NRL 2018 Round 21 - Dragons vs Warriors TEAM LIST
Dragons 3.jpg

Experienced trio named to face the Dragons

Experienced forwards Adam Blair, Issac Luke and Tohu Harris have all been named to start in the Vodafone Warriors’ 21st-round NRL encounter with St George Illawarra at WIN Stadium in Wollongong on Saturday (3.00pm kick-off local time; 5.00pm NZT).

Harris (knee) and Luke (calf) were listed in the initial line-up for last Sunday’s encounter with Gold Coast but were later ruled out after failing to recover sufficiently.

Blair was serving a one-match suspension but, along with Luke and Harris, he returns in a starting forward pack showing three changes from the combination used in the 12-36 loss to the Titans.

Luke slots in for Jazz Tevaga, Harris for Joseph Vuna and Blair for Simon Mannering. As a result, Tevaga and Mannering – who makes his 296th career appearance this week – are named among the first four players on the extended bench along with Bunty Afoa and Leivaha Pulu. Pulu played 36 minutes last week in his first NRL outing since April 14.

The other four players on the interchange are utility Peta Hiku, halfback Mason Lino, prop Sam Lisone and Vuna.

It was hoped Harris would be ready to make his comeback last week but he has now been set for this battle against the fourth-placed Dragons, who are on 28 points, four ahead of the eighth-placed Vodafone Warriors. He has missed the last four outings against Penrith, Brisbane, Melbourne and Gold Coast.

Luke is in line to return at dummy half after picking up a calf muscle injury in the 6-12 loss to the Storm on July 22.

With Harris in his regular spot on the right edge and Blair back in the No 13 jersey, Mannering reprises an interchange role he has filled seven times previously this season, five of them coinciding with wins over North Queensland (home), Wests Tigers (home), Parramatta (away), Manly (away) and the Cowboys (away).

The backline named is unchanged from the one used against the Titans.

The Vodafone Warriors have stayed in Australia this week, spending the start of the week on the Gold Coast before travelling to Wollongong on Thursday before their final field session on Friday.

The last time the two teams met in the seventh round in Auckland on April 20, the Vodafone Warriors prevailed 20-12 to end the Dragons’ season-opening run of six wins.

Both teams have been battling for form recently, each winning one of their last four games.

St George Illawarra has a clear advantage over the Vodafone Warriors in the sides’ 27 meetings since their first in 1999. The Dragons have won 21 times with two of those losses coming in the last four encounter and both at Mount Smart. The Vodafone Warriors are winless in 10 encounters in Wollongong.

Cheers bro.

That is a mean looking side provided the two Centers have a better showing this week.

Vuna is a bit unlucky to miss out since he put in the effort at least against the Titans...but as the cliche goes...his time will come.

I am most of all happy to finally see our strongest side available being picked (apart from the debate around the centers....after last week Pita could have displaced Beale fair and square as a competition for spots / punishment for poor defence play by the coach).

I think they can well afford the cost of having Tevanga on the bench when you know Afoa and Pulu will bring some impact...the elephant in the room then becomes minutes played.

I think we can take the Dragons if Tohu is genuinely recovered...and more importantly Isaac Luke is fit.

Intriguing to see Manners off the bench, what I like about that is that is shows they are putting some faith in their ideas as to how best to use him as opposed to any preconceived notion that he always starts (got no problem with Simon just making an observation about change) BTW whoever fixed my Avatar to that awesome pick a thousands thanks Yeah boi what a cool pic two champions.

Hasn’t learnt a fucking thing this guy.
Tevanga and Kata are still in........Kearney is actually retarded.
If we fuck it up from here and don't make the eight Kearney should be sacked and replaced by that long streak of piss from Brisbane who even though he is approaching 70 can actually still coach despite what Brisbane seem to think.

Good starting 13 but why you'd have both Tevaga and Mannering on the bench is just meh.

Mannering to shore up that middle 3rd is fine, but we know Kearney's favourite tactic is to take a prop off and put Jazz on....immediately the balance of our pack is lost, go forward becomes a struggle, containing there boppers in the ruck becomes a struggle.

Fark we like making it harder for ourselves.

I understand it’s a pick your poison type situation in the Centres, but either Kata or Beale should have been dropped for Hiku to show that there are consequences for their performances.
I actually agree, but it would also be unfair since Pita had a dozen chances before feeling the hook ( I know a team shouldn't operate on principles of fairness in a negative scenario...but most do).

But we seem to operate using principles of stupidity.Hiku was hooked during the Panthers debacle and then rather than being dropped ( which we all thought he should have been) I presume he gets a rocket from Mooks and plays against Broncos and goes well, injures his hand ,misses the next two games.Beale and particularly Kata are then shit against the Titans ,Fus is having a try scoring drought ( relatively) and despite all that Hiku recovers from injury Kearney now doesn't select him.
Bizarre and retarded if you ask me.

Hiku ... the guy who needed to be dropped for twice as many poor games? I can appreciate the point, but fuck no. Hiku is the one responsible for our last utter arse whooping. No thanks.

Best team we've named for a while.

The only thing missing is form and attitude.

Maybe they could replace Jazz and Gavet.
Yes. Agree. Also, Why isn't RTS or SJ7 running off our forwards in support? We have two of the best and fastest hole runners in the comp. Sick of seeing happy feet Scheck running at players. And Johnson standing in the backline waiting to kick or pass.
We have two gifted athletes whose main skill is stepping and running hella fast. Let Luke & Kakariki run the team, And these two roam the field and sniff out the gaps and run off of Harris , Pulu , Blair & co.

Well its a better looking side obviously, the bench is still dumb though with Mannering and Tevaga.

Kata, Tevaga and Gavet still there unfortunately......wonder what reason Lawton has been given this time for being dropped, especially when Luke is questionable? :-/

Good side part from those issue. Hope the side pulls finger this weekend. I'm not holding my breath though.........this is always the time of year we collapse.
