Joel Moon 2009 4

Now at first, I thought this rumour had no depth to it. I was reading the Australian newspaper today and it said this...

"Brisbane is likely to see a flurry of movement in coming days, starting with Boyd and utility back Joel Moon.

Boyd has taken up an option for next year with the Broncos but the club has told the Queensland winger it will allow him to leave if he finds a more palatable offer.

That's expected to come his way via the Dragons.

Moon is expected to announce he is leaving Brisbane for the Warriors at the end of the season."

Now I know a lot of you don't think much of him and what he has done at centre, and I haven't seen him prove the sceptics wrong just yet, but I live in Brisbane and this kid was back page news for about 12 months before he played first grade, his potential must be enormous. He isn't a centre and has played stand off his whole juniour career, and like a few of you have mentioned was pursued very aggressively by Craig Bellamy for the Storm who threw truckloads of money at him.

If this signing is more than just a rumour, I think it could be one of the smartest decisions the recruiting office at the warriors has made in a while.

He hasn't set the world on fire yet but he's still only about 19? if he realizes his potential and lives up to the wraps people such as Gorden Tallis, Allan Langer, Arthur Beetson and co have had on him for the last few years, we will reap the benifits.

Wow, our rumours seem quite reliable. Now yesterday when Moon scored his try, he looked full of anger, far from happy. He must be upset to have to leave Brisbane, he`s still very young. Hopefully the Warriors club and the players will look after him and make him feel at home.

I'm going to guess that he is either going to be playing at center which means...moving Ropati...or if he does wanna play 5/8 does that also mean no Witty? :(

I'm not excited about this potential signing!

He played in the halves last night and wasn't that impressive.
He made one good run, but he lacks control of the team and a decent kicking game for someone in the halves!
Karmichael Hunt was controlling the Broncos last night!

What's wrong with Isaac John????

I don't think the warriors will be signing him as a centre. He's a five eighth but because of Darren Lockyer he's had to play at centre.

Moon isn't a centre, and he isn't a halfback. He's a five eight, and potentially a damn good one. The hype he came with was huge and for good reason, but whether or not that translates to first grade is another thing.

I think he'll feel a bit more comfortable over here to play his natural game without the shadow of being the next Lockyer hanging over him. He's certainly a step up in class from Rovelli, Fien and Witt, and is a natural instinctive footballer if given the chance to use them.

If I was going to pick anyone out of current halves plus Moon to open up space for the likes of Fai, Matulino, Tate, Ropati, it'd be Moon by the length of the tasman. None of our other current options comes close.

Well next season he would have to be centre or else Rovelli to the Vulcans... Witt is good enough at five-eighth. Isn`t he?

Hmmm when I think about it actually, Witt is nothing special as a five-eighth. But surely Cleary`s not gonna play him in the Vulcans for all of 2009...

Yeah but if they are going to get another 5/8 one of them is going to have to move. So you reckon Witty into half then?

Witty is still improving. There have been games both this season and last season where he has close to excelled. So yeah potentially Witty into Half...?

Rovelli is expensive to waste at the Vulcans. When does his contract expire?

Toodle-ooo Rovelli, Fien and Hohaia. Know the last two are going to catch some comments, but they're jack of all trades, masters of none. Henderson and Pawley dummy halves from 2010 onwards.

I can usually rely on you to share my sentiments Iafeta. Definately agree again. Haven't been impressed with Hohaia really. Whenever given a new position he excels immediately, but as the weeks go by his form stats to slide away until he's tried somewhere else. Doesn't seem to have the mental ability to maintain a high standard.

Fien is similar and has been fading in the hooking role.

I see you rate Pawley as highly as I do. He's exactly what we need, he's a natural hooker. He has the ability to draw defenders and isolate them for the forwards to hit the line in a situation where they've got the best chance of making ground. Ah Mau and Poching don't need much help as it is, but they're given every opportunity to bust and bend the line through Pawley's subtle movements before delivering the ball.

Pawley reminds me so much of Danny Buderus. Gets out of dummy half for a couple of steps, then hits his forwards on the ad line after drawing the markers. Leeson Ah Mau got a massive wrap for that big run last week, but Pawley was opening up opportunities like that all night long. He's a very, very clever player. Could be our own Cameron Smith/Danny Buderus/Robbie Farah if managed well.

Agree on Hohaia, starts out well, then seems to get comfortable and falls away. Done it as a five eighth, hooker, centre and fullback now. Fien is a jack of all trades, master of none. Fien also started out very well at hooker but has failed to go on with the job. He also I think gives the club some comfort in reselecting Rovelli in their squad as Fien will cover, but Fien is not a first grade half.

Hard man, sounds good to me. I love Fien but would just prefer a specialist like Henderson who has been playing bloody well!

I agree with you, whenever I see the word `utility`, my inner translator comes up with: `good at nothing, but likes to look busy`. Never been a fan of either of the two.
