just been on the doggies forum sounds like james gavet without even pllaying a game has built a pretty strong fan following over the ditch they are rating him pretty highly and expect him to crack the doggies 17. I hope so this guy wouldv'e been one of my favourite players to watch from his time as a 2nd rower in toyota cup to nsw cup prop of the year his running style was awesome just hits the line at pace kinda the same as sam rapira but also has a sweet ofload. wish we had a kept him he would have easily made the 17 for the first round game he's the kinda guy bluey would have loved to have in the team.

Uhh... Bluey cut him though? Cleary was going to retain him, then Bluey cut him when he took over, didn't he?

I agree though, he was easily my favourite player to watch in the Vulcans. Whenever he makes first grade he's going to have a cult following.

He'll build up a rep at the Dogs and around the NRL and then sign for Souths, we all know what happens after that.

Not sure about that, he was being courted by the Bulldogs and Eels well before Bluey signed on the dotted line.

I'm sure every player will be courted one time or another, doesn't necessarily mean the club will let them go?

...add Tigers, Broncos and Manly to that as well bro but ultimately it did come down to Bluey not wanting him. Bluey said he'd get little 1st grade time with the 4 prop rotation they have. That decision was supported by Iro too. He wasn't even on the market when Bluey informed him. Sydney clubs are astounded we let him go!

Mid-2011 it was Parra, Manley and Tigers who wanted him; at the end of the season Parra withdrew interest after securing Tim Mannah's bro and themselves having to move one of their promising juniors up. Des was extremely interested at that time and unbeknownst to all (well us plebes anyway) he would eventually end up at the Dogs.

Biggest surprise though was getting rid of 4 of their second tier props (Poching, Houma and Lattimore). Lattimore was always leaving but Poching, Gavet and Houma were part of Ivan's development programme and had Cleary served out his original contract Poching and Gavet would probably still be here.

Big interest in him in Sydney right now and Des is now even more of fan. Don't expect a debut any earlier than end of March/early April though. An injury sustained early last year not picked up properly by Warriors management & medical staff left the Doggies getting a metal plate put into his ankle - fans across the ditch are aware of that and not impressed with Warriors management's inability to get it sorted.

Now the next cab(s) off the rank will be either second row converts (Lousi, Taái, Stevie Raps), returning props (Retzlaff), Vulcans or NYC players untried at open-age level and not necessarily in that order.

So he's got a fracture in the lower leg if he's having a plate put in I guessing? Bummer, when he first had the problem (mid year?), I think I remember him saying it was just a high ankle sprain.

Strange that Bluey passed on him, a player with that much raw power has to be worth the investment if the attitude is right (which I know it is).

14-0 to Bronco's at the 35min mark. Bronc's making the ladder leaders look pretty ordinary. Bronc's d is the stuff we can only dream about!
Dogs just scored 14-6. James looks solid. How can we get our hands on Reynolds?

Dogs were very impressive in the 2nd half and took the game from the Broncos. Martin Taupau scored a beaut and Barba too. Gavet went alright, nothing special but still a solid debut. KRISNAN INU was mean.

that ship has sailed but he is really stepping up and making his presence felt at centre. good reads and agressive defence mixed with very good attack. something we seem to be missing here. james gavet looked reasonable, i guess it's hard to pick everyone to keep here. you would hope we would have better understanding of who to keep and who to let go, or maybe we are to close to make a good, fair assessment of players
