Easy. Simon Mannering. Does all the thankless type tasks such cleaning up behind the ruck area, chasing kicks, OTL scrambling defence. Will never make the highlight reels but its no surprise that every player I have ever spoken to rates his on field and off field actions as being the mark of a true leader. I have never heard a fellow player say anything but good things about him and all, without fail, speak highly of his contribution and work ethic. Thats exactly why he is the captain of our team and nation...

Mannering is highly rated imo by all and sundry lol

Sam Rapira gets my vote , one I'm a fan ( declare the bias so haters can spare reading further ) two Rapira runs hard ( go to the park and see it on TV the impact is nonsense ) chases the hardest out of marker of anyone in this team.

Actually only noticed that this season. He plays more like a Lock/hooker. Always chases hard out of dummy and puts some great pressure on the halves. Sadly he's been noticed in that area of the game for the wrong reasons lately but he is a hard worker in that area and deserves the attention. Good on ya Sup42 ...

yeah bro he's too bloody good at it for the Reffs liking , I've replayed a few of those slap downs and the ball has cleared the ruck , but the Reffs treat a pass from Dummy half like a slap on the wrist in basketball ( wrongly imo ) once its transitioned to the act of passing if Rapira stood square it's like any pass in the game It's no longer part of what is defined as the Ruck

The ruck is located between the player playing-the-ball and the defending marker.[5] The ruck exists during the time between a tackle being completed and the subsequent play-the-ball being completed.[6] The ball cannot be interfered with by a defending player whilst it is in the ruck, otherwise a penalty will be issued against that player's team.

Said this many times before but a lot of people when bagging Simon say things like they don't see him talking enough behind the posts etc, for me being the captain is way more the 80 minutes of game time every week, it's all the things we as fans never get to see and how they contribute. When the people that do actually see those times say how highly they rate him I'll take their opinion over anyone else's thank you.

I will go with Sam Rapira. He's had a stunted season due to injury, but has quietly built his way back into really good form and I expect him to be playing for the Kiwis in the World Cup. Big Sam is only 26 years old and should be hitting his peak in the next 3 years. I'm really hoping he's left his injury troubles behind him and can start to realise his full potential.

Big Slammin' Sam Rapira, always punching above his weight, his No Fear™ runs are the balls.
Loved the Mongrel he showed by targeting Third Man Thaiday™ at Mt. Smart this year.

The likes of Lillyman should be ashamed. Jacked up like an enormous bull but zero punch to his runs.

I will go for Sam as well, he is one of those guys players love playing with, does the dull, dirty and dangerous work

I'm going with Friend, we were shit till he came back from injury and his contribution week in week out is constant. No doubt he gets targeted by the big forwards who try to run all over him but he never takes a backward step. As with the others mentioned he will never make the highlights reel but is the most under-rated in the team.
Simon IMHO is not as under-rated he has picked up MOM many times this year which is a reflection of his major step up this year.
His dominating tackles this year are possibly the best in the comp and although he doesn't appear to be that big he is very rarely injured which is a huge plus to have someone with his ability in the team every week.

Underrated by this forum? Definitely the madman Sammy rapira.
A couple of people have mentioned how bad we were before friend came back- not sure if that's coz friend is such a great hooker or coz Taylor is such a useless one

While he may have technically be in the right the fact that he keeps doing it while being penalized is stupid (the last one being with 2 mins to go when we are up by 2 is about as stupid as it gets). I saw one time he wasn't penalized but was ruled to have played at the ball, the opposition team dived on the ball and got a repeat set. It is a dumb low percentage play. I would prefer the refs to err on the side of penalizing if it is close as no one wants to watch a game where markers are constantly swatting at the dummy halves hands.

But apart from persisitng witht the slap he has been awesome. He has kept his intensity when Llyman and Ben have been cruising

Ropo for sure guys, did you see his game last week? Two tries! He's back to his prime and now the best outside back in the game easily whether it's centre, wing or fullback.

If everyone keeps voting Sam Rapira as the most underrated then is he really underrated? Frankly, I think Rapira is the best performing prop out of the Awesome Foursome Rotation of Masturbation this year.

As far as the most under rated player goes, I'm going with Nielsen. He is recently feeling the hatred on this forum because he doesn't pass it to the mascot and although I'm not about to say its completely unwarranted, I think his work off the ball is being extremely under-appreciated.

This might be unpopular but my vote goes to Neilson. Our left edge defence is 10 times better than last year, he may not pass as much as some would like, but he does the job and can draw and pass when needed. After years of 2nd rowers filling in at centre its such a breath of fresh air to have a solid dependable proffessional

Todays display showed how much he has been holding Manu back.
