The NRL today announced the 21st-round match against Cronulla (match day sponsor: ZM) will be played on Saturday, August 3, with the Canberra encounter – the traditional old boys’ day – set down for Saturday, August 31 (match day sponsor: Vodafone).

The remaining home game – the 23rd-round game against Penrith – will be played on Sunday, August 18 (4.00pm kick-off).

Vodafone Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah welcomed the Saturday night scheduling for the games against Cronulla and Canberra.

“We’ve had only Sunday afternoon games at Mount Smart Stadium so far this season so it’s great to mix it up with Saturday night games at last,” he said.

“Our members told us they wanted some Saturday night football and we took their concerns to the NRL. They’ve listened and now we look forward to members and fans showing their support by turning out in big numbers for those games.

“We’re also really pleased with the kick-off times of 5.00pm. They’re appealing for families and they provide us with the chance to market the game day experience in another way. We’ve got some plans we’ll be revealing soon.”

The Cronulla game day will follow the tripleheader formula which has been a feature of the season so far, kicking off with the Warriors Cup grand final in the College Rugby League Premier First XIII Competition. The top six schools have one more round to play before the semi-finalists are found.

The Vodafone Warriors’ last three away games also have a two-one Saturday split.

The 22nd-round encounter with Manly has been set down for Sunday, August 11 (2.00pm kick-off and now at Bluetongue Stadium) and the final regular season match against the St George Illawarra Dragons at WIN Stadium in Wollongong will kick off at 3.00pm on Saturday, September 7.

The match against Gold Coast at Skilled Park has been confirmed for Saturday, August 24 (5.30pm).

What a cop out by the NRL. Don't wanna give us some prime time so they bring back some crappy time-slots :/

One of the major bonuses of this draw, is that they've really looked after us in terms of playing time in OZ - all those slots are early which means it won't effect the boys body clocks much at all.

I like Saturday night games at Mt Smart... it's normally cold, often miserable, and opposition teams hate tend to not do very well.

wonder if that means 1pm Vulcans and 3pm U20s as well - that'd be a good Saturday afternoon :)

From a completely selfish point of view - I like the 5pm Saturday slot. There's not normally anything I'm required to do/attend at that time.

I like the 5:30 Saturday slot - good compromise between family friendly time (for finishing) and allows a day of doing something else and the rest of the evening's still left (7:30, 9:30 Saturday games).

Still not sold on Monday or Thursday night games.

The Saturday game against the Sharks is a triple header with the final of the Secondary Schools Comp, followed by the Juniors and then FG.

5pm games are great for ones like me who want to drive up to Aucks from out of town. Means we can still get home at a reasonable time. This will mean I will take in at least one home game and maybe 2 that I wouldn't have otherwise been to

The only time slots I hate at 9:30pm NZT kick offs. Any other time is fine by me!

Good run home too, should beat all those teams at home.

Definitely excited for the remainder of the season, going to the Tigers game at Liechardt which is two days after State of Origin so that will be a few big days in Sydney, also a mate wanted his Stag do in August somewhere in Aus that wasn't Melbourne or Sydney so I "coincidentaly" have organised a trip to the Gold Coast the weekend of the 24th.

Well at 5pm kick off in a month when the first game is it'll be light til at least 6pm - probably 7pm in 2 months for that 2nd one. So basically day games.

I'm just assuming when he says fans wanted night games - they meant 7:30pm, as this 5pm nonsense is used very rarely.

I know the Warriors are the worst to accommodate on Aussie TV - so its kinda fair we get Sunday games (especially this year), but not fair they're all Sunday. A bit of a cop out as it will be pretty much light for the majority of both games - but its better than another Sunday Game.

Just so we're clear I really don't care when they play but enjoy Saturday night games here best, followed by Friday nights.

Scurrah did say that they have been bitching hard out to the NRL over the lack of night games so they gave them 2 games on Saturday...

From what I read on leaguehq.com.au yesterday - the NRL are sick of ARL having a monopoly on afternoon tv on Saturdays in Aus (not verbatim - just reading between the lines)... So in the final 5 or 6 rounds this year, they are staging 5 x 3pm AEST kick offs to compete with them... They've given the warriors 2 of them because a) our fans have requested not all Sunday games and b) they probably think that we'll get bigger crowds at 5pm on a Saturday than most Aus teams would at 3pm on a Saturday (not a typical league kick off time on Saturdays in Aus)...
