We have two wingers who are both very similar in build and style. Both power players who run or jump over thier guy rather than get around or beat them with pace. We use them like battering rams (hence most meters in the comp) but never give them the ball with space. Would like to see what someone with genuine pace could do for us on the wing

Yeah I wouldn’t change much. In particular I would try keep our right edge as consistent as possible. 2 of our 3 tries came down the right edge yesterday, and has clearly been our attacking strength every match we’ve played.

I can't wait for team naming Tuesday.

Stephen Kearney will definitely be drawing on Brian Smiths opinion after his first loss of the season.

If Smith tells Kearney to stick to his guns and we see a largely unchanged team (that bench) I look forward to the mob reacting lol and if he does that conservative thing and beats the Dragons he is a genius.

Lawton is a different player to Tevanga imo, he is a ball player - Tevanga can't give crisp service out of dummy half, nor does he offer them a kicking option. Lawton is faster as well.

The similarities are that Lawton can tackle, and Lawton is small for a second rower. Jaz is amazing at going low in the tackle, Lawton has good upper body strength and can take someone high and Wrestle them onto their back.

Even if they only introduce Lawton from the bench, the team will have a different dynamic to it (extra play maker).

There is a very good chance Luke is gone this week with that cannon ball tackle, so it looks at though we see Lawton in action in any case.

It would be just like Kearney to start Jazz at hooker in place of Luke and introduce Lawton carefully off the bench....Kearney is a formulaic guy...he tends to stick to the same template.

It is also likely that Kearney would play Lawton and Jazz at the same time, that is what he liked to do with Luke and TL when he was Kiwis coach, have multiple play makers over lapping.

If they went with a backrower to cover at center I would preffer they experimented with Lawton, Mannering is a horrible Center stop gap (been tried before, he will get stood up by his opposite and offer zero in attack).

Papalii is arguably better than most of the forwards running around out there (overall work rate both sides of the ball is immense) so it's great news he is back.

Papalii at the moment I would rate better than Mannering, Tevanga, Pulu, Sao, Gavet, Lisone, Paasi. Admittedly I am going off one game in round one, but he edged out all those guys better performances in that one game...he was forward of the match...him or Bunty.

After yesterday it was a bit depressing thinking about this week, but if you sit back and do a stock take, we have tremendous depth to keep us competitive in times like these, so no need to give up, we have a great squad.

Center is really worrying me, I really hope Beale by some miracle is fit a week early, it has happened before, and baring in ,mind our Left Center doesn't do a lot as far as Core center play, the left is an arrested development dysfunctional limb of the team, where Beale will lack, is the dummy half running which Kata is a monster at work load wise.

In that regard a forward will have to step up on hit up two - three, and run it earlier than we have been getting away with...that is what they should have done yesterday anyway...when Kata was getting crunched and making no ground...they should have adjusted the running order...so that Kata had a go after a forward like Paasi or Bunty won a ruck contest. Even a run from straight running grunts...middle forward hard workers like Sao and Gavet has been a better option when our back five are losing. An 8 meter run from Sao is gold when we are losing the ruck.

As TD pointed out it is a collective effort with pur team, we dont have the Burgess Twins to line bend, we are more like the Storm pre the Bromwich, NAS, McLean era...a fit mobile hard working forward group.

Pulu is a big loss but not ireplaceable, we have seen how Papalii follows that ball, he brings something of his own.

Off the ball work is where Papa is special...we will see at least one man running block plays ffs and being live in a 2nd phase situation....kick chase improves....welcome back kid...dont let anyone get that Jersey off you...its yours..

Unfortunately the Dragons are one of the last teams in the NRL that you want to face with a rejiged edge defence...but as these guys have shown already, they can survive ten sets on a try line, twelve men on the field when they show up to work.

The performance yesterday falls on the senior players in a good side. This week they come into their own, Blair, Green, Tohu, Luke, Mannering, SJ, RTS, Hiku, the spot light is on them, this is what having a group with that much experience is for, to lead and inspire the young guys who will be stressing this week...in the coming days...those men...not Kearney...hold the keys to getting back up after a knock down.

They've established this great culture, it's in their hands to lead the inexperienced through the first loss.

If Lawton and Beale do make it in, I hope they have blinders....that has been the pattern....the standard of the new....one guy out...next guy takes his Jersey.

Don't other teams sub their tired forwards too?

    Just saying.

Really do hope Solomone Kata is fit to play. He's been steadily getting better with Ken Maumalo on defence and will be marking arguably the best form centre in the game at the moment...

This won’t happen because no one has really done anything wrong in thier roles (except maybe Hiku) but I’d love to see Fus at fullback, RTS at centre and CNK,Beal, Sosomea or Hiku at wing. Fus has all the aerial and defensive skills to disarm attacks and also his powerful runs would be a game changer. RTS with his magic feet could literally freeze defenders and free up his wing with pace to burn. Just a dream

Renouf had a top 6 centres and it was Chambers Inglis Latrell Mitchell might have been Roberts (Broncos), Aitken who's pumping and Curtis Scott.

No room for our pocket sized Kata.

I was referring to Kata marking Aitken lol. IMO Aitken is the best centre in the game at the moment...

I don’t think we need too many changes. Obviously a centre (maybe Gelling) in for Kata and Pappali on the bench with Simon into the team.

Gelling on the bench was a waste of a chance to have an impact forward so Sao should come onto the bench.

The problem I thought was how the subs were used. Tevaga needs fewer minutes and should be used for impact and the same for Lisone.

When/if the team is flat you need to throw on a couple of impact subs.

What do you guys think about Mason Lino being added to the bench for a bit of impact off the bench against tiring forwards late in each half? He provides speed and playmaking ability.

Fox sport were promoting this game as one V two....a match of the round affair....so we have lost 2nd spot to Penrith....the Warriors can annoy like few sides...

Would maybe consider him if Luke was out at hooker but despite effort the guy can’t tackle

Our set structure seems to fall
One thing Mason doesn't have is off the mark speed.

We're kind of fucked for backs until Beale is back. Fingers crossed it's soon, because Gelling anywhere in the team is going to give me fits. I may actually avoid watching the game live if he's named to start because it will be a bloodbath. Cunt can't pass or defend.

I'm not dead keen on the idea of Hiku and CNK defending together, but if we can get a couple of forwards to babysit them, it may hold together. The reason I'm pairing Fus with Ken is that I remember them being quite reasonable together for a few games. It's not ideal because he's killing it on the wing, but we CANNOT FUCKING HAVE Gelling AT CENTRE. I think Fus and Ken will combine nicely for some points too. In the limited time I've seen Fus at centre, he's been good at putting his man away.

In regards to the forwards, I think that's where we're least hurt by injury. Pulu going down sucks, but Papa and Mannering are back, so we're in good shape there. I've actually pretty much axed Paasi as he hasn't impressed me a whole lot. I'd rather see Blair there and sure up defence with Mannering at lock. I'm open to 8. Sao/Lisone; 11. Mannering; 13. Blair, but I think this balances our attack out wide better.

For the bench I've fucked off the extra utility. We don't need it. Our 1 to 5 can pretty much all move around to accomodate an injury with Jazz / Mannering / Tohu plugging the centre hole. If Bully goes down, we've got Jazz. If any of the forwards go down, our pack is also capable of shuffling with several capable of playing prop and second row. Tohu could also play 6 at an absolute pinch if a half goes down OR you throw Jazz there. Again, not ideal, but most teams are fucked if a half goes down. Blair, Mannering and Harris are all 80 minute players too, which gives us the luxury of having Satae or Vete as an impact prop for short stints.
