Kirra Dibb (born 23 July 1997) is an Australian rugby league footballer who captains the North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL Women's Premiership.

Primarily a five-eighth, she is an Australian and New South Wales representative. She previously played for the Sydney Roosters New Zealand Warriors and Newcastle Knights in the NRL Women's Premiership, and the North Sydney Bears in the NSWRL Women's Premiership.

Dibb was born in North Gosford and is a Kincumber Colts junior and is of Indigenous Australian descent. She stopped playing rugby league as a 10-year old as there were no girl's competitions to compete in, instead playing touch football and Oztag.

In 2019, Dibb returned to rugby league, joining the North Sydney Bears in the NSWRL Women's Premiership. In May, she represented NSW Country at the Women's National Championships.

On 21 June, she made her debut for New South Wales, starting at five-eighth in their 14–4 win over Queensland. In July, she joined the Sydney Roosters NRL Women's Premiership side.[6] In Round 1 of the 2019 NRL Women's season, she made her debut in a 12–16 loss to the New Zealand Warriors.

In October, Dibb represented three Australian sides – the Prime Minister's XIII in their win over the Fiji Prime Minister's XIII, the Australia 9s team at the 2019 Rugby League World Cup 9s and the Australian Jillaroos in their 28–8 win over New Zealand.

In September, she joined the New Zealand Warriors NRL Women's Premiership side for the 2020 NRL Women's season, playing three games for the club.

On 3 December, Dibb signed with the Newcastle Knights to be a part of their inaugural NRLW squad.

In round 1 of the delayed 2021 NRL Women's season, Dibb made her club debut for the Knights against the Parramatta Eels.

On 24 June, Dibb made her return to the Origin arena starting at five-eighth in a victorious effort. The 20–14 victory featured a 40-metre solo try from Dibb to cap off her successful return to the game's biggest stage.

On 12 September, Dibb was named the Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership player of the year following a 2022 campaign that resulted in a Minor Premiership and sudden death finals exit.

On 2 October, Dibb played in the Knights' 2022 NRLW Grand Final win over the Parramatta Eels, kicking a goal in the Knights' 32–12 victory.

On 19 April, Dibb signed a two-year contract with the North Queensland Cowboys. On 28 June, she was named as the inaugural co-captain of the Cowboys, alongside Tallisha Harden.

In Round 1 of the 2023 NRL Women's season, she made her debut for the Cowboys, starting at halfback in a 16–6 loss to the Gold Coast Titans

Dibb singled out for top academic award

17 Nov 2020, 02:16 pm

Warriors standoff Kirra Dibb has claimed the top women's honour in the NRL-RLPA 2020 academic awards.

Each year the two organisations celebrate the academic achievements by naming an academic team of the year and singling out the best male and female student.

Former Sydney Roosters play maker Dibb, who debuted for the Warriors in this year's NRLW premiership, is completing a bachelor of applied science - exercise physiology at the University of Sydney.

Also named in the team of the year is new Vodafone Warriors centre Euan Aitken. The former St George Illawarra player Euan Aitken completed a certificate IV in fitness, is completing a bachelor of exercise science and also completed a cert IV in new small business (University of Wollongong).

Included in this year’s academic team of the year is Gold Coast winger Anthony Don, the first player in the full-time professional era to complete a master’s degree while still playing. There are six other current players undertaking a master’s programme.

Don was awarded the 2020 Academic Male of the Year honour.

"This year's academic team of the year will be remembered as one of the most disciplined and determined,’’ said NRL CEO Andrew Abdo.

“Our squads have been in a biosecurity bubble all year but the commitment of these players to continue to further their studies during the pandemic is a remarkable achievement.

“As a game we are very proud to have around 100 players who have completed or are completing tertiary degrees and a further 100 who are completing traditional trades. Rugby league is about teamwork, communication, discipline and focus.

“We’ll continue to invest heavily in the wellbeing and education area to ensure our players are prepared for life after rugby league.”
RLPA chief executive Clint Newton said education should always be a priority for the game.

“We congratulate the academic achievements of these individuals, who are rightfully being celebrated for their continued engagement in career development, despite the many challenges season 2020 has placed before them,” said Newton.

“We need to continue supporting and championing players, investing in their future by prioritising education and professional development.”

NRL wellbeing and education manager Paul Heptonstall said of 550 contracted players, 93 current NRL players have completed or are completing a university degree, while seven players are doing a masters degree, through 32 different universities.

A further 106 players are completing traditional trades while a total of 610 VET qualifications have been achieved by all the Players.

“We have 84 percent of players currently engaged in career development,” said Heptonstall.

“We have long believed, and it is backed up by research, that players who further their education are more likely to succeed on the field.

“It is also pleasing to see some of our most successful Clubs off the field are some of the most engaged clubs with their off-field development and education.

“An enormous amount of credit must be given to all the club career coaches who have worked tirelessly in helping the players achieve their goals.”

Kirra Dibb joins inaugural NRLW squad

Fri 28 Jan 2022, 02:00 pm

The nib Newcastle Knights are delighted to welcome, Kirra Dibb, to the NRLW squad for the upcoming 2021 season.

A New South Wales and Australian Jillaroos representative player, the athletic utility adds considerable talent and NRLW experience to the current roster.

Dibb has already linked up with her new teammates ahead of the side’s inaugural campaign in the elite women’s competition.

NRLW Head Coach, Casey Bromilow, said he was ecstatic to have a player of Dibb’s quality join the squad.

“Kirra has not missed a beat since joining our squad. She is an enthusiastic and vibrant personality whom the other players have immediately embraced," Bromilow said “Kirra joins our squad in a utility role. Her ability to play halves, outside-backs and fullback is immensely valuable given the uncertainty around COVID and the impacts it may have.”

“Being from the Central Coast, Kirra is a local player and one that we want to try and keep at the club long term. Our squad is certainly a lot stronger having her as part of the group.”

Born on the Central Coast, Dibb plied her trade initially in the NSWRL Women’s Premiership before making her debut at the State of Origin level in 2019.
Having played six games in the NRLW across two seasons, the 24-year-old featured for the Sydney Roosters in the 2019 campaign before linking with the Warriors in 2020.

Dibb has also worn the green and gold for three different teams including the Prime Minister's XIII, Australian 9’s side and the Jillaroos.

The playmaker had a debut to remember for the Jillaroos setting up two tries in a convincing win over the New Zealand Kiwi Ferns in 2019.

Ahead of the highly-anticipated, rescheduled 2021 season, Dibb’s signing is a huge coup for the Club with just under a month to go until Round 1 at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Knights can confirm Emma Sykes hasn’t agreed to return for the 2021 NRLW season.

Dibb extends to 2026

Wed 29 Nov 2023, 10:59 am

The North Queensland Cowboys have announced the re-signing of NRLW co-captain Kirra Dibb on a two-year extension, which will see the talented halfback remain at the club until the end of 2026.

The 26-year-old was part of the Cowboys inaugural NRLW season in 2023 and will now remain in Townsville for another two years.

Dibb made nine appearances for the Cowboys this season for five try assists, five-line break assists, 119 tackles, and an average of 209 kicking metres per game.

She represented the Sky Blues twice – 2019 and 2022 – along with playing an instrumental role for the Newcastle Knights in their 2022 NRLW Grand Final win.

Dibb has been a mainstay for the North Sydney Bears in the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership since 2019, guiding the foundation club to two consecutive Minor Premierships in 2022-23.

She was also named Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership Player of the Year at last year’s Brad Fittler Medal.

Since making her debut in 2019, the Kincumber Colts junior has made 27 appearances in the NRLW and will continue to bring valued experience to the young Cowboys team.

“We’re very pleased to extend Kirra,” Cowboys NRLW coach Ben Jeffries told cowboys.com.au.

“She is a marquee half in the game and truly invested in what we’re trying to develop up here in North Queensland.

“She is highly driven on and off the field and is a great role model for players aspiring to be in the NRLW.

“Being one of our co-captains, Kirra will also assist in developing our younger halves coming through our pathway.”
