💙 Mighty NSW Cup Match Report: Another five in a row feat - warriors.kiwi

Last night the One New Zealand Warriors made it five NRL wins in a row and today the club’s New South Wales Cup side matched the feat with a 24-14 victory over the Roosters at Wentworth Park in Sydney.

It extended the Warriors’ start to 9-1 lifting them to 20 points, three points clear of the Dragons and the Eels, with their points for and against reading an astonishing 345-184.

There was just one change to the starting lineup used against Canberra last week with Harry Durbin starting at prop for Tanner Stowers-Smith, who made his NRL debut against the Dolphins last night.

When the two sides met in round three, the Warriors put the Roosters to the sword winning 46-12.

They started confidently this time, Tanah Boyd feeding second rower Tom Ale on his shoulder for the first try after just seven minutes.

The Roosters levelled up through a try to England winger Dominic Young converted by former Warrior Chad Townsend but that would be the only points in the first half.

The second spell began brilliantly for the Warriors as interchange prop Toby Crosby imposed himself.

First he powered through defenders from 10 metres out to score next to the right-hand upright, Boyd converting for a 12-6 lead.

And moments later Crosby lit the fuse for the try of the day, steaming onto dummy half Sam Healey’s pass inside his own half and exploding through the defensive line before off loading to his left to centre Moala Graham-Taufa who raced away 40 metres for his sixth try in the last four weeks.

Boyd’s conversion had the Warriors solidly placed at 18-6 with the half just five minutes old but they couldn’t extend the lead. Instead it was the Roosters closing to 10-18 with a Jake Elliott try with 17 minutes still to go.

Any fears of a nervous finish were allayed when standoff Luke Hanson dummied and darted in for a try to put the Warriors in control at 24-10.

They conceded a third Roosters try but had done more than enough to secure two points for their fifth consecutive win and their ninth of the season.

Next up they face the sixth-placed Canterbury Bankstown at Go Media Stadium next Sunday.
