I don't think it is any secret that the Dems are going to get rid of the filibuster and give statehood to at least the District Of Colombia asap.

This talk of bipartisanship is just bullshit. Most of these senators get on very well but their constituents are as thick as pigshit.

The US fillibuster was brought in with honest intentions but it was Newt Gingrich and later his right wing morons who really abused it against Obama.

It is a disgraceful waste of taxpayers money to have a drop kick like Ted Cruz reading Dr Seuss in the Senate just to waste time.

This has happened in NZ too. National in particular were prone to having boring speeches just to slow down legislation.

There was a "rebel" Labour MP from Onehunga the late Trevor Rogers.

I call him a rebel because he was a genuine character who fitted no mold, especially when on the piss. A truly loveable guy.

Anyway one night in the house the Nats were using the filibuster and this boring MP, whose name I cannot remember, was droning on...and on...and on, until his time was up.

He then said, Mr. Speaker I could go on about this important matter but sadly I am out of time.

Trevor Rodgers leapt to his feet and moved more time for the member to speak. It freaked the National MP and brought the house down. I got that story from Tom Scott, himself a genuine character.

I noticed Biden coughing yesterday.

Today he was very short of breath when speaking.

No one in the media has commented on it.

Between Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, two of the hardest heads in the business I think the Republicans have their hands full, and only tonight Mitch McConnell backed down under the threat of the nuclear option on the filibuster.

Compared with Trump, who was disorganised, lacked any attention span, selected dickheads for every post he had in the government and when they quit or got the sack he managed to find people even worse.

With the threat of the nuclear option in the filibuster hanging over his head McConnell is probably going to behave for the first time in years.

That doesn't bode well for the MAGA crowd, all they can do now is make noise and watch while Schumer stacks the Court benches with Democrat candidates, and sets up at least another Democrat state to balance out the electoral college gerrymander.

The problem is, and it is the same here, is the elites of the political parties. At least here we have MMP which puts some constraints on. Good idea but doesn't take into account the shitfuckery of pollies.

With the US parties both are so bought out by the Corporates that they are constrained by who they put forward. It effectively means the democrats are paid to lose. They actually won this time despite their best efforts.

When dubya Bush was nominated the extreme right wing thought he was too liberal and were only satisfied when Cheney was put in as his Vice ( appropriate name). Same as the democrats, Bernie Sanders was too progressive for their donors (progressive means socialist there). So Hilary got the gig.

Last election Sanders again had big support, other progressive candidates like Yang, Williamson and Gabbard were there as well. Al performed well in debates, particularly Gabbard who ripped Kamela Harris to shreds over her record as a prosecutor. However CNN and MSNBC are in the pockets of the democratic elites, as is Fox with Republicans, and the progressive ones were deplatformed.

They desperately need a 3rd party, but the two parties and main stream media will fight that. They need to get on with it because Trump is looking at starting a 'Patriots party' I see that as being akin to Sinn Fein and the Provisional IRA. The difference being Sinn Fein's main leadership of Gerry Adams and Martin McGuiness, although former IRA leaders, were intelligent and sane.

Trump is looking at starting a 'Patriots party'

It looks like the moderates in the GOP have decided the party, as they have known it since 1854, is dead.

Moderate senators like Rob Porter quitting, who is not that old, is a sign they can see a decade in the wilderness. Liz Cheney, being 15 years younger, is showing her parents smarts is timing her run to perfection.

They might fight over the party name, so Trump forming his own party could be a blessing in disguise.

So you have the GOP being about 45% of the voting population, with about half being for Trump.

That makes for two inconsequential parties. It is obvious that anything involved with Trump will be full of incompetent idiots, so it will die.
