Who are our up and coming star back rowers?
There are no shortage of carthorses... what about the thoroughbreds?

Likely replacements:
Thomas Leuluai > James Maloney
Dane Nielsen > Ben Henry
Ben Henry > Lewis Brown
.....? > Ukuma Ta'ai (minimal bench play, Sam Lousi can likely take his spot)
.....? > Micheal Luck (ok he hasn't been playing anyway, so maybe a rookie can take his place in the wider squad)

I'd consider these players injury prone:
Jerome Ropati (our only true utility and only experienced centre cover, save for Simon Mannering, who is needed in the pack)
Manu Vatuvei
Sam Rapira
Steve Rapira
Kevin Locke (Fish hasn't looked that great in his NRL appearances this season, so not sure what our options are here)

Looks to me like we need to sign an experienced utility back and an experienced second rower. Possibly also a young prop.

Don't forget about a few up-and-coming Toyota Cup players. We usually retain a few of them at the end of each season. Most of them will train with the first-grade squad and end up playing in the NSW Cup though. Anybody know which players aren't eligible to play in the Toyota Cup next year?

I'd personally cut Collier and Penehe and retain the rest (not including Ta'ai, who it seems is going?). Unless Omar is definitely gone, then I guess I'd keep Collier for wing cover - but I don't really see him playing first grade.

I agree...I hope we resign Omar.$$ shouldnt be a issue surely

To be honest, he'd only be going from the Vulcans to another NSW/QLD Cup team if he did move somewhere else. He wouldn't be a first choice winger/fullback at any club, would he? I think he should stay, for his career. With Manu more than likely going to be injured at sometime next season, it would be between him, Fisiiahi, Collier or one of the non-contracted Vulcans players (Peace, etc.), for the wing spot. From that list, he'd be first equal with Fisiiahi, yeah? I guess there is always the option of moving Hurrell to the wing, but I don't think that is really a wise idea due to his lack of aerial skills.

think this willrussel a few feathers but Omar is overated yea hes fast but he gets tries from dummy half 1/2 a meter from the try line won't do that in NSW cup or first grade.

I've actually wondered if he would make the next step up, the guy is obviously fast and has a great fend and an ok passing game but for me at the moment he is definately better suited to be a first grade winger rather than FB. Mind you when he moved to FB he made the transition pretty well. All things being equal next year Nobby gets through the season unscathed and the question doesn't need to be asked as to covers for him.

As a fullback, i completely agree with you, however i do think he would make a good center or a great running stand-off with a good support game.

Being a a prolific tryscorer is so overated these days....fark me wake up.Doesnt matter how and where you score them from.

being able to read a game, gettin youself in positions to take that last pass, anticipation and instincts to know where space is on the field and the knack for the try line are all attributes you dont take for granted

Most of the try scoring was last year, unfortunately injuries have put a big fullstop on this year for him so far. Fish is also a good example that shows not everyone rates try scoring as important, at least thats the feeling I get from reading some of the posts on here.

Despite losing 3 second rowers, we still have some depth there. Sam lousi, the Palavi Bros and Ikahihifo. Jerome can provide centre cover as can Henry, we have depth in the halves too. I think our only concern is the wing. We need to buy a cheap, fringe winger for depth, someone like Sandor Earl, Dom Peyroux, Issac Gordon etc. Wouldnt cost much and could cover injury or manus move to the back row.
