To get an idea of how many frequent this forum that have an involvement with local rugby league, feel free to add some comments here. For all intents and purposes I mean Bartercard and under.

(Hat tip:RS_Dragon)

Also, what do you think is the biggest challenge(s) in your role and the biggest issue(s) in rugby league?

I'm a former player and current fan. I get out and support my local side when work permits (The Timaru Warriors) I'd made contact with the Timaru Warriors to get involved with them on a coaching/admin basics BUT work commitments mean i'm unable to get involved in any other way than as a supporter. Work has also impacted on me playing cricket in the summer E.G - i don't play cricket or coach it anymore either.
I'll be taking myself off weekend roster in the next 6 six months so will be involving myself in the local rugby league team then and also hopefully be involved in cricket again also.

Used to play but not at any great level. All flair and no application or drive, I preferred to enjoy myself when I played. Lack of conditioning resulted in too many injuries. Currently a fan who makes an occasional trek to watch the Lions but really should make more of an effort to watch them.

Was applying for the GM of the Waitakere RL BC franchise but after procuring the job description and application decided that I lacked the necessary contacts to obtain the required funding and withdrew. Will revisit that kind of involvement at a later date, family situation dependant (takes precedence).

Paul Holmes: I think i saw you guys play at Caro Bay last year. What position were you at?

Polar Bob: Do you know any of the guys that have been involved in previous years? My cousin was involved in the management of the Waitakere team a few years back.

Nah. I've kept out of the league scene for many a year and am just starting to get my head around where I want to fit in. I don't really know anyone in it anymore. Lots to learn.

I must say that Waitakere made a good move with Bernie Perenara. Love his work.

I'd prefer to see an option for 'none of the above', as that's where I'm at. League isn't a generational thing for me - I was brought up with football - and I have only adopted the code within the last twelve years. As such, I've only been to a few grass roots games, and mostly because I knew one or two of the players.

Lol, too late! I convinced myself that going to see my friends play two or three games was enough to qualify me as a fan...

Yeah i remember you guys.

lol funny thing was in that game, you guys scored in the corner where me the mrs and my oldman were standing, but your player actually grounded it short then lost it trying to reach out....but the ref gave the try anyway. So i started to give the ref grief saying "how could you have seen that" and you "can't award that you didn't even see it and he never got the ball the ball down"
lol then the ref gave the try, blew for a penalty, looked at me, pulled one of the Warriors players aside that wasn't even involved in the movement and sent him to the bin for 10 lol.
Man i still laugh about that.
Yeah that boomer fella is a good player, has he played senior much?

That game was the first time my mrs had seen a game of league live. She said are they always this physical, i said most games are yeah or even more so.
She's always been a union fan, but said after this game that she can see why i've always said that league players are tougher and more skillfull than union players. So she is partly converted after that game:)

Are the Warriors still playing at the moment PH, i haven't been able to keep up with them because of work and i haven't any news of them in the paper.

haha thats awesome im gonna tell the boys that
yea they still have a team this year although only just, they defaulted their first game to us and have had a few other defaults with teams not being able to get the numbers to go down south (us included) so they arent getting much game time.. got walloped by about 70 points by woolston a couple weeks back so must be doing it pretty tough.

They were a good team last year though, we played them twice, once in timaru and once at addingtons home ground in the semis which we won by about 10 points i think

Unfortunately they lost there full back to union (current south canterbury fullback). 5/8 to union (temuka senior team). hooker retired. Prop (out for the season injured, he is also a former NZ junior rep). Also about another 4 or 5 who have moved away from the district so are probably doing it tough i imagine.

I am none of the above though I am involved with my rugby club so if i was a leaguie, I would be involved with my club.
It is disapointing the way that local sport in general is going it needs more of all of the above.

Yeah unfortunately work is pushing sport out more and more.
I read somewhere recently that Japan is the only developed nation in the world that spends more time at then NZ, yet our average take home pay is very low on the devoloped nation list. This put together all unfortunately means sports of all sorts is the loser.
