Did he though? I like Ale, he has more upside potentially. While Evans runs, and meters we're down, he only played 40 minutes in the middle where Ale played 80 minutes on an edge. It's apple's and oranges for me.

Both set up tries, Evans for Montoya, Ale for Berry. Evans 18 tackles no misses, Ale 16 tackles 4 miss tackles. Evans 3 tackle breaks in 40 minutes, Ale 4 tackles breaks in 80 minutes. Evans 2 offloads, Ale 1 offload. Evans 1 error, Ale 4 errors a penalty and a ruck infringement.

Not sure it's that clear cut. I'd give Evans the jersey over Ale based on that game. There are parts of Ale's game he still needs to work on, I'd want to see improvement there before playing him in first grade.
Stop over analysing it. Ofcourse he outplayed him. He ran for 57m in reserve grade smh.

30m of that was one play of him running cross field while Cutters players tried to grab his jersey. Wtf was he doing for the rest of the game then?

Yeah you expect edge players to miss more tackles than middle forwards. Despite absolutely killing him for metres and post contact metres, Ale with more tackle breaks and way faster PTB. Ale backed it up from being arguably best player in the trial too.

I understand Sos as a stop gap for Chanel until he gets back. But Chanel is out for 12 weeks. That's nearly half the season. Give Turner a chance man!!! Let him loose, game plan simple, run when you see space. Come on Warriors!!!!
Yea I was worried for SOS for even a week or 2. Yea PT would be great but who is our organising half? I mean I would rather play 2 sixes than SOS but I very much doubt our coach will. This could have a very serious impact on our season

Kane Evans for me. Simply because he’s a premiership winner prop, is a specialist prop and can tackle. Ale really should have had his shot before Katoa.

For the Chanel Harris-Tavita replacement I’ll give Paul Turner a shot. Need some X Factor in the side. He‘ll be unpredictable and that’s what worries sides. I would also think about moving Harris to the same edge as Turner to babysit him for a bit. Sironen to lock.

I understand what your saying about an organising half. Nikorima is an experienced first grade half, I believe he organize the team, I can't see the Warriors going very far this season if he's not the main half.

Don't get mw wrong that is my preference. I am just freaking out the coach is going to give us 12 weeks of SOS no matter shit he is because we need a traditional 7

According to David Middleton cross field meters aren’t included but if they were 87 meters from 7 runs is not the worst for a bloke coming back from a knee injury and a limited preseason.

Look, agree to disagree. Ale needs to knock a few edges off his game away from the ball - Katoa should’ve tipped him up when he went past him with his solid all round game.

No I meant 30m of the field, not cross field. I was highlighting the terrible jersey grabbing defence that allowed him run across like that. Nothing special from Evans. And how invisible he must have been for the rest of the game.

Evans has more to work on than Ale at the moment. Often struggles to even make the gain line.

Lol no one is saying he’s ahead of Katoa, don’t really get how that’s relevant.

If we get SOS it is SOZ. FFS.. back to Kearney ball.. I will scratch my head as Brown must be getting advice from Gould and the like surely and they all feel completed sets stats and low missed tackles = winning games. A. its boring as shit & B. it doesn't!

Well as pointed out he averaged almost 100 meters a game last season off 9 runs on average coming on as the 3rd or 4th banana which doesn’t back up what your suggesting. Starting to wonder if you followed him at all last season or you simply don’t like him because he’s a road block to one of your favored juniors.

Re-Katoa, was simply suggesting Ale needs to work on his all round game to be considered for first grade.

With our forward pack playing well and up against one of the best packs in the game, Evans is the best choice. He’s like for like bodywise with Jamayne Tounua-Brown, defensively sound and experienced.

I’m not sure we need a huge amount of ball carrying from him with all the great ball carriers we have in this team. Ale I see as more of a replacement for Ben Murdoch-Masila or Bunty if either of them go down.

Same as others have said - if Chanel was just out for a week or two, I'd understand to some degree putting SOS in the team and not rocking the boat too much... but 12 weeks is another story, that is half your season and the team needs to be getting into their rhythm with the football - after all this talk about Turner, if they don't play him now they never will.

Or I see it they pick SOS, the team plays shit with no attack for a couple of rounds and then Brown decides to pull trigger and move Kodi to 7 and bring Turner in at 6. Surely. Please.

I actually think its more you thinking he’s a shoe in for first grade just because he’s a shiny new recruit.

Okay so what does Ale need to be working on then? Expand on that, otherwise it looks like you’ve never watched him play. I’m interested to hear what more he could possibly be doing in reserve grade when he’s been the best player in every game.

I’ve watched enough of Evans. He was decent without being great last year. Absolute penalty magnet. Noticeable drop off when Paulo and RCG left the field.

Regardless I’m not picking this weeks team based on last year, I’m picking on form over last couple weeks.
