Changes I would make:

Laumape in for Tupou
Hurrell in for Tuimavave
Lillyman to Lock - Lowrie to bench
Matagi in for Taylor

Gives us more size and try scoring ability in my opinion.

TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT: Vodafone Warriors v Panthers

Vodafone Warriors back rower Feleti Mateo will reach the NRL’s 150-game milestone when he faces Penrith in Saturday night’s 10th-round clash at Centrebet Stadium (7.30pm kick-off local time; 9.30pm kick-off NZT).

It will also be the 29-year-old’s 62nd consecutive game since joining the Vodafone Warriors, the only player in the squad who has appeared in every match since the start of the 2011 season.

He has today been confirmed in a line-up showing just one change from the side that lost 16-24 to the Bulldogs in front of 30,112 spectators in ‘The Capital Clash’ at Westpac Stadium in Wellington last Saturday night (the crowd was a record for a rugby league match in the Capital).

The one exception is Sam Rapira. He was initially selected to start at prop last week but was subsequently ruled out with a hand injury picked up in the eighth-round win against Gold Coast.

In his absence 25-year-old Suaia Matagi became Vodafone Warrior No 181, gaining 32 metres from four carries and making 11 tackles in his 19 minutes on the field against the Bulldogs. Matagi has been included on a five-man bench for the trip to Penrith.

“Suaia looked really comfortable at this level, as we were confident he would do,” said Vodafone Warriors head coach Matthew Elliott.

“He did all we expected of him but now Sam is ready to go again, meaning we’ll have our four experienced front rowers back in harness.

“It’s also going to be a big night for Feleti playing his 150th game in the NRL. It’s a big achievement.”

Consistently the competition’s leading off loader, Mateo made his debut for Parramatta in 2004 before a stint with the London Broncos in the English Super League.

He returned to the Eels, reviving his NRL career in 2006 and going on to make 88 appearances with Parramatta before shifting to Auckland.

With Kevin Locke still out with a back injury, Glen Fisiiahi will again start at fullback on Saturday night. His peers named him the players’ player of the day after his display against the Bulldogs; he scored his fourth career try and also laid on one for winger Manu Vatuvei.

Also retained is Carlos Tuimavave, again starting in the centres with experienced Dane Nielsen (ribs) and Jerome Ropati (hamstring) nursing injuries.

The Vodafone Warriors face a Penrith side sitting two points ahead of them in 12th spot on the ladder after their 12-10 win over 2012 premiers the Melbourne Storm on Sunday night.

There’ll be some familiar faces in the opposition camp this weekend, not just former Vodafone Warriors coach Ivan Cleary and his Mount Smart Stadium assistant David Fairleigh but also ex-Vodafone Warriors players Lewis Brown, Isaac John and Matt Robinson who all featured against the Storm.

When the two teams met at Penrith’s home ground on wet June night last year, Vatuvei scored a double in the Vodafone Warriors’ 30-16 win.

How many times did Carlos drop the ball against the Dogs?

For me as good as Hurrell will one day be he needs to be accountable for his dropping the ball so many times. Carlos and Bill really did nothing wrong last week so don't really deserve to be dropped IMO.

This is probably the only team he could pick given injuries and form.

Laumape was our most impressive back for the start of the season, now he can't crack a spot... Seriously, what's going on?? Inu mark 2.

It's frustrating seeing no/minimal changes to the team when the guys have learnt nothing over the past 5 weeks, and keep making the same mistakes which cause them to lose in the final 20 minuts.

How many times did Carlos come charging onto the ball to try and get us out of our own end and have it thrown a metre behind him like we did to Hurrell in that Storm game?

Carlos had 3 errors, and only made 6 runs in the entire game. Hurrell regularly took 13-15 hit ups a game and only once has he had more than 3 errors (4 against the storm).

ME is selecting players the exact same way that Bluey did !!! I honestly thought he would say enough is enough, heres the changes to be made, prove yourself in the Vulcans and fight your way back into first team. He has already stated that the guys who have came up from the other grades have done the job perfect and is proud of them, Well why doesn't he just pick them rather than 18th man one week then back to the Vulcans next match ! Really running out of patience with ME, at the least change the captaincy which has to be done immediately , this season could be worse than last ?

If Tuimavave can get himself up to speed defensively ( always a big if but Ruben Wiki has had a fairly good strike rate with tackling coaching this year ) then we'd have a nasty combo between him and Vatuvei on attack ( I'm sure that's what they will be training all week with those two ).

It would be good to make the NRL sit up at buy into Elliots vision of a more Uate like Vatuvei......could resurrect Manu's test Career.

Lots of if's and buts , don't know if this is the right time of the year to try it on , but all in all I'm glad we're getting a look at a ball player next to the artist formerly known as beast.

With fear of creating a shite fight.....Elliot is still pretty much ham strung by the injury ward with the depth he has.......

Sam Lousi Foot Indefinite
Sione Lousi Knee Season
Steve Rapira Ear Season
Dane Nielsen Ribs Indefinite
Kevin Locke Back Round 11
Jerome Ropati Hamstring Indefinite

There is some options there.......for some non performers.

he's definitely got a mind trick yoda thing goin on with the positive stroke for folks who aren't playing.
The thing with people like Elliot is that the snake oil can only be sold to the same towns folk once , twice at best....after that it loses traction / fans on grassy knolls will readjust their sights and line up the commander and chief at the Warriors.

We don't know the ins and outs of the Laumape non-selection. I too really rate him (although to me if he is picked it has to be at centre) but am not upset for ME to be cautious with him. How may times do we see younsters burst onto the scene, only for that surprise factor to get worked out by the opposition - remember how much space Shaun Johnson was given to run with the ball when he first arrived? Perhaps ME is just ensuring that when he puts Laumape out, he is putting a well-rounded player with solid foundations.

There is no guarantee that Hurrell will come back from the exposure of his defensive frailties and feet-for-hands, I don't want to see Laumape go through the same fall from grace. Holding him back and drip feeding him in may be the making of him - ME and his team has the inside view of that.

Just got issues with Taylor and Tuimavave in the tem..tuimavave brings nothing in terms of attack and defence wise hes a turnstile. Taylor ..i just cant see wtf ME sees in him...doesnt create anything in attack..doesnt hit the line hard in attack or defence..defencewise hes a 3rd in specialist who shys away from the initial contact, good line speed but 9/10 will miss the target. Laumape or Hurrell should be in the centres specially laumape who has killed at centre when given the chance

Taylor is a master of the charge out of the line and 'just miss' his target for a special aye , there are a whole bunch of NRL players who nearly got wiped off the face of the footy park by Elijah.
