An in-form Latrell is scary for the league.

Good to see our attack come to life and great moments of goal line defence, despite losing Barnett.

One more week till the much needed bye. We needed this win, officially equalling our 2024 total wins.

Demitric, CNK, RTS & Berry was absolutely massive today without looking at the stats - eye test alone.

Some thoughts on the game.

CNK - MOM. He was everywhere again. The guy just does so much of the hard yards and big effort plays.

Barney - man we are going to miss that bloke. I only wish him the best and hope the scan shows a better outcome than it looked. Time for Fish to stand up.

LM - I thought we looked more structured inside their 20. There seemed to be more options for him which would’ve helped, but certainly more fluid than last week. Pompey needs to convert though…

RTS - Roger was a difference maker again I thought.

Can someone dig up some stats on kicking percentages between CHT Pompey and LM? Would be interested to know…

Berry - His kick chase and defensive pressure makes such a big difference. I feel for Ali, but a position is not a given and I hope he works his arse off to try and dethrone Berry or Pompey.

Thought Demi brought a lot of good energy off the bench today. Forced a handover, and had a key role in Berrys try.

Hard to single out anymore as it seemed like a real team effort across the board. They seem committed and supportive of each other throughout the 80.

Thought the reffing was a bit average today. Plenty of forward passes in the lead up to their tries. Lots of late tackle six agains and penalties. He just kept on letting them back in it until the death.

I don’t mind Egan being given a spell, but I just wonder if TMM is the best person for that.

DWZ was better today but still is so hairy out on that wing sometimes. No one else would’ve finished his try like he did today.

That really should’ve been the game to help our PD, but between the ref and some shit conversions is was another +6.

They never make it easy hence our points differential but we find a way to win. So good and never not entertaining.

CNK was great except for that touchline mishap.

RTS I said this in the game thread, he's great on the wing....he doesn't have the top end pace of the best wingers but he has so many other attributes...solid under high ball, great at returns out of our half, high work rate, ability to beat the man with his step and his strength in the tackle.....top notch.

Well done boys, another hard fought win....hope Mitch is ok soon.

Let's be honest. If Latrell doesn't play, this is a 13+ win. Just some freakish play + luck got them back into the game. We were the better side for the majority of the game. But even with all the craziness, this is still a comfortable win if Luke kicks a couple more goals. Not that fussed. After all the frustrations with our attack, we scored 7 tries today and 36 pts. Bring on Cronulla.

seriously, that tightness was managed ... there were some awful calls constantly going against us in the last 20
I'd prefer to point out referee decisions after a win.

It was frustrating in the first half with the amount of times we had them lying around the ruck. The first half we had a dominant tackle and got penalised for holding down. Then Barnett pinged for being off side. The only penalty we got was for a head high something he needs to give. The others were ones he was looking for. Surely they were off side and some point or pushed things a bit in the tackle. We did get them lying in the ruck a lot.

The second half he was quick on the 6 again's when they were on attack. We may push it a bit to get our defence organised but you'd expect it to return when we are applying a lot of pressure.

Ford got done for holding on to the ball player which gave up a 6 again. If that was the level he was looking for, there was an incident later on when we were in their 20 that should have warranted the same.

CHT 63/82 for 76.83%

Pompey 45/62 for 72.5%

Metcalf 44/67 for 65.67%

and for reference
SJ 559/732 for 76.37%

Generally 75% is the accepted level to be considered a 'good' goal kicker.

Elite is approx 80%

El Masri: 81.97%
Thurston: 79.50%
Halligan: 79.31%%

Metcalf is a poor goal kicker, no two ways about it. It's not hurting us quite yet but it will kill us in the finals

Neither are practical.
Crazy how spoiled people get. 3rd half way through the season is INSANE. PD is basically a season long equivalent to 1 draw game. We've made it insanely hard on ourselves for whatever reason, but every win we've been the better side. Even last week we were possibly the better side.

This is an incredible season. We lost Tohu/SJ last season then Walker mid season (plus monty who would be useful).

Any fan should be incredibly psyched with this season. We are so far ahead of schedule its mind boggling. Webby is getting incredible work out of a very middling team on paper.

If we can get even half as good as the dogs at recruitment we're on our way to a prem no doubt.

Having rewatched the game, I think this was one of our better performances all year despite the recurring heart attack. I think we started off a bit flat, but that was to be expected given the brutality of the Raiders game last week. Canberra also started flat last night against the Chooks. That game really took it out of both teams. But when we warmed into the game, we did demonstrate that we are superior to Souths. Latrell was the only reason this looked close. Having said that, 7 tries to 5 should have made for a more convincing scoreline if Luke had kicked a few more of his goals.

On the negative side, yes, we leaked 30 pts. But we've shown all year that we can defend well, so the real takeaway was that we actually have points in us. 7 tries and 36pts. With better kicking, we'd have put 40+ on Souths, a team that coming into this game was in the top 5 defensively. Erin's fast ptbs and powerful runs from our back five really set the scene for Wade to come back to his 2023 form. LM feeding Marata damaging lines on the edge on the front foot. Demi and Leka's footwork and late offload troubling the defensive line. Was also great to finally see some fine attacking shape starting to emerge with 2 wingers who can finish. RTS coming back to the form we were expecting last year: 3 tries in 2 games now and 170ish meters in this game.

On the improve note, we need to manage our interchanges better. We do struggle when Erin comes off around the middle of the second half, which is when teams tend to make a late run against us. Also, it looked like we were pushing Marata to prop when Leka came on. Marata played almost the full 80 yesterday which I don't really like because he really doesn't have Ford's motor. He is damaging in limited, controlled spells like Royce Hunt at Wests or Talakai at the Sharks. That's how I prefer we use him. Probably was a result from Barney's injury though.
