over possession, and made the game way closer than it needed to be.

One thing that's taken me by surprise is how I'm becoming less and less impressed with Lowrie - can't see that he offers up anything that any of our other second/back row forwards don't, and seems to be good for at least a penalty a match. He's solid, and that's it really. I'd much rather see us get some big loose unit who's going to make the opposition wishing they'd pulled a sickie.

Manu went much better than I expected - a few moments that needed to be better thought out, but good in general play. Needs to go to ground to avoid being pushed over the sideline, and still needs to work on tackling near our own line... he held off Idris nicely to stop the pass to the wing, then just stood by while Jamal barged over.

I was tempted to write that this was a much improved performance from us, but really it wasn't - we did pretty much everything we've been doing since round 2, with the only difference being that we did it properly. Same approach, same plan, but with the added bonus of having that plan carried out correctly (heart in mouth, last minute fuckups aside).

This made me really happy, as it shows that the coach has had the players basically implementing the same plan all year, and they've steadily picked up on it, with the result that only mistakes will keep us out of matches now. I'm even tempted to put the mockers on the team and say we're going to get on a roll now.

Interesting comments from Elliot in the Press Conference.

When asked about who will cover for Locke, he said he wasn't too sure but probably Carlos or "Fishy-arsy" (how ME said it). Perhaps I'm over-reading it, but its seems odd he would put Carlos first ahead of Fish.

Also, I may be mistaken here, but I'm sure a reporter asked "How is Jerome", to which Elliot replied "Sore, really sore", then they talked about Rapira and his injury. I struggled to hear the reporter (he may be talking about someone else, but it sounded like he said Jerome), so may have been mistaken about the question - so someone hopefully can correct me or agree with me. If the question was about Jerome, perhaps this is a way for him to step aside gracefully?

ME would not be draw on talk of any negative feelings from that game. I would like to hear him admit the players have some head issues they need to deal with (and are dealing with).

It might have also been nice for him to continue his attack on the refs by pointing out the blatant pass on the last try. He should be highlighting the worst ref offences every week, just to keep them on their toes. Not that it would have helped on that try, but I would like to see the "Captain's challenge" introduced into first grade next year.

did anyone else notice the very late hit by Greg Bird on Johnson. On the movement after that he ran at Johnson again, and Johnson was still wobbly from the first, he threw a lose pass and we ended up losing the ball. The refs and the commentators all missed it. I gave Johnson my MOM for getting up after that hit and playing the way he did. We should have had a penalty from the first and on birds dirty play later he would have been sent

I'm very concerned by the refs inability to overrule themselves on blatantly wrong calls. This deliberately ignoring the available technology really gets to me. If a play has yet to happen and the replay goes on the screen and its blatent that a call has been given that is wrong then they should reverse the decision. In all honestly I have actually seen this happen a few times now (the 40/20 is an obvious example) but recently its like they are making a point against doing it and its costing us.[DOUBLEPOST=1367735656][/DOUBLEPOST]Oh and that last flop onto Manu's chest at the end before the titans ran in seemed to have reinjured Manu, or did I read that wrong?

Bit of a sidenote, but I noticed in the U20s that a ref managed to manipulate a play so he didn't have to go to a Captain's Challenge. He called something (the call and the player concerned slips my mind right now, but think it was a Warriors strip) and when he realized he was going to get a challenge, he pinged us for mouthing off. When the challenge came, he said it couldn't happen because he had marched them for back-chat.
