A few comments...

Most astute signing was Cameron Smith. It was what the Cowboys are missing since Thurston left and Taumalolo, Smith and Morgan takes this side to another level.

My favourite moment was when I was stirring up scenarios with the Manly and Warriors squads and they finally bit back with my players turning on the coach using my own comments about my players - the sort of banter I appreciated.

I appreciated Wrightys next level planning. He was playing chess where I felt like I was conducting an orchestra.

Gotta say I’m pretty stoked with how my sharks turned out.
All Australian back three- two of the most exciting young backs in the game at center, hunt and Sj in the halves is awesome, a killer forward pack led by Jesse bromwhich and the two most dominant edge forwards in the game- wade graham and vilame kikau.
The jewel in the crown is the all international bench- Tamou, bhu, Simms and nikorima- talk about impact! And I think that’s what i love most about this lineup- the balance of the side- there’s really no weakness and I think that’s what separates it from a couple of the other sides who also built great squads (I’ll make another post to talk about them and hand out the awards).

Just going to do some super serious talking up of my side
Old Team - Backs

Good talent, but misaligned, fullback is crucial, you can’t have your strike weapon lumbering about back there using all his energy chasing kicks.
Dane Gagai’s 14 tries in 52 games for souths will not be missed, Bill Tupou ass conversion rate - this isn’t origin – Oates covers him in every area in club games.
Campbell Graham was tough to let go, but feel Stephen Crichton has more upside.

Forwards
That starting pack was good, but...

Bench
...That was an ugly bench with no impact

New Team - Backs

Have the next GI at 6 and the next Folau in the centers. Add in RTS and an elite kicking and organising half in Reynolds.
Oates is great set starter, and Burns and Mulitalo have potential.
Moving Latrell to 6 may be controversial, but he has a huge boot to take pressure off of Reynolds, he can run over the top of opposing halves and free his dynamic outsides. Defence won’t be an issue, and being close to the action will appeal to his ego.
Could say it lacks a bit of playmaking but RTS has increasingly got better at being that 3rd half coming into the line at the warriors, and he has far better cattle around him here.

Forwards
A very complementary pack, Arrow is the stat merchant, capable of 200m games, Burgess is the bulk, Nikora a line runner with pace, Sims can bring some mongrel and Papalií just needs to tackle, cover for Damian Cook in defence, and follow him on attack.

Bench
It’s not an elite bench but its pretty straight forward rotation, 2 young specialist props, an impact back rower so Sims and Papalií don't have to play 80 and a utility who could spend a bit of time at lock and cover the backline.

Wider Squad

Not much going on here, Tristan Sailor was going to get a run before the RTS trade, Steven Marsters might get a go if Ronaldo struggles. Hame Sele the next bench forward up.

This Team is improved. It had players out of position with a weak bench before hand which meant they couldn’t cope with the 80 minute forward power of a team like the broncos.
They now have the pieces with rangy backs and quick forwards to play an exciting up tempo game.
Don’t hold the fact that Sam Burgess was a dickhead who received favourable treatment at every level of the game against them, he’s gone now, this team is good to watch and will score points and win games.
Wayne Bennett is now a puppet coach who will do what his GM tells him, that means no more penalty goals at 0-0.
It is also a very youthful side, expect the Rabbitohs to be near the top of the log for years to come.
Giving up a great player like Cameron Murray is not easy, but you can’t pass up adding an icon of the game in Roger Tuivasa-Sheck to your side.

*****

This was way more fun that the initial wall of rules would have you believe, more players would be good, but more players and the commisioner might have thrown in the towel with the amount of bids!

We had 9 – 12 would probably be good, 3/4s of the comp.

PENRITH PANTHERS

7 new additions to our starting Line up,1 on the bench. Reshuffled backrow and a starter taking the utility role on the bench.

Our young and proven international flanks just ooze speed, power and evasiveness with freakish finishing ability.
Add the speedy and electrifying Connor Watson from the back who will sniff out any opportunity and you get a back three that will have all comers anxious.

Perfect center combo with speed and skill on one side and brute power on the other to unleash our back three.

We have a mate against mate Origin halves pairing with Cleary up there as one of the best in the NRL.

All but one in our pack is an International. Apisai Koroisau is the magician,Aaron Woods is the leader,Molo is the impact,Yeo is the grafter,JFH is our high work rate ruthless enforcer, Tetevano is our mongrelism.

3 International bench players with our versatile Luai covering HK/HLVS/FB,Consistant battering ram Leota, giant knife through butter Sipley and our mad crack Jack Hetherington.

Our wider squad is solid with some talent on the rise who are ready for first grade and a couple who will walk into any other teams 17.
Will not look out of place in the top side.

Well rounded team,definite top eight.

BEST TEAM --CRONULLA

a) the best final team.
Well might be biased but I think it’s my sharks- if you’re not allowed to vote for your own team tho I find it hard to separate manly and Newcastle- manly have a slightly stronger starting lineup but Newcastle have the better bench.
Most of the game I was looking at manly as my main competitor but the knights made some great late trades and if I HAD to pick one I think it would be the Knights by the smallest of noses.

b) the most improved team
- well I gotta say the sharks are a contender here too- I compared the start to finish sides and think I improved in 12 positions, stayed the same in 4 and went backwards in just 1 but putting my own ego aside for a minute.... I had the warriors penciled in for this one but sorry wrighty I think u dropped the ball with that last rts trade. All the centers being mentioned were about the same including Parker (btw if I was selecting your team I’d play him ahead of hiku) so u essentially swapped rts for walker which seems insane but a very warriors thing to do- revoking memories of the great Sj nikorima trade. Walker has only really had a couple of outstanding months of footy in his career- they just happened to be right before that players poll u hung your hat on and he went right off the boil after that. To put it in perspective he’s in his 30s and still yet to play 100 games- not someone I would call a dominant half. But the worst part about it was that trade strengthened a couple of your rivals for this award and I think u giving away rts combined with the dragons jagging cam Murray hands this one to PullinTeeth

c) the most innovative final team
Of course it’s Canberra- that was farkin awesome- a plot twist to rival the sixth sense (I see j people..)

Also possibly vote/comment on:

i) Most enthusiastic trader (person who made the most trade proposals)
Again wizard was extremely active- now we know why.

ii) Funniest trade
Yeah the shitty katoa takes the cake there (was wondering if Matt dufty was getting confused with Matt Duffy at one point too?)

iii) Most astute trader
While it’s tempting to give it to PullinTeeth who was most improved I think Mr Brownstone takes this- his hands were tied after splashing all his cash on smith but he traded his way out of trouble- his tactic seemed to be wait till someone offered him a trade then offer a shity version of it back and hope they bite.

iv) Funniest moment
This made me lol and was very relatable

And I want my missus to stop talking while I'm trying to trade players, but we cant always get what we want
v) Most entertaining person
Wizard with a special mention to tajhay

In the end I think everyone improved their team so well done to all involved 🤜🤛

Right then time to extol the virtues of my team.

Firstly the spine of Holmes, Drinkwater, Morgan and future immortal Cam Smith is an outstanding combination that would compare well to any other team in the competition. The fact they are playing behind a powerhouse pack that includes the two best middle men in the game - another serious future immortal contender Jason Taumalolo and Josh Papalii - makes them even more impressive.

The side is complemented by quality experienced players including Whitehead, O’Neill, Feldt, 2019 breakout prop Knight and 2020 breakout youngsters Guler and Katoa (and Drinkwater as well). Even the likes of Opacic and Ravalawa are underrated, having put in good seasons in 2019.

The Cowboys ranked 14th in 2019 however I genuinely think they would be a title contender with this squad.

I’ll comment on a few other teams a bit later.

a) the best final team
Contenders Manly vs Sharks
Going to go Manly as they had the best 13. Felt that Sharks over invested in bench strength. I know 14 man off the bench is important but would have given the 10 jumper to Tamou. Not sold on Blair as the 13 either.
Manly's for me their weaker bench notwithstandng.
Honourable mentions to St George and Knights

b) the most improved team
Contenders Warriors, St George, Rabbitohs, Cowboys

Cowboys put massive amount of eggs into Cameron Smith. There were two dynamic acquisitions in this game. Smith and RTS. The Saturday night where we all bid for Smith was completely out of control and having all happen through a sealed bid process with leaked press releases was fantastic. Possibly overpaid in the end for Smith. Warriors went all in at $1.5M plus Fusitua as our bid and then pulled out after that.

Warriors - I think we came out evens in the RTS trade. Although that is because I havn't seen much of Parker. On paper Curtis Scott is big upgrade stats wise and with his resume. On paper it was an upgrade at centre as well as Half. My whole reason for comfort with Dylan Walker was the players poll as didn't think the players would vote for a fly by night player on a hot streak. Warriors I have in 2nd for most improved.

Rabbitohs: Started slowly in the game but lucked out with the Arrow acquisition and seemed to grow in momentum from that. Their team is entirely the opposite of my Warriors line up. My team I have ranked as 8 out of 10s across the park. Their team has some 12 out of 10 players with RTS and Latrell and Cook is a 10. Then some mediocre guys. Not happy with Latrell being a 6 is the big knock and would have liked to see them snag back a guy like Clifford as their half. Clifford was obtainable.

St George: Is my vote for most improved. Their last minute acquisition of Murray was helpful in achieving this as was snagging Whare towards the end. They were the horse that ran down the home straight the fastest. My major issue with not pitching St George for best over all team is Foran. Am ok with him being in the team for $300K. What bothers me is that he is the captain when he will probably miss half as many games as he plays. Deducted points for chosing Foran as captain.

St George most improved award. Warriors 2nd
Honourable mentions Cowboys and Rabbitohs.

c) the most innovative final team - hands down Canberra. What an idea.

i) Most enthusiastic trader (person who made the most trade proposals)

ii) Funniest trade
Several of them:
Was quite humoured with my acquisition of the shitty Katoa
The denied trade of Fafita for E Katoa.
The King Cunt trade for someone I hadn't heard of.
Aaron woods for Kikau was eyebrow raising.

iii) Most astute trader
Mr Brownstone - his Granville for e Katoa trade was mutually beneficial and afterwards noticed E Katoa was highly sought after.

iv) Funniest moment
Jordan Kahu being injured anyway to compound Raiders not having the funds for him.
The banter about Lachlan Burr and Adam Blair only being acquired as trade bait and how the players felt about being used as pawns by Raiders management.

v) Most entertaining person
Sir Isaac. He was priceless. Loved the press releases.

Bro u signed Cody walker not Dylan walker 😂😂
Although they’re about the same so doesn’t matter too much I guess.
Haha meant Cody
I went to awful lengths to make sure I didn't fuck that up in the trade documentation as I kept getting the names switched in my head LOL!!!!

U copped a bit of flack for the kikau woods trade but even looking at your team now u needed that dominant front rower.
In retrospect u might’ve been better off holding onto kikau for trade bait but must admit I was taken by surprise by how many trades ended up happening and how much people were able to improve their sides through trading.
I know I’d play the game differently if we were to do it again.

Most improved probably has to go to the cowboys considering their starting team list. Signing King Cam will do that

Sorry Manly, I see basically the same team with an old Brett Morris and Jake Turpin added in.

Knights would get my vote as best on paper, all that really matters is spine and go forward and they have both, sneaking Milford capped them off.

Here's Cody's highlight reel. His tries are ordinary. But the footage of his passing game is very strong if not elite half level, He creates shape for his team the way he distributes the pill.

When I looked at the 2019 stats he was right up there for line break and try assists. He is a good distributor. Or at least he was in 2019.

Kikau and JFH were my crown jewels in the pack.
With Tamou on the off contract list he was sold under my nose.
Not knowing the game I had two part with a crown jewel.
So one of them was going anyway.
Was handy having Yeo who sured up the look of my pack.
Martin,Burns and Hetherington are known but not household names yet.
Worked out in the end.

Sorry Manly, feel the same way as Eudebrito.
But your additions are awesome and you chose well.

Having experience helps in this game. It took a few of the GMs a few days to figure out how to get into the swing of trading. It helps not to have sacred cows. You must be willing to give up something good to get something back.

Had I been Cowboys - once I landed Smith I would have accepted offers for him but said no unless it was a great offer. Had someone offered an unbeleivable package for Smith then Cowboys could have finished up higher.

The last thing about the RTS trade wanted to mention is that winning wasn't my goal. Just having fun and doing reasonably well. As the moderator of the game my priority was ensuring you blokes enjoyed yourselves. I also had a blast at the same time.
The RTS trade allowed some excitement near the end. The game wouldn't hsve been complete without that moment and drama.
