Jonathan Smith

Jonathan Smith 2000 1.webp

Jonathan Smith (born 28 February 1979) is a former New Zealand rugby league footballer. His position of preference was in the second row.

A junior from the Mangere East Hawks, Smith was a Junior Kiwi in 1998. He was then signed by the Auckland Warriors in 2000. While at the Warriors he played in the Queensland Cup for Wynnum Manly Seagulls and Brisbane Souths due to a feeder agreement between the clubs and also played for the Otahuhu Leopards in the Bartercard Cup. He went on to make seven first grade appearances for the club between 2000 and 2001. Confusingly there was also a Jonathon Smith at the club at the same time, although he did not make any first grade appearances. He came off contract at the end of the 2001 season and was not offered a new deal.

He played for Otahuhu in the 2002 Bartercard Cup.

Smith toured the Cook Islands in 1998 with the New Zealand Māori.

#84 Jonathan Smith

Unfortunately Jonathan Smith has always been a ghost during all our previous updates and this time is no different.

There was a mention of him at the last Old Boys game in 2025...

Among them was Warrior #84 Jonathan Smith (2000-2001), impressed with the experience in what he said was his first visit back to the club in just on 25 years.

IF ANYONE HAS A RECENT UPDATE FOR JONATHAN SMITH PLEASE LET US KNOW...

Have told this story on the old forum but I actually met Jonathan at the first Auckland Nines tourney in 2014. I didnt know it was him but noticed he was wearing a rare 1997 trial jersey. Went up and spoke to him about it and he tried to lie to me about how he got it then his mates told me he use to play for the Warriors. Showed him a photo of my collection and he literally takes the jersey off his back and just hands it to me. I was blown away to say the least. Never seen him since but I owe that man a beer or 10 next time we cross paths...
