General NZ Warriors vs Wigan Warriors 2014 Trial

There are strong rumours over here that Wigan may play a warm up game against you guys before the WCC see here

Not sure if it will really happen as its very close to the 9's and I suspect Tomkins won't play. That said if it comes off I'll still be jealous as anything that I can't be there.

Have you guys heard anything?

In the last few days an article raised the prospect of a game between clubs to fill in for the Png game that may not go ahead after all.

I will go for certain and cheer Wigan on if it is over here , the NZ Warriors have no shortage of support and I'm a true NZW fan so it would be a bit of a buzz going along with some Wigan gear on and sticking it up some of the NZWarriors mob in Hamiltion....always wanted to do that lol

Plenty of Kiwi fans support opposition clubs at MT Smart....I've been dying to find out what that feels like.

From what I heard (think it was either stuff or smh) they wanted to have a match around the time of the wcc but the schedule was too tight. Wigan supposedly wanted a game the week before the wcc (played 22/2/14) as a warm up but that is the weekend of the 9s. They could potentially do it the week after but might b a bit tight seeing as we have a trial against the broncos on the 23rd and our first game of the season is on the 9th of march. Would love to see it happen though there was talk a while back of making it an annual fixture as a way to further link the clubs.

a regular fixture would be pretty good. Though at the moment I have a slight worry that it would just put our youngsters in the NRL shop window. Sadly though if they prove themselves they'll be there anyway!

I suppose it's all possible if th use a majority of NSW Cup players or guys like Ropati, Rapira and Sione and Sam that didn't do the WC or had much football in the last 12 months.

Yes, we have heard about a game between the clubs and would be a great thing for both clubs.
I would like a home and away type fixture as this would expose some of the young players to international travel and different cultures and values.
Keeping fingers crossed that it does become a reality.

Scurrah shot down the rumours of a Warriors V Warriors game for next season. He did mention that it would be something they would look to in the future. Would be a great match! Infact it would be nice to see the top 4 NRL V the top 4 ESL matchups every year or two.

Would love to see the top 4 NRL vs top 4ESL with top 2 teams from each having the home game. Hopefully with the 9s seemingly quite successful it will encourage the NRL to try out a few more initiatives to keep the game interesting.

Hopefully the Wigan trial gets televised. Would there be a demand for it in the UK?

It's going to be great to be able to see the World Club Challenge as I usually miss it with it being played Monday mornings over here. And it's my favourite Super League team as well.

But first a word : this game has more interest to it than any of the other preseason Trial stuff against NRL teams.

Playing the Double Grand Final Champions is a bit of an honor and rekindling the Wigan NZ connection is just another coup for management. Even though they were pressed to agree to play Wigan it gives the sister club arrangement the stamp of formality.

Best thing the NZW could have done was to align themselves with the Wigan legend. Other NRL franchises will be turning green with envy....it's promoters gravy for us.

Good move making sure the best Wigan player stumps up for us as well lol ( shame really . it would have been special to play a full strength Wigan 2013 winning outfit ) still you can't have everything.......or in the case of Tomkins yes we can

Definitely Experimentation phase , but that suits me if it means Townsend gets a full go and Bukuya.

Running one of the Leeds Rhino lads of that extended bench would be nice touch for them.
