General "Mana" on defence

Question for everyone here:What do you as fans want to see different at the Warriors, if you could pick one thing.

I want to see "Mana" on defence. I want to see players actually put some big hits. Its not about smashing guys to the ground, its about having something to protect for me.

I remember the game Vs. The Bulldogs Rd 2, 2003 where we were defending the 3-4th set on our own line and we had players like Logan Swan dragging players like a sack of patatoes to deny them going over the line. It was really good and intimidating and the way the team defended their line was great.

The same thing happend Vs. the Broncos in 2003 where I think all Warriors fans would agree the best ever Warriors game was played. That match had so much mana from players, not just the biffo - which wasnt a Saturday night brawl but players defending each other. Awen came in because Koopu was being held back at the time and Koopu came in to help out Monty who was giving McGuire a few punches.

One thing that I really wanted to tell Cleary before the pre-season was about being more motivated to tackle on defence and not leaving others to do your job. For me the Raiders game had some of that where the players raised the intensity on defence (especially Ropati, Taukura, Anderson), but at the same time we had points leaking out the other end. Maybe that is a reason Cleary chose three second rowers in the starting forward pack and three second rowers off the bench to increase mobility. But how much go forward will we lose because of it?

Mana is an aura of respectability that someone has. Its not something a team can try and get playing defence. I personally think the word is over used and should be reserved for a select few like Wiki and Buck Shelford.

That being said, I agree with you, we need to really stand up and show some respect for the Jersey.

One of my saddest moments as a fan was watching the Warriors in 2004 get strips torn off them in Christchurch by the Tigers, nobody showed any sort of backbone or respect for the club

Particularly Villa he rolled over and got beat up like a deadset cat.

Totally agree there MattyJ. They have to believe in what they are doing to have that type of commitment.
You can't ask someone for it, it can only be given.
I hope the players believe in The New Zealand warriors and have the respect for each other to give it up on the feild for each other.
Its the sort of thing that makes the game great.

100% effort and commitment by every single player on the field is what I want to see week it and week out.
Win or lose, you can't ask for more than that.

Respect is something that must be earned by a team, and AS a team. Opposing teams will always rip the other team`s jerseys off if they know they CAN, and the best way for the Warriors to gain respect is to play hard, aggressive football on the field each and every game. If they do just that, opposing teams will soon learn the meaning of respect for the Warriors.

Winning the close ones would be my pick. That real urgency when the clocks ticking to go - just do anything to get the win.

(But yeah Mosh - Bring Back the Biff.. Ar Ar Arr :) )

There is no one on the Warriors team that cna fight?

Like Wiki wouldnt be setting himself up for a scrap with the others more concerned about winning?
As leaders they wouldnt want any more controversy/ publicity or media attention based on the off field crap thats going around!

Its easy!

Just Frickn Win!

Thats all anybody wants and the media would have forgotten about the off field crap!

That way you can beat all them NRL teams on the filed and off the field with WINNING RESULTS!

Its easy as that!
