Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is perhaps the best-known figure in the entire universe! Billions of people have been affected by His life here on earth.

Jesus Christ lived in Israel about 2000 years ago. He never wrote a book or had a company and He never travelled far, but His life still affects people today, why?

Millions have died for their faith in Jesus Christ, believing Him to be the Son of God and Saviour of the world. Millions have accepted torture and then death, refusing to renounce the One whom they love so much and feel so indebted to, but why?

Winston Churchill was the Prime Minister of Great Britain during World War II. Speaking to the RAF fighter pilots he said, “Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so fewâ€Â. His speeches were great and inspired a nation.

Jesus words are truly life changing as He not only inspired a nation, but nations and continents, and He has changed billions of lives by His words and actions.

‘No one has greater love than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends,’ John 15:13.

Jesus the Mediator

Jesus came as a mediator, someone who could intervene and pay the price for mankind. In the beginning man had fellowship with God, but after disobeying Him, their relationship was broken.

Ever since then we have each disobeyed God and gone away from His rules and regulations, which are there to protect us and other people.

This separation is eternal and Jesus came to bridge the gap. Jesus led a perfect life of purity and deed and only went about doing good.

BACK

Jesus' Life

Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and was born in the flesh by the Virgin Mary. Jesus was born in a stable in Bethlehem, grew up as a baby on this earth, into a man and lived to die for mankind. He was on a redeeming mission, to bring separated man back into a relationship with the living God.

Jesus birth, life and death were written about many hundreds of years before it even happened and it can be seen in the first half of the Bible, the Old Testament.

Jesus lived as a human on earth, He identified with mankind. He hungered, got tired, felt pain and even cried. Jesus said He was the ‘Son of God’; many people agreed with Him. Even those who condemned Him and killed Him, knew that He was innocent and special. Jesus was no criminal or even a bad person; He was perfect and sinless. Jesus was whipped, beaten, tortured and then nailed to a tree, and left to die whilst crowds were mocking; but Why?

John 5:17-19 Jesus said “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working†Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because…He said that God was His Father making Himself equal with God.’

BACK

Napoleon’s Words

Napoleon, the French leader, read the gospel of John, which is a book from the Holy Bible, and said “Either this man is the Son of God or the one who wrote this gospel is, I know man, and no man could have written a book like thisâ€Â.

John 9:35-38 Jesus healed a blind man (v7) and said, “Do you believe in the Son of God?†“…Who is He Lord that I may worship Him?†Jesus said, “You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you.†Then he said Lord I do believe!†And he worshipped Him.

BACK

Lives and Nations Changed by Jesus

Through Jesus’ teaching countless lives, communities, cities and countries have been changed. Many legal systems are based on the Ten Commandments and the teaching of Jesus, all of which are found in the Holy Bible. Jesus Christ has made a deep impact on societies, art, literature, music, architecture, and democratic freedoms.

Jesus said that "we should love our neighbour as ourselves" Jesus then went on to tell a story, which shows us that our neighbour is anybody, even if they are our enemy. Regardless what we think of Jesus we would all agree that it is good set of standards to live by. Jesus also said that we should “Love God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength†and that this sums up the whole of the Holy Bible. God should be our first love.

At the very end of John’s gospel it is written that Jesus did many other things, which John supposes that even the world itself could not contain the books if they were all written down one by one.

BACK

The Humanity of Jesus’ Teaching

Many societies, social works or organisations have been formed or created, based on Jesus teaching, love and way of Life.

Jesus said, “Whatever you do for the least of these, you do for Meâ€Â. Feeding of the homeless, shelter, food aid, education, social justice, law enforcement, abolition of slavery, women’s rights, etc sprung from Jesus teachings and lifestyle.

Women, children, and the disabled

Jesus Christ gave dignity to women, respect to the disabled, significance to children, and creditability to the family and status to each individual. Jesus healed the sick, the blind, the deaf, the lame and even raised the dead! There was nothing that He could not do!

BACK

The Gospels

The first four books of the New Testament are all about Jesus' life; His birth, His actions, His death and His resurrection! Jesus died by being nailed to a cross, but after three days He rose again.

The very words of Jesus and His teaching have been penned so that we today can follow in His footsteps, if we so desire. The followers of Jesus, who are often called Christians, are happy to be in love with Jesus and in a relationship with the living God.

Sadly many people say bad things about Jesus and use His name as a swear word; that is because Jesus is still alive and the devil does not like it. The devil encourages people to say bad things about Him, a lot of people just hate Jesus because of the good that He has done. Have you ever heard someone say “O Buddha†or “Mohammed†in a derogatory way? Of course not; they are dead and buried.

BACK

Ascension

Jesus stayed on the earth for about 40 days after he rose from the dead and hundreds of witnesses saw Him. He then ascended up in the clouds and is now seated in heaven next to His Father.

The Bible tells us that Jesus will come again to this earth in the very last days; He will come suddenly like a thief in the night.

BACK

His Followers

We can read about His followers in the New Testament, which is the second half of the Holy Bible; the teaching they taught and the practical illustrations of their lives, their travels, triumphs and tragedies. Even in the difficult times they were able to keep focused on Jesus due to their belief in the resurrection from the dead and of a better life to come with Jesus in heaven.

John 3:16 ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.’

They believed that Jesus died on the cross for their sins, and that He took the punishment that they deserved so that they could go free from eternal punishment, hell.

BACK

The Penalty of Sin

If you commit a crime then you have to pay a penalty and accept the consequences of the punishment. We have all sinned against God and so He will judge us when we die.

The followers of Jesus trusted in Him by faith for their salvation, to be saved from their sins and so that they could enter heaven. Sin is the wrong things that we think, say and do. God tells us that ‘the wages of sin is death’ ‘sin separates us from God’ ‘but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus’. Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23.

We have all done wrong whether in thought, word or deed. Jesus explained that our corruptness comes from our heart. ‘Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks’ ‘If you are angry with your brother then it is the same as murdering him.’ It is what is in our heart that contaminates and separates us from God. Our hearts need to be renewed with the love of God. Luke 6:45, Matthew 5:22.

BACK

The Free Gift of Salvation

The Bible speaks of salvation as a ‘free gift’, Romans 5:15, something that can be received but not earned by good works or purchased by money. God tells us that ‘all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God’ Romans 3:23.

We may have a fridge full of food but we can still go hungry unless we open the door and eat. Salvation is waiting for all mankind, for those who are willing to turn from their bad ways and to follow and trust in Jesus Christ.

BACK

Our Responsibility

Jesus was more than a good teacher, a holy man or a prophet; He was the Son of God.

We either have to accept His claims or reject them. You can read the Holy Bible for yourself. Below are some portions from the greatest book ever.

Jesus said to them, “But who do you say that I am?†Matthew 16:15.

BACK

Testimony

Jesus is not just a man from history; He is someone who can change your life.

From the age of six I went to church, many times it was boring. But when I was 15, I had a supernatural encounter with Jesus. I came to Him knowing that I had sin in my life; it was the things I had done which were wrong.

I discovered this sin kept me from having deep joy, peace and satisfaction. As I prayed asking Jesus to forgive me and to come into my life, I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit deep within - oh what peace and joy!

The experience of peace that I felt was deeper than I ever imagined possible. As the years went on I came to realise that if I was obedient to God, I could live in this peace forever.

Jesus is real, He is God, and can change your life - like He changed mine. If you repent, (turn away from sin) and believe by faith in Jesus, trusting in His death and resurrection you can be saved.

Jesus your Deliverance

Luke 4:17-21 ‘And there was delivered unto Jesus the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written.

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord."

And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all of them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And He began to say unto them, "This day is this scripture fulfilled in your hearing".

John 5:39 "Search the scriptures… they are they which testify of Me".
John 14:11 "Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me, or else believe me for the very works themselves".

Others Peoples Testimonies

John 1:34 “This is the Son of God†(said John the Baptist).

John 1:49 “You are the Son of God and the King of Israel†(said Nathaniel).

John 11:27 “Yes Lord I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is come into the world†(said Martha).

In John 3:1-21 Jesus speaks to Nicodemus who had visited Him at night and tells him that he ‘must be born again’. Nicodemus was confused, so Jesus uses the illustration of Moses making the bronze serpent (Numbers 21:9) and the people who looked to it and were healed from the fiery serpents. (If they did not believe they would not be healed because they would not have looked, and so would have died). It was a picture of Christ Himself being on the cross and all who would look to Him in faith would be saved. ‘The just shall live by faith’, Galatians 3:11. Nicodemus did believe, John 7:50, 19:39-42.

What about You?

What about you? Will you surrender you life to Jesus? Tell God that you are sorry for your sins and turn away from them, this is called repentance and then ask Jesus into you life, and follow the teachings as found in the Holy Bible.

Acts 2:38 ‘Repent and be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins: and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’

Isaiah 55:6-7 ‘Seek the Lord while He may be found, call on Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteousness man his thoughts, let him return to the Lord and He will have mercy on him...for He will abundantly pardon’.

John 14:6 Jesus said to him (Thomas), “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Fat except through Meâ€Â.

Acts 4:12 ‘For there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.’

Romans 10:9-11,13 ‘that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame. Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.â€Â

John 1:12 ‘But as many as received Him, (Jesus) to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name’.

John 1:29 ‘The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the worldâ€Â.

John 3:15-17 ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved’

John 3:36 ‘He who believes in the Son has everlasting life’.

Romans 10:13, ‘Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved’

Remember this song? ‘Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so'.

John 20:30-31 ‘Truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.’

Huh? Why force this stuff on us? This is a sports forum, not a religious recruitment agency. See I do believe in something greater than mankind but who says that it is Jesus Christ or God?

I didn't read it yet. I believe God is what you make of him, not what you read in the Bible. I believe that this world could not just appear and thats why I believe in some sort of higher power. I guess you could call me Agnostic.

Here is possibly one of the most powerful religious quotes in the history of this world:

"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours." - Stephen Roberts

Nah thats shit.

No need for this on here even if it is in the pub.

But seems that you have started this Ill share my views on your saviour.

I honestly believe that a man that called himself jesus was the first conman in recorded history and is no different to to the cult leaders getting around today.

Look its all good when you believe in God/Jesus Christ/The Virgin Mary but when you do stuff like this like posting a huge thread (not that I read it) you start sounding like someone from Destiny Church who IMO seem to be trying to shove their religion and their beliefs on the rest of the nation. Like I told a few of my friends that are involved with that church "It's all good to believe what you believe but then to force it on someone it's not cool." If you think about it religion is the reason why terrorism is now a global threat. It is also the reason why peoples have been killed and and discriminated against.

I for one don't believe in God, Jesus etc... for all anyone knows the Bible could have been a story book for children. It has things in it that might ignite ones imagination. Who knows a few 1000 years down the track there might be ' The Gathering of Alice in Wonderland'. No-one actually knows that this stuff happened. No one now is alive to tell the REAL story.

why'd you waste my time by posting that S#$T????
this is a WARRIORS forum and as far as i'm concerned if it hasn't got anything to do with league than it's got no place in here. go paste it on jesus.com or sum S#$T!!!

That would of been more effective shorter.

Blind faith i don't think is a good idea. Though terrorism isn't really a global threat (You are more lilkey to get killed by a New Zealander than a terrorist). Religon can and has been used for peoples own ends rather than to benfit the populations of the world. Look at Ireland full of christains that used to kill each other.

God doesn't mind if you think, im not sure if he minds you questioning things aswell.

ok, so it's not ok for me to share a 3 line summary of what i think of his beliefs, and yet it is alright for someone to jam their 476 line beliefs down my throat by posting a thread that reads "News for you ( please read it)"?
go home buddy, i'd like to see this brought up in a pub dik. now you've got me spittin on you.

I'm the first one to tackle this subject, probably with the most experience, i'm a credential carrying, certified pastor, after wasting four years of my life in ministry college. i just don't agreee with the forceful nature of many 'christians' forcing what they believe onto unsuspecting civillians who if they wanted to read about 'jesus the mediator' would pick up a bible, not log onto a rugby league website, got me?

What JonB is really trying to say is that although the dude posted his opinion you too can post your opinion however it would have been way more effective had you sat down, wrote in proper English, used grammar where it is needed and made it more readable.

It's all good though, I do know where you are coming from.

Sorry guys for my posts, still gettin used to this forum thing, i just get fired up a little when it comes to this subject, as it is a touchy subject for me. I believe with all my heart that God exists, but thats about as far as my faith goes, I'm a former Assemblies of God Pastor, working mainly in youth, and have had a lot of trials and tribulations of my own, sorry if i offended anyone by my comments.

Some people need a faith and some don't, I'm one of the don't need one section.

I personally don't believe in "God" and any form of organised religion.

But I think there was a person called Jesus and I know someone was called Mohommad .

Still I think that this conversation should not be on this site, even under the Pub banner.

Ive always been told to believe half of what you see and none of what you read.

I started to read the bible a long time ago, attended church on a regular basis and considered myself born again.

But after reading that a bloke had to sacrifice his only child to god so god would give him more kids I decided that it was all a load of hypocritical ravings.

posting this stuff is not shoving it down your throats. if you don't want to read it then that's your decision but for those who do then good for them. i enjoyed reading some of it as a christian and for others who are atheists don't go complaining just because an informative post is challenging your religion or lack of it.
