General Poor crowds.

with only 6,240 at todays game and only 7000 at the last home game is it time that the Warriors took some of there games on the road?
Christchurch, Wellington and Hamilton are all viable and have proved that the people will turn up to watch the Warriors.
This i think will have secondary effect in that it'll starve the lathargic Auckland league fans from top rugby league and get them through the gates when the boys do play at home.

Maybe, but we have to remember that they came to Auckland with only 5 wins on their belt ...and hardly any at home.

Exactly Iafeta. The thing is that the other regions have proved that they'll show up to watch the Warriors. The lowest crowd that has turned up for a NRL match involving the Warriors is 14,500. A full 8,000 more than was there today.

Well, they were SORT of competing... Auckland`s a big All Blacks city, plenty turned out at Eden Park yesterday... which means money already spent by a lot of football fans. Put together 5-6 wins in a row, though, and things will improve at Ericsson.

the crowds will return with more wins especially wins at home.

the warriors also don't have many superstars in the team. teams like the broncos have guys like hunt lockyer the knights have johns etc they draw the crowds in regardless of how the team is actually going. the warriors 2 superstars are both props price and wiki who are great players for sure but they don't exactly bring the crowds in.

it's similar at souths too. they have their hard core supporters of 6-7 thousand odd but don't get much more due to not wining games and the fact they don't really have too many superstars in the team.

I would hate to see 'home' venues taken out of Auckland. Yes, the crowds are low, but I'm one of those 6240 fans who attends every game - I'd be heartbroken if I had to miss out because other fans weren't around.

I think they stay at Ericsson due to contractual obligations with the ARC.

When thats up next, I'd specify in the contract that the club can take 3 NRL games elsewhere. With less supply, demand should go up per game.

Take the Storm, they live in an AFL dominated city and they don't always get the crowds; people like Afl, they have jobs and not all the time in the world to go to these games. They have some superstars yes but even then sometiems the crowd doesn't turn up. Why are they turning up? Because they team is winning at home...and going for 11 straight at home today I think.

Yeah, I fully understand that. I'm not saying they wouldn't be justified in changing the home venue every once in a while - just that I'd be upset.

Yeah, it's probably time we do take some more games to other regions of New Zealand, but the 2006 draw won't be changed now. Maybe the Warriors could request some more games out of Auckland in 2007, I think there would be better crowds all round.

Fair point, although the personal preferences of the areas are totally different. Auckland has had a league culture and junior competitions etc., when the Storm rolled into Melbourne it was a foreign territory for league. No junior comps, no club sides, a real affiliation with AFL and a total lack of knowledge about rugby league.

So you expect crowds to be poor in Melbourne, financially to the NRL its still a strategic key because it opens up niche markets for the NRL's marketing publics which in turn stimulates revenue (sponsorship, TV deals etc.). But I don't really stomach the Warriors crowds being poor on the back of indifferent performances. I can understand it, but if you contrast it to other one town one team fortresses like Brisbane, Newcastle, the current crowd performance is unacceptable. If we weren't bankrolled by Eric Watson, the Warriors existence would be extremely vulnerable right now.

After watching the Warriors beat Johns and his knights today,if that doesn't bring the fans back,i dont know what will....the Boys were fantastic!!!!
