Recruitment NRL Rumoured Player Movements, Re-signings and Rumour Mill 2023-2024

as I said, if Williame wasn’t here for a couple of years I’d take him but not at the expense of Pompey or taking another spot in the top 30. Used to put in some abrasive runs like Montoya and those two would be tough for an opposition. Was a handy kicker too. Williame is solid enough though and good for the young guys by the sounds.
But he can't pass! 😂 Pompey is enough 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Sounds as though Herbert is off to the eels, Waqa Blake to super league at the end of the year so I presume it’s his replacement.
Thank goodness. I have Herbert rated in my bottom 10% of the league,
I think he is awful ever since he was terrible for us. He didn't do the Titans any favours in that infamous playoff game with a play that in all likelihood will be his career defining moment,

The Titans have signed winger Ken Maumalo after the 28-year-old was granted an immediate release from his Tigers contract.

Maumalo will join Justin Holbrook’s side for the remainder of the 2023 season, adding to the Gold Coast’s impressive winger stocks until the end of 2025.

It was definitely his Ben Hunt / Herschelle Gibbs moment, but to be fair to him he did put in some very good performances for the Titans that season.

and he went away that off season and trained the house down and bulked up. And therefore in 2022 he did thumping tackles and tackled his socks off. But his offensive skills even last year as he tried to bounce back and make a statement remained lack lustre. Yes he would force one turn over every game through a thumping tackle but he wasn;t and still isn't an effective distributor or line breaker, and his step is non existent.

Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii to play rugby union from 2025 | Daily Telegraph

NRL superstar Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii is poised to quit the Roosters and take up a $1.6 million deal with Rugby Australia in 2025.
The sought-after teenager is close to agreeing to switch codes, putting him in line to play for the Wallabies against the British & Irish Lions in two years’ time.

While Suaalii signed a one-year contract extension with the Roosters until the end of 2024, his agent Isaac Moses has been in direct negotiations with RA chairman Hamish McLennan about the deal for 2025.

Roosters insiders are resigned to losing the talented outside back.

The length and terms of the rugby deal are still being worked out, but sources indicate Suaalii has made a commitment to play union in 2025.

The addition of Suaalii would be a major marketing boost for rugby, as Australia prepares to host the Lions for the first time since 2013.

Given the fact the Lions tour Australia only every 12 years, Suaalii only has one shot to participate in the historic series, and that is a key driver for him.

But the huge money on offer is the other carrot, with no NRL club able to match the deal. Suaalii, 19, is earning $700,000 a year at the Roosters.

Suaalii was determined to wear the fullback jersey for the Roosters, but that option has seemingly disappeared after the club re-signed captain James Tedesco for another year – until the end of 2025 - meaning Suaalii would have had to wait until 2026.

Instead, he’s set to cross codes and become the latest big-name NRL stars turned rugby players, following Israel Folau, Sonny Bill Williams, Lote Tuqiri, Wendell Sailor and Mat Rogers.

Incredibly, Suaalii was offered to Rugby Australia as a 16-year-old rising schoolboy star three years ago for $200,000 but was rejected. That led him to pursue a rugby league career with South Sydney Rabbitohs.

In late 2020, rival club the Roosters poached Suaalii from Souths, and he has since gone on to score 17 tries in 27 first grade games, as well as star for Samoa at last year’s Rugby League World Cup.

So he’s on $700,000? We’ll that should free up about 2 million cap space for the roosters then?

If it gets confirmed. In the last month he's committed to the Roosters for 2024 through his player option and then signed with the ARU for 2025.

The debate with the current NRL contracting system is when guys sign after November 1st and wait a year. He we'd have player who has two years mapped out.

Do you think he would see out 2024 with the Roosters?
They have been relaxed about all of the questions on his future and if he'd re-sign under his current deal. Usually if someone signs somewhere far in advance some pressure comes for a release so they can get onto the new contract.

I couldn't see how long the ARU deal is for, just says 2025 and the appeal of the Lions tour. Could be similar deal that he is currently on. Due to their lack of depth compared to NZ Rugby he'd slot in to the Wallabies quickly so he may not need 2024 to get back into union before the Lions Series. If he signs with the ARU he will surely stay until the 2027 World Cup.

They mention the Lions tours being every 12 years to a given country. I remember them coming here in the early 90's now I've lived through a few of them. Life goes a lot quicker when you get older.

ARU are so dumb. They sent themselves broke doing dumb shit like overpaying for league converts and now they're back at it again.

For the price of Suaalli they could probably secure 7-8 juniors who will just end up signing with league while the ARU circle jerk over their Suaallii press release.

Aaron woods off to manly and the dragons get the two props that was reported, Tuitavake and Fifita.
