My opinion.

The defensive effort was outta sight compared with the earlier games. There is hope. :)

The forwards slowly gained the ascendancy and never let go.😍

The completion rate turned to shite, heyzeuss knows why and might have been the killer later in the game.

WTF says they aren't fit. The stats say otherwise. They might not be as dominant in fitness as last season but maybe that was because other clubs have caught up.

This match was lost on a couple of bounces, as tough matches are. If only Gerard Beale had put the ball on the line, and CHT hadn't got in front of the kick.

When it was still level CHT should not have tried the drop kick unless he was sure it was going over, they got the seven tackle set and the panic set in. That is just inexperience, he will be much better for this game.

Bam Bam Lisone is starting to look the goods:) at long last

Blair is still overpaid.

Peta Hiku is one of the more dangerous attacking backs in the NRL, but he did let in a try, I guess nobody is perfect.

Losing Blake Green must have affected them, but it didn't really show so hopefully next week will see more composure.

Big Ken had a great game under the high ball, and bugger me I would hate to have to tackle him when he carries the ball back. Somehow though I think Hiku was designed for Fusitua and not big Ken. If SK is going to perservere with Kata put him back with Ken.

I watched the ISP game and Perham is definitely FG material. Obviously he is learning from RTS, even has the same style of play. There is no doubt he can play in the halves if needed.

Also, heyzeuss heard my calls for more Ngapuhi and answered with Preston Riki. They breed them hard, fit and tough up there. Penrith and Parramatta know this, and obviously Brian Smith told the recruiting team that they make good lattes in the Hokianga. Why did it take this useless club so long to find out? Thank you Jim Doyle.

We are going to be 10th after tonight. This is not a top eight club, but not wooden spooners either. I think the fans will put up with the pain to see some gain next year.

Fusitua has had plenty of opportunities at centre and when he played there he went missing, hes a world class wing when he plays alongside a distributor like Hiku
more so than Kata ??????

We can hopefully gell a bit more going into the back stages of the year.
The comp is very tight this year.
I think we aren't far off and if we can get a steak going we may finish 5-9

Utter BS loss .... Warriors better team on the day outside last Qtr (which was unexpected and very promising with the correct changes) ... but when you have Kata and Hiku with no idea in pressure defense structures ... and the rest of the team puffed from trying their best to fill the holes in our D..

Some poor ref calls didn't help but really even with the Kata/Hiku D issues we really brain farted the 2nd half and gifted the game away .. play out the sets for fuck sake stop trying to score on every play .. we really pressured ourselves and gifted the bunnies the game on a platter.

Maybe Kata is being paid off ?? he really looks like a prop trying to mark outside backs too slow always looks like he's trying to tackle two players at once I was taught as a 14yr 2nd five ruggers player " #1 Defense rule Mark the FUCK up and take your opponent out, your look much better-being part of the defense than running alongside the try scorer ....

Kata a perfect Super-league player surely we could trade him for another prop-lock tackle bot etc

Too many errors on attack when we needed to put The Rabbits away.
Add in Kata and Hiku's defense and it was too easy for the Rabbits to storm up from their own end and score when they needed to.
I wouldn't have Kata in my team anymore, it's just a shame he has to be due to injuries.

Because most league clubs in NZ have the feel of a gang pad about them.
An no self respecting white guy is going to want his wife dropping off his
Children there. While he is at work ..
Who your family associates with has effects ..
You will get wigger families attending But you won't get the
White kids with the inbuilt work ethic an leadership skills we are after .
I believe Mannering played union .
This could be somewhat addressed by league in schools .
But the onus is really on NZ league to sort out its image
An that includes the people that go watch the local games in the weekend .
In my experience I didn’t find league to be very welcoming to new players but I don’t know if that’s a club culture thing rather than a race one, also as far organisational things they left a lot to be desired.
My experiences in Union in multiple cities across NZ and Aus were light years ahead and were extremely welcoming

Leaving him out in FG full time might not be the best place for him, what with the way the coaching staff infuriate the fans by not dropping players. I don't want this kid to become hated by the fans while he's learning his trade.

Bring him up in small doses,
Any fan who hates Chanel or thinks we lost the flappn match because of him needs the door and a massive boot on the way out. A kid at 20 played a sensational game, if it wasnt for him we wouldnt have scored 2 of the tries, we wouldnt have had so many oppurtunities that we wasted and look he was 1 foot offside in what was a highlights reel try.

Thats rugby league, what lost us the game was fatigue. So FANS please go hate the players that didnt give 120% like Chanel and Blair and Ah Mau (Im warming to him big time) and while your there, exit being warriors fans. We didnt shut down the leading all runs metre leader in the comp, Damien Cook, the NSW hooker just rang straight passed our markers at will. The bunnies were getting 68m sets for ..... sake, they will do this to every team, its what they do, we didnt shut it down, thats what caused our fatigue and the loss.

I do think if Green was on the field the smarter play would have been to run it on the last as thats what they werent expecting and to die with the ball worse case 5 metres out and make them work 60m with good defense for a 50m attempt likely to miss and give US the 7 tackle set, then take the drop goal. But he will learn a lot from that and playing him small doses wont do that.

So I disagree, its not the Aussie way of doing it, if your good enough, you are playing. All marquee players start young, the same age. He was our u20 player 2017, hes had plenty of of time. Johnson was 20, he didnt get a rest, this kid has skills Johnson couldnt dream of, because they are thinking ones like Jones had.

Hey he won me over in that game.

I just don't want him to become the focus of the fans rage if we go on a losing streak. And telling angry fans to find another club just makes them more angry. lol...

He should ideally be the third string half who gets called up during the season so that he can develop fully. Then when he's had a couple of seasons under his belt in and out of FG, maybe he's first picked in the team. Who knows how good he can get.

All I know is that he aint there yet.

Yet! :)

Bang on Bro, I expect 5/6 wins next games, with an injured cowboys at mt smart, unfortunately Storm away, then a relatively soft bunch until storm back here but unlikely to have some of their key SoO players, and then what is what id call relatively soft run compared to last year.

If the CEO says we have to win as a team then bring it on Georgey boy, if we fail, resign.

But hey he pretty much won us that game so he cant be far off. If RTS hadnt thrown those silly passes to Fus, we should get rid of RTS, or baby him into the position?

I get your point, but honestly, Warriors fans are nothing like NSW fans, thats also our biggest handicap outside having no media scrutiny in NZ.

I say let him play, hes marked to replace Green and what better way than to play alongside him. AK wasnt a serious purchase and he had much worse last 2 games than Chanel, and hes an Aussie lol.

If we replace him, with Adam? So Adam gets hated? haha, thats actually a good ploy.

Honestly I so want Luke Keary id give not just one, but both my nuts on top of the pile of cash we got in the coffers. A rising ultra talented Chanel, learns how to push a first grade team around, whilst also being not only a runner but also a smart player, then paired up with the best player by far in the game right now and NSW half. If Kearney cant coach that and our current roster to a prem, time to close the club lol, joking, just Fire SK and Georgie boy for being sooooo unprofessional during the Johns debacle even if he was right.

Actually on that note, on the NRL live show, Johnson was talking about it, and he said in retrospect i think the club was probably right, or words to the effect, and that this change is what he needed to improve. Yet there he is the number 10 half in the comp, MIA 40% of games so far, sorry Shaun you are worth $800k and thats being VERY generous. Douche bag. Lets never sign another player based on his touch footy footwork again. He wasnt that great a half back at Northcote.

One interesting stat - despite the commentators at the start of the game declaring "Big Sam will run at young Harris-Tevita all night", in the end CHT only had to make half of the tackles that Hiku did on the other side. CHT also had an admirable 0 missed tackles, compared to Hiku's 5.

Didn't cost us the game, but i've never seen a play ruled like that before. Maxwell is a scrub, poor call.
Yeah that was dodgy, but the one where RTS dropped it in the tackle and they called it held was also borderline, the bunker ref really seems to want to go along with gets called on the field.

I’m refraining from commenting after the game anymore, everyone gets too emotional, pretty entertaining game in good conditions, it shouldn’t be a surprise they lost their way in the final 15, in the key positions was a lock, a center and kid with braces. That Luke HIA couldn’t have come at a worse time.

Burr is a real stat merchant, 110 metres and 33 tackles, 4 offloads in 46 minutes is pretty impressive stuff. Statzzz like to be trotted out on here to slag off underperformers, only fair they go the other way too.

If Burr is taking the Locking job with both hands then they could really use another edge specialist.

Bunker can't rule on foul-play unless it's serious enough to go on report.

Blair is an edge specialist.. The edge of retirement.

Couple more random comments

1) Souths won that game rather than us losing it. Cook's was superb from dummy half and seems to be redefining how that role is played in as much as Adam Gilchrist redefined the wicketkeeper batsman position. He hasn't yet but he will in due course. He is yet to get his props for how good he is.
Secondly the hit from Sam Burgess on Fusitua was momentum changing. Both sides saw it. He is a leader. He is a chieftan. And he told his men to follow him to glory with that tackle. It impacted our psyche. He is the best forward in the world. And the best forward in the world played like it on Saturday night.
  1. I don't want to count my chickens before they are hatched, but boy am I tempted to. CHT looked first grade quality. He looked as good anything out there on the market we could have paid $500-$600K for to replace SJ. This season may not be the cluster fuck some of us thought it was going to be.
  2. From a work ons perspective our centres and anyone with the name of Hiku are not proving to be assets. I can't decide what is better, Centres who produce mercurial results (e.g. line breaks and big hits but also dropped balls and missed tackles) or boring centres who simply don't miss tackles but offensively are duds. But we must choose. Right now we are choosing variability. I don't know enough about league to know if this is the right call.
  3. This saturday's match against the Cowboys has banana skin written all over it. They are missing 3 players so hey guess what, based on Warrior performances we will lose and then on the Monday after the game Adam Blair will concede the Warriors took an underdog lightly and played in a manner that lacked intensity. Think back to the Panthers match last year missing 3 or 4 guys including both SOO halves. If we lose and Adam Blair admits 2 days later they didn't take them as a credible threat I will fly to Auckland myself and knee him in the groin.
That is all.

CHT comes from a touch background too.
Wasnt my point Taj ;-p

What Im saying is if their primary ability is more touch style running ie around in circles passing the ball to the opposition with no team mates around him because he just gave himself head spin. Then ignore giving them the half back role . You think CHT and Johnson have the same style let alone brains? Shaun Johnson couldnt organise the Warriors in 7 Seasons. And thats largely why we didnt make the finals for 6 years while Shaun took all the praise, deflected all the heat and took our money and ran.

Id say 7th is a tad high all time Warriors players, maybe low teens. Now had he been SHOVED into 5/8th where he finally ended up and is marginally effective at (about 10th best half in the NRL on his night), then he might have faired a bit better and we would have hired a proper half back who can organise and push a team around, which is what CHT will be soaking up from Green and is already showing as a much better organiser and play caller.

Look everyone has a 1 fond memory of Shaun. As much as Cameron George was unprofessional what he did was 100% right for the club and should have happened 2 years earlier or moved Johnson to 6 on $6-700k, not offer him more for nothing. Then if he performed for 24 games a season for 2 years at the levels like Luke Keary then sure throw $1m+ at him. But that guy had more Ego than ability and hes showing that already. Golden boot means nothing in the NRL, its a couple of internationals vs 24 hard long rounds where you CANT be MIA. I personally think its not all Shauns fault for that reason, the Golden Boot, being mis managed in the wrong position, hiring average 6s when you should be the 6, being given $1m+ without asking for it, yeah thats going to give anybody an Ego issue.

Lol Shaun just rubs me up the wrong way with his monotone personality, quietly sneaking in about how the Warriors were crap that year and no ownership to that. The team was.

Totally and whilst this was in the planning its come premature but I disagree as an Aussie having watched 55 years of ARL that you should be holding off your best players to sooky them into first grade, its not how its done in Aus and neither how it should be in NZ.

Plus when Shaun fails when Greeny retires we can pay him unders of $600k to come play 5/8th every 1 in 3 games he turns up. ;-p

And thats why I wouldnt sweat it. SK will be riding these guys so hard on intensity, after how we played Souths, I cant see anything but points for us. You cant be afraid to back your team in these types of games. I get your hesitancy it is the Worriers, but if we nearly beat what some considered definite contenders and to be fair the highest run metres per game club and individual and NSW hooker in Cook and NSW half back in Reynolds, with a veteran of 2 games in the halves and Hiku doing his best, you have to go with your gut and back your team. Otherwise whats the point of being a fan. Yes they may lose and break ya heart. So disclaimer dont listen to me haha. But Souths were $1.30 to win. And for good reason.

Well they were crap. Having a dig at himself winning the golden boot when his NRL season was below par. He and the others are asking clarity regarding the golden boot criteria which is fair enough. But if you hate him already, every time you see his face will make you angry irrespective of what he says. IMO he is one of the more eloquent speakers who has come from the Warriors system.
