Ronnie Spector has died of cancer. RIP

I’ve got the Ronettes greatest hits somewhere on vinyl, great pop band

A great example of that wall of sound her husband created right from the opening drum. She was Keith Richards main squeeze whenever the stones toured the states early on, even he wouldn’t cross Phil Spector. Richards actually adored her and hated the way Phil Spector treated her.

He was a crazy prick, but a clever one too.
He had some talent in the Wrecking Crew.

Glen Campbell, Leon Russell, Hal Blaine, Carole Kaye...just for starters. Now while we are talking all nostalgic try listening to Glen Campbell's first hit.

He did a demo with the Wrecking Crew, calling out instructions as to when they were to play their parts. Glen could not read or write music.

He took the tape to the record company and asked to be able to record it properly.

Instead they overdubbed his voice commands and released the song as it was originally played.

Just listen for when Carole Kaye comes in with the bass, just amazing.

Stevie Nicks vocals, and just for old time sake Karen Carpenter on the slow ones.

Did I post this honey of a voice? I cannot remember:

Karen Carpenter was a very good drummer also. Hal Blaine did a lot of the live and tv stuff.

So much choice for lead, the white negress Dusty Springfield, Grace Slick, Martha Davis and two Kiwis, Annie Crummer and Margaret Urlich.
I will take the whole lot. Dusty was special, hey but if we are going there waht about Kiki De. She was the next best thing to Dusty back in the day.

What a golden time for NZ music, and the girls were not taking a back seat. When the Cats away was a great fun compilation of talents.https://youtu.be/XfypLPoE508
