I like some of your thoughts there Teeps4Shore... For me Jazz should never start a game and always come off the bench...
Wait... we have one of these? However it is the right decision, to play Berry next to a specialist defensive Winger...
Both need to step up and somehow manufacture a kicking game for us. Nobody’s really mentioned it but an improvement in our game from last week was Chad’s kicking in general play and our kick chase. Can‘t over emphasise the importance of that against a side that can grind like the Sharks.Kodi has to step up, SO'S to play a link role.
I cant wait for Sean O'Sullivan plodding hit up runs inside the other teams 20m
Do we have a specialist defensive Winger you ask?Wait... we have one of these?![]()
Jazz has become pretty valuable i think. Theres been a few games when the opposition is getting on top of us and hes the only one who seems to stop the bleeding. Hes become a good link to the backs aswel. The thing that let him down was the dumb penalties wich he dont seem to be doing as much. Osulivan seems to be the one doing these now days.Let's not have a forum blow out if we lose which we well could. We have Sean O'Sullivan in the halves and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck on the wing. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck in a game three rounds ago on wing leaked in 3 tries by jamming in twenty or even thirty metres on some plays leaving his opponent wing to basically stroll over the line. So be ready for a loss just as much as a win. No let's draw and quarter Brown. Let's sack Brown. We will be in this match. We will be competitive. It will be close. But could go either way.
In terms of optimism though: with the removal of Kosi and the insertion of Lodge I feel our line up has the "look" and "strength" to it that I usually feel when viewing our opposition and wondering how we will win before the game. Our back line looks much better this week and our forwards with two good starting props looks effective for the first time I can remember. There is a place for a small mobile tackle bot like Jazz in a power pack like that. Previously there has been no point in having Jazz as his small frame was a liability for our pack mix. Now, hopefully, with dudes like Kane Evans and other giants out there his small frame will pose different questions and actually mentally tire our tacklers as they have to concentrate in a different way to tackle him. Can't wait for the game.
The later was really my point, we've had a tendency to manufacture and tinker with players in various positions at the club for a while now. You may be playing left side edge backrower this week and right side edge backrower bringing impact off the bench next week or even a role in the middle. Just an example using Ben Murdoch-Masila who I thought had a good beginning of the season for us but has been impacted negatively by being moved around excessively imo. You could apply this to a number of our players.Do we have a specialist defensive Winger you ask?
I take it this is rhetorical? you do not rate Dallin Watene-Zelezniak as a specialist on the wing? That would be fair given his form slump for years now at the Bulldogs.
Or are you saying he is like Roger, a fullback who has had to make way for another fullback and is a winger by default? Another fair argument if that is where your question is coming from....it is up for debate.
However, to my mind, after watching Dallin Watene-Zelezniak in one game, he is every part the specialist winger off the ball, his edge was tight, completely solid.
The problem I see this week though, is playing him with a Rookie center in Berry.
Should go ok....but these constant changes should be taken into consideration.
The plays they run where jazz is first receiver off the ruck with a foward inside and outside of him and a backdoor option to a half has looked real dangerous all season i dont know why they dont run it more often!Jazz has become pretty valuable i think. Theres been a few games when the opposition is getting on top of us and hes the only one who seems to stop the bleeding. Hes become a good link to the backs aswel. Fortunately our front line Props are right up there for tackle breaks/offloads and general play passing making them a bit more dynamic - Woods & Tolman are very much straight up and down Props in that regard.I was interested to learn our best Prop in terms of Metres Per Carry is Addin Fonua-Blake & he ranks 18th amongst all Props. Ben Murdoch-Masila is 23rd (games played on the edge probably increase this), Evan 40th, Bunty 45th, Jazz 55th, Lodge is 58th, LAM 73rd, Tohu Harris is 74th & Jamayne Tounua-Brown 77th out of 78 players who have played Prop.
Luckily, apart from Hamlin-Uele at 8th, Cronulla have no players in the top 40
