General Kiwis/Aussies @ the Warriors

Not that Aussie debate again. Who cares? Witt's obviously good enough to play @ 5/8, McKinnon is the next best who was on the market list, Ravs was the youngest given a big job to do after PL, and Fien and Gatis are top notices and Hohaia is till very much top of the class for covering three big positions. Aussies arenot the Warriors are makig their intentions very obvious. And we still have plenty of Kiwis around the team so I don't see why people think having aussies is a bad thing. Need I remind you we have an aussie coach, both current and in the past, and have had awsome Aussies for a fair few years. Eg; PJ, Campo..and the rest of them. And THEY NEVER had a problem with playing for a NZ based team.

As for Blinky and Sam, great to hear they'll be around for a while yet. Am glad that we are keeping them long term.

And all the best to Micheal in his move to Auckland :D

Nothing but positveness for this.

The Aussie coach point doesn't really hold water, because our last coach was Kemp, a Kiwi, and the coach before that was Daniel Anderson, who is part Maori. Before that we had Mark Graham, a Kiwi in the 80s, and before that, Graham Lowe, previous coach of the Kiwis. I think only John Monie was a true blue Aussie of all our coaches. But outside of that, I agree with your general statement.

I don't buy into the theory that as a club, the Warriors should only, (or predominantly), New Zealanders. The Warriors are a club, and they don't represent the country, despite their name. That's like buying into the similar theory that Team New Zealand actually represents New Zealand, when in actual fact it represents one yacht club. Otherwise America would have three national teams, lol!

The Warriors are just a football franchise in an Australian competetion. The NZRL dosen't seem to want to have anything to do with the Warriors regards to funding etc, the Warriors owe nothing to NZRL.

Quite frankly there are numerous Kiwi players getting opportunities at other clubs in the NRL, and the Warriors can damn well sign whoever they want, ultimately to improve their performace.

I couldn't care less if the whole team was Aussies.

If we don't snap up New Zealand players, other clubs will, and in the end everyone benefits. Warriors get who they wanted and other clubs get who they wanted.

Simple as that in my mind.

Oh and that is crap that the Warriors are doing nothing to develop the talent. We have a developement team that so far this year Misi, Ah Van and Rapira have come through. 3 in a season isn't too bad. Oh and we signed the Packer brothers. Oh and Manu and Mannering are in there that are recent development boys.

to be blunt not everyone in the bartercard cup will be able to make the step up and the reality is that if the warriors were made up entirely of batercard players they most likely would get flogged every week.

this is not too say that the bartercard is useless indeed some of our best players have come from there but I think it is unlikely at the moment to think that bartercard can supply every position in the warriors with the required talent.

Sure it would be nice if the warriors were made up of kiwis only but the reality is this is not possible and so aussies are brought in to fill the gaps. At the end of the day I really don't care how many kiwis are in the team so long as there are at least some there and that the team is wining.

as for the sigining of witt it proabbly is only for the one year as he was the only one really left on the market.

Well you lot can support the Australian warriors if you want, but i for one will not. I hope they never win a title with a team full of aussies. What a shallow victiry that would be. I don''t mind having Australian players in the team, but this is just getting ridiculous. I am sorry but my heart is no longer in this warriors franchise.

And fair enough, missing teeth. That's entirely your choice.

As for me, I support the Warriors - the club and the jersey - the nationality of players who wear those jerseys doesn't bother me in the slightest. I've long held the belief that I'd rather have the best player in each position than the best player who happens to be a Kiwi. That's how I view business, too.

When it comes to the international level, however, it's a completely different story! :D

Awesome, I am pretty sure Pricey doesn't want a fan like you anyway.

well good-bye then.

I don't think it would be shallow at all,in fact I think it will be awesome if the warriors lift the title in the near future.

this year I think we have 18 of the top 25 being kiwis or being able to play for the kiws and next year it will be almost the same.

some fans like you will never be happy until there are no aussies at the warriors at all.

I like to see a competitve team and if that means a few aussies are in the warriors then so be it. I would rather see that team than see the warriors get flogged every week.

last time I checked the warriors were a club team and not the international kiwi team.

we need our aussie imports that then give a chance for local talent to come through. if we only have new zealand born players we would be wooden spooners with mt smart empty, Witt is a good signing and this might fix our halves situation. lance will be breathing down their necks which will mean dont peform get dropped.
missing teeth you dont really sound like a warrior supporter if you can change teams on a whim????
a lot of players have left the warriors and become super stars why, why why????

The 2007 squad is looking pretty solid with just about everyone signed up for next year. We should not only have a very good starting line up, but the reserve options are also promising.
Unless we get a horror run of injuries , I would expect nothing less than a top 8 spot next year - god knows the fans deserve it.

Q: Are we all real true blue supporters of the Warriors? Are the ones here on this forum going to back the team regardless of who is playing where? I know I am, I love the Warriors and will stick by them no matter what.

If you look at kiwi halves, the only one that was a freak of nuture that could do it all was stacey. The domestic competition does not do enough to develop the talent to step up to NRL level. The aussie clubs have SG Ball, Jersey Flegg, Premier League and NRL. That have greater opportunities to develop players. If they get a kiwi junior who shows some skills of course they are going to keep them by renewing their contract. And that benefits the Kiwis and NZ rugby league.

I do not care that 1, 6, 7, and 9 are all aussies. If they can do the job who cares???

NRL is a professional game and you by the players you feel will perform to win. You do not discount somebody because he is an aussie, pom or a purple pokadot man, if he provides a better option than what you currently have available.

If you want a NZ team full of NZ players, pick a bartercard cup team and follow them.

jesbass, daniel anderson true blue aussie no maori there.

He has 1/8 Maori blood. You can even see it when you look at him in profile - especially his nose.

I did a google to find the information:
The Australian born coach of the Warriors rugby league team has acknowledged that he has a Maori whakapapa.
Daniel Anderson says one of his grandmothers was half Maori and came from the Clarke whanau - although he's not sure where those Clarkes were from.
He says he's planning to check out the Maori connection but, in the meantime, his top priority is to win games.

I agree. We purple polkadot men have been prejudiced for as long as I can remember.

jesbass i stand corrected .

Good on ya, danco. It takes a big man to acknowledge his mistakes. ;)

EDIT: I just realised that could have sounded patronising - sorry, it wasn't meant to be at all - just complimentary. :?
