The NRL today announced the 21st-round match against Cronulla (match day sponsor: ZM) will be played on Saturday, August 3, with the Canberra encounter – the traditional old boys’ day – set down for Saturday, August 31 (match day sponsor: Vodafone).
The remaining home game – the 23rd-round game against Penrith – will be played on Sunday, August 18 (4.00pm kick-off).
Vodafone Warriors chief executive Wayne Scurrah welcomed the Saturday night scheduling for the games against Cronulla and Canberra.
“We’ve had only Sunday afternoon games at Mount Smart Stadium so far this season so it’s great to mix it up with Saturday night games at last,” he said.
“Our members told us they wanted some Saturday night football and we took their concerns to the NRL. They’ve listened and now we look forward to members and fans showing their support by turning out in big numbers for those games.
“We’re also really pleased with the kick-off times of 5.00pm. They’re appealing for families and they provide us with the chance to market the game day experience in another way. We’ve got some plans we’ll be revealing soon.”
The Cronulla game day will follow the tripleheader formula which has been a feature of the season so far, kicking off with the Warriors Cup grand final in the College Rugby League Premier First XIII Competition. The top six schools have one more round to play before the semi-finalists are found.
The Vodafone Warriors’ last three away games also have a two-one Saturday split.
The 22nd-round encounter with Manly has been set down for Sunday, August 11 (2.00pm kick-off and now at Bluetongue Stadium) and the final regular season match against the St George Illawarra Dragons at WIN Stadium in Wollongong will kick off at 3.00pm on Saturday, September 7.
The match against Gold Coast at Skilled Park has been confirmed for Saturday, August 24 (5.30pm).
