Exciting prospect Leka Halasima has capped an outstanding season by being named the One New Zealand Warriors SG Ball Cup player of the year at the team's awards function last night.

And capping off the achievement, it has also been announced that the 17-year-old back rower has been signed for a further three years by the club.

The Southern Cross Campus product was a standout as the One New Zealand Warriors made their return to the under-18 competition after a three-year absence.

Not only did he excel for the SG Ball Cup side but he was also promoted to make his debut in the New South Wales Cup, initially with four interchange appearances and then in the starting line-up the past two weeks when he scored two tries against Parramatta and another against the Roosters last Sunday.
Earlier he scored two tries in six games in the SG Ball.

The One New Zealand Warriors finished the SG Ball season in ninth place with a record of four wins and five losses.
Of the squad used, second rower Jacob Laban, Halasima and now captain Tanner Stowers-Smith have all stepped up to play in the New South Wales Cup.

Remember the name, Leka Halasima.

Leka (Lé-Ga)
Halasima (Ha-la-C-ma)

If this kid fulfills his potential we will see a superstar being developed. Has all the skills and physical attributes. Just needs to put the work in. Ive been blown away by watching him step up to NSW Cup at 17yo and perform well.

Plenty of hype around him from a lot of people in the know (coaches, trainers, recruiters, agents). Hope he delivers...

Very high hopes for Halasima - outside of Johnson and Sonny Fai (RIL), he is one of the best junior prospects the club has seen. No dramas stepping up to playing against men, but it will be interesting to see how he goes with two NRL preseasons under his belt (he probably shouldn't debut in 2024 unless he absolutely kills it in Cup). Don't want to get too hyped after the Kepus were a fizz, but it is hard to not be excited!

Trying not to further derail the Laban thread. The club injury report states Halasima injured his ankle against the Dolphins in Week 2 of preseason comp but there's no sign of him as playing in that match on the NRL website. Did he actually feature?

Leka made the TOTW after his great performance in the first trial vs the Tigers
Then he was named to play on Team List Tuesday for Trial #2 but wasn't on the team list on gameday.
The article must be slightly incorrect and should read that he got injured in the week leading up to the trial against the Dolphins.

Think this is correct, he's not listed on the NRL app for the Dolphins game but is and had stats for the Tigers game.
