Thought I'd watch back the first 15 mins to see why things went horribly wrong and in addition to the well talked about expansive pass over Rocco Berry's head which was too early in the game to be rolling the dice, a couple of other pivotal moments I thought were Murdoch-Masila getting tangled up with Moses who timed his dive perfectly but it should never have happened and his slightly high shot on Moses after a fairly innocuous kick. He was otherwise exceptional so hope he gets a little more disciplined for the next game. Hope we also concentrate on completions and field position so early in the game which we've usually been good at.

The other things I thought I saw live and was very disappointed about were Jazz getting wrongly called out when he was clearly square at marker and caught out Mahoney hesitating for a run:

Capture

Up until that point I thought we had it very under control in defense and Chanel Harris-Tavita was especially good in shutting down his opposite. The weight of possession caused the inevitable first try.

Second strange occurrence was after Paulo dropped the ball he tried his best to put a big shot on Harris and I could be wrong as there was only one angle, but it looked he attempted a no arms tackle in which Harris spilt the ball moments later:

Capture 3

I stopped re-watching at this point. Couldn't put myself though seeing the Freddy Mercury double again.

Nice analysis. And then when we ran behind one of our own players on attack and the runner dropped to be tackled... but the ref still called a penalty against us 🤬

No. We all want to put an 88kg 18 year old in the halves to manage the game and get steamrolled by forwards so he can last a few games before having to be rested for the rest of the season or watch it from his hospital bed. We dont understand the impact a fullback can have on a game because our memory is only one game long.
Actually, he can play FB next year if it serves the make up of the team best, but this season, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is a better FB with Walsh playing in the halves not vice versa..

what your thoughts on our wingers Mark?

I hate ragging on players, but I’ve never been a Maumalo fan. To be fair, I don’t think he’s ever been a winger and we’ve kinda forced the issue. Outside of one good year where Hiku put him away a lot, he hasn’t done much in his career to date.

We’ve been able to make do with him the last few years due to our poor game plans but with Walsh here, and the speed of the game I think we need to look for speed and someone who can beat a man.

Fusitua has looked poor for about 2 years now, and we all know things aren’t great with him right now so I won’t kick him while he’s down. I do think his game can improve with Walsh in our team though, so there’s hope for him.

Watched the replay today.

The sad thing about seeing that game again, is that we outplayed the Eels in the second half.

Corey Parker kept saying how tough the Warriors were to make any kind of come back in the context of that game.

There were some excellent phases of defence and we must have made more than three hundred tackles.

That first half we only put together two sets and the rest of it we let the Eels thrash us with free ball.

So hard to take the way the Warriors can only do one thing well at a time. This is a thing, a long term thing.

If they defend well, their attack sucks, improve the attack, the ball retention goes out the Window.

Clearly the Warriors need to go back to absolute basic skills for a few months. The passing is awful, and catching the ball isn’t where it should be.

Rather than slam the team for not being able to do the basics, I accept it as part of what needs fixing with our players.

It is not new, it is not this coach, it is not just these players, it is a Warriors lack of basics life long problem.

That is where Kearney ball fixed a lot of issues. Ball handling. With this line up, holding the ball will win them a lot of games, they are pretty good at attacking now.

As for the speed issue, with Roger on the wing, we could make one fast edge with him and Aitken, Kodi, Walsh chiming in, there is plenty of speed there in that group if you align them.

Make the left a defensive edge, right side, our speed edge.

If you swap out Ken for Montoya you get more speed on the left as an option....Berry and Pompey are neither fast nor slow, Montoya might be the key here...

Not ragging on Ken, I know we need him while there is no Addin Fonua-Blake....and Ken might be awesome when Addin Fonua-Blake runs after Ken.

We look like we could be about a sixth place side if we sought our shit out....which would be awesome year one under Brown.
