Hey y'all.
Firstly, apologies to the general masses. This competition is a carry over from last year and is full at present. For those participating tajhay, Fazz, Lord Gnome of Howick MBE, Ryan, HD, MarkW, Danpatmac, Dankokoro 2.0, mt.wellington, Spence, 22 BEAST, Lego_Man.
There have been some rule/scoring changes since last year. One of which I totally do not agree with.
You can read them all at the link below, but essentially the changes are:
- There are now 'attacking' and 'defensive' forward awards. The criteria for each aren't disclosed but you can check them on the calculators on the website same as last year. Attacking forwards are based on hitups, metres, offloads etc and will earn you +4. Defensive forwards are obviously based on tackles and missed tackles and will take -4 off your opponent's total. A player is eligible for both awards.
- Dominant Players have been replaced by 'People's players'. This is (IMO) the worst rule change. Last year there were 3 dominant players per match. Each getting +4. Now we have 3 'people's players' awards, though they score 4, 2 and 1 point for 1st, 2nd, 3rd. The ranking is determined by votes and a new statistical criteria will also be thrown into the mix.
Essentially, there is now next to no reason to buy a non-goal kicking half. The other shit part about this rule, is that forward's are eligible for the people's players award. So Paul Gallen (fan favourite), may score +4 for his attack, -4 to opponent for his defence, score a try, then get the +4 for people's player. He'll end up with a net of +12 (+16 when you include the -4 to opposition), while Todd Carney or another player who has played really well will end up with +2 or +1.
Also, as is the retardation of the voting public. Many voters will vote based simply on the highlights they've watched, or for players they own. Some vote based on reading a match review or looking at the end score! In essence, as with last year, a winger who may do fuck all but dot down in the corner for 2-3 tries will receive the extra +4 for 'dominant player' and end up with +16 points, while the half that threw the passes to set up the tries will end up with +2 or +1.
As far as I'm concerned this scoring system has only weakened the game. All emphasis will be on high work rate forwards and wingers.
Anyway there are a few little changes we can alter when setting up the comp. But have a read of the full set of changes here.
Comp's open on 12th Feb.
