Having a conversation with a mate who is a cop in Aussie. I feel extremely uncomfortable around cops, I fear and mistrust them but it is based on my own experiences and beliefs. I don't think they are all bad but there are many aspects of the police community that concern me deeply. With the number of news stories in recent years highlighting innappropriate action by police or even illegal activity and suggested corrupt prosecutions it begs the question...Do you trust the NZ police?

or even more worrying...

Do you fear the NZ police?

well after NZ s most famous Murder
the "Crewe Murders" and that the NZ Police supposendly planted evidence against Arthur Allen Thomas

As well as the Bain case where Rugby Stalwart Joe Karam had to help a maybe innocent man out.

What happened to Mona Blades. was she dumped around the Huka Falls.. the White Station Waggon

DNA Could probably solve alot of these cold Cases now.

NZ Police needs a Cold Case team.. I would support them

P.S Is there a Vote between

I do not trust them
I do trust them

You have to understand the power of institutions. The police force like all large state institutions is a self sustaining beast who regurgitate all those who don't conform.

Police officers who don't participate in the institutionalized thuggery, racist and sexist behavior are ostracised.
It it was and still is a pretty ugly culture, in saying there are still a couple of good cops for every bad one.

Bain case was mostly the polices fault. All the errors and destruction, lack of any proper investigation lead to overwhelming doubt.

Alot of you guys may forget what a Police officer has to face.

Imagine turning up to a Head- on Collision

there are screaming kids in the back of the car, both parents are heavilly blleeding & on the onset of death.

A Lovely young female police officer may provide the kids with a teddy bear while the parents are being worked on.

The parents pass away & and the kids are left without a mum & dad.

Sometimes its worse. the Kids get mauled up & decapitated

As a NZ Police officer you require a certain attitude.. I RESPECT THEM...

This is some of the Scenes NZ Police see

Mod Note: If you guys want to post gory / inappropriate photos, do it on your Facebook.

Assuming that's real, why would you even post that picture without a warning? Wtf...

Some police are good and some are bad. But institutionally, that's the shit I don't like... to paraphrase Chief Keef.

I'm not even sure I understand the post above. Kids die in car crashes or are left without parents and I need to respect the police because they're obliged to attend the scene of the accident? As if normal people wouldn't comfort children in the same situation. That's a par for the course decent thing for any human being to do. If you're at the scene of an accident and children are hysterical you're hardly going to ignore them or punt them in the ribs.

I'd say if there's anyone deserving of respect in these situations it's the ambulance crew, the nurses, doctors and surgeons who willingly opt for a career in which they're dealing with gruesome injuries and tragedy on a daily basis. Police officers don't sign up for that, it's something that's put on them, a tiny part of their job that most would sooner not have to deal with. The lovely female police officer would rather be running about taser in hand zapping nuisance teenagers, I'm sure.

I think the police as individuals are mostly good people but part of a bad organisation, like an Al Qaeda admin or receptionist, say. I kid of course... We all know there are no good people working as receptionists.

I used to play in a cricket league against a team from the police.
I'm not kidding when I say they were unfriendly, intimidating and a pack of cheating bastards.

I'm sure they never gave a single LBW in the 10yrs I played against them.

That's conclusive evidence. Sounds like a lot of teams I play against.
We have two teachers in my team. They are the worst cheating, ignorant, racist guys in the division. It's always their way or no way. They never give an LBW either.
Actually, after thinking about it you have a good point.

I served 20 years in NZ Police. All the things mentioned did happen, however the overwhelming number of Police staff do a good job in often stressful situations. I don't excuse the bad incidents, one of the big misconceptions is complaints against Police go nowhere. Not true. They are mostly investigated to the max.

I will give a personal insight of how tough it can be. I once attended the death of a 4 year old boy who was riding on the footplate of a tractor, fell off and was run over. He died at A & E. The rule at the time was that the body had to be left as is with the resus tubes in place etc. The father wanted to remove them (he was the tractor driver) and we had to hold him back. That was bad enough. We went from there to a guy whose car someone had tried to break into, minimal damage, not much we could do but he demanded Police attendance. He abused the hell out of us because we took a long time to get to him, even though it had been explained to him by the operator that we were tied up. That guy was middle aged and white with a ponytail. To this day I have a feeling of initial hostility when I encounter middle aged white men with pony tails. (I am white BTW)

Yeah, pony tails on men are straight-up creepy. They just scream bad intentions.

Haha, every time I see an update for this thread I get "trust da police" popping into my head, to the beat of NWA's timeless classic.

FWIW, I trust the police. They're there to do a job and in my experience they generally do it to the best of their abilities. I find a lot of people have shitty attitudes towards them; the same attitude many hold as teenagers - some people just don't mature properly as they age, and they retain silly attitudes as adults.

Sure, there are a few bad cops. They're people just like the rest of us... in any group of humans you get some scumbags. It's a pity some people take the actions of the lower quality minority and use it to classify the majority.

I also find police interesting to chat to, as I'm a true crime buff. I've been interviewed by detectives a couple of times (once in relation to a homicide - no, I did not get charged) and found it a fascinating though slightly intimidating experience.

Melbournewarriorfan sorry, I did a substantial edit so feel free to unlike ;)

I don't think anyone is suggesting that people think the majority of cops are bad.

My point is that enough of them are bad that it frightens and worries me.

Yes there are scumbag teachers, bricklayers and so on too... but they can't manufacture lies that will see you spend your entire life in prison unfairly, or shoot you on the way to work when you have done nothing wrong.

the consequences of a cop going bad are massive and much bigger than almost any other profession or sector of society.

That is my fear... I fear their power

Oh I wasn't directing my comment at anybody here, just some people I've encountered during my life who are very anti-police. They tend to be druggies or illegal boy-racers or other shitty forms of human anyway.[DOUBLEPOST=1376355671][/DOUBLEPOST]

Being an acquaintance of this guy, I phoned in some info and got called in for an interview, which involved some very pointed questions (such as: do you own a knife?) and ended with photographs of my tattoos for future reference. I must have fallen into some general police-interest profile haha.
