I understand where you are coming from but personally I enjoy reading Inruin's, Iago's and SJ7's posts. I'd rather it was a setting we can choose individually instead of forcing everyone to have them come up or not though.

Hi mate, goto the profile pages for each person's entire activity you dont want to see on this site. On the top right there is a 'Ignore' button. Click on it ;)

I think that the Recent Threads area hould be expanded to show recents discussions in all forums.

Actually, ignore that - I have just discovered the What's New area (and I like it the way it is!)

over the coming days, i will incorporate an option where users can select which forums threads they want to appear in the 'whats new' section. This will be a personal setting controlled by the user to ensure members can see exactly what they do/do not want.

No that I have a say, but I think Retardoland is getting a little overused. There are a massive amount of Retardoland threads appearing constantly, and some seem to enjoy getting in there, while others are put in there unfairly. There are some threads that are free to meander off an a random tangent while others have posts dismissed from the conversation too quickly.

Maybe a little leaway should be given to allow the topic to return itself to the correct track before posts get ripped out. It is one thing I have found strange on this site and the last, the way some excessive administration and individual opinion by admins can control a topic.

I'm not trying to be ignorant or antagonistic with this comment, but I just feel that a site where adults can come and discuss things should be a little less regimental and defined.

Perhaps VOT and VWFF were a little far the other way, but I think there is a middle-ground that could be somewhat better than the current style.

Well it's anything but individual opinion by admins. We're totally unashamed of our desire to keep standards up, but it's got nothing to do with our individual views on warriors issues, it's the overall quality of conversation and debate.
If there's one thing we've learned, it's that shit rapidly breeds shit. If we dont get on top of it, we will be faced with 10 crappy spam threads per day and a complete mess. Some people just want to post for the sake of it, but these forums arent just a place for any keyboard hero to come on and vent in any manner. It's also a resource. We want to attract people like casual fans and journos and give them interesting and original stuff to read, not pages of schoolkid level spam when they come here for their news and views. And we hope that by preserving standards, we will also encourage people to put more thought into their posts when they do make them. In that case everyone's a winner.

To ignore certain forums from flooding the 'Whats New' view, simply click on this link and select the forums you want to remove from the view.

For example, if you do not want retardoland threads appearing in your 'Whats New' view, select that forum and press save.

First of all, there is not a massive amount relative to the traffic on here daily. Each new 'thread' in retardoland constitutes a single post (or perhaps 2-3) from a thread. Every single post you read in there has come from the rugby league section on this forum. The statuses, chat and every other section/sub-section are completely left alone, that's the trade off. We in no way want to discourage people coming on for a chat, or to pass the time...and we've provided those avenues for that. Go nuts.

Secondly, as Legoman has said above, and in reponse to your comparisons with prior forums - we're not trying to be like prior forums. There are many people who come here for their daily/weekly/monthly Warriors fix. There are a very large number who never post, there are a large number that don't even sign in. There are people out there that solely view the 4 'promoted' threads on the front page. They may not post, but we're no less interested in making sure they don't have to scroll through pages and pages of spam. We created this place with the intention of facilitating robust NRL and Warriors talk, and we'll continue to strive toward that goal. We can't control the content that gets posted, but we can decide whether or not we think it 'adds' to a discussion.

What you must also bear in mind that you will usually see retardoland posts completely out of context. Much of the stuff in there looks harmless, but it's often the same stuff being repeated over and over. The same 'jokes' being repeated over and over. The same arguments between the same people being repeated in different threads. It gets very tiring for the majority of people on here (signed in or not). As said above, shit rapidly breeds shit, and we remove harmless stuff before it gets added to another 5-10 times and suddenly we have to scroll through a page or 2 to get back to league talk.

If it seems like some threads get less attention at times, it's probably because we've lost all hope for it, or we're simply busy working (we all have full-time jobs). However, as always, we're happy to discuss anything that gets removed. Have a read through a couple of threads on here (namely the Inu and Manu threads, with over 1,000 posts between them), then have a look at the paltry 260 odd posts in the whole of retardoland. If you're still convinced we're over overzealous, more than happy to discuss it some more.

As a neutral in this discussion, (as I'm neither getting many of my posts sent to Retardoland, and I'm also not sending any there as I'm not a moderator), I think the others have largely covered it. Quality control is a huge issue in any online forum, and it's obviously a fine balance at times. It doesn't take much to see a thread derailed to the point of personal attacks.

You referred to NZWF as "a site where adults can come and discuss things", which I think is accurate - but it requires adults to act their age. I've seen people whose user accounts claim they're in their 20s, 30s, 40s, acting like 6 year olds arguing over who should get to play with a toy. Retardoland, a time out of sorts, is designed to discourage that sort of behaviour.

The main thing I wanted to say in reply to your post, though, is that one of the great things about this particular forum is that you can approach the admins just as you have and not get power tripped. In essence, I'm grateful that you feel comfortable enough to approach the powers that be to suggest some form of change.

It is my firmly held belief that all of us, (moderators, regular users, and myself especially), can improve and we can do stuff better, so having someone come along and question the way things are done is always a healthy thing.

Just one small thing to add,if you do put a thread or post in retardoland, can you please just put in there with out the headline banner, because it makes people feel inadequate or small and probably less likely to post there thoughts, just something to think about..

Noted koolkat, I see how it can come across that way and yes we can definitely do that for you. We generally do that to try add an explanation combined with a bit of humour, because as we've said before, it's not meant as a punishment or slap on the wrist.

As someone who is often sent to retardoland I think most of the posts deserves to be there. (I say "most" because I haven't actually read all of them, committing fallacies, yadayada.)
All of my posts in there deserve it anyway.

From what i've seen, the posts there usually fall under these catergories.

1. Illegible
2. Irrelevant to the title/original topic. Though they usually let you finish before they send it off
3. excessive swearing
4. posts/discussions deemed to have no substance

I've only broke rule 2 & 4... 30 times.

I personally find the titles funny-ish, they'd make me smirk if I know the inside joke and I haven't been offended... yet. But I'd be willing to sacrifice my almost daily smirk if people are feeling apprehensive. :)

We do cover a hell of a lot though. Between the two of us and Rizzah/Spence, we would look at 90%+ of the forum content on a daily basis. Me and you are in constant communication re: posts and forum issues. So are fas as being "wired in" and engaged, i think we're doing pretty well.

I would challenge anyone to say that the forum would be better off, if the content now in Retardoland was restored. There should be no suggestion that the forum is Nazi, but everything posted has a proper home - that's why we have the chat, statuses and social forums. Retardoland was an initiative designed to keep full transparency, rather than just deleting people's posts and having everyone (including other mods/admins) flying blind.

I like put myself in the shoes of a random reasonably educated fan and ask "would i want to log in and see that post/thread". That's an example of why we police promoted threads more tightly. Toiletduck's dad for example, logs on and exclusively looks at the promoted threads for his news and views. They are the "face of the site" and we like to keep that face looking good.

I agree wholeheartedly with your approach to the management of the site.

However, there should possibly be a backdoor for us retards who want to see everything new accross all fields (blogs, chat, statuses, and recent threads - including all the old shite you dont want on the front page?)

Dont get me wrong, i like circle jerking as much as the next man. But have to hold back for the good of the forum.

Expanding the chat history from 25 to say 50 posts might help. Maybe make 10 statuses visible instead of the current 8?

I find myself constantly switching back and forth between "What's New" and the forums home page to see if I've missed anything.
