General Ivan not getting on with the players? (Speculation Only!)

I am going to put a few dollars I have on the fact that Ivan Cleary has lost the respect of some of his players or he is not getting along with some of his players like Lance Hohaia and maybe some others and thats why the strange selections have been going on. Everyone knows Joey wanted to play halfback ever since he has been at the club and being dropped unceremoniously is a big insult to Joey!!

him is saying be happy with hooker or you'll be dropped.
Cleary has the right to do that but hohia would be the best halfback and therefore belongs at half. If he doesn't get over it expect a request to leave the club by hohia.

that's all speculation, you have no proof of that fact so dont go starting malicious rumours. the season is 2 games old for f&^k's sake. those sorts of rumours only cause problems. Give the team a chance to find their feet.

I just watched the classic match tonight, sharks vs warriors 2002 semi final match. Ivan knows more about Lance than we think, he played along side Hohia when Hohia was still attending school.
Ivan knows how much talent he has, but Ivan must also see something else that we dont cause his picks are strange to say the least.
Picking players out of position, atleast 1/3 of the team each week isnt going to work.

Imagine getting a builder, plumber, gib stoper, electrician and roofer round to work on ya house and then saying ok painter, you wire up the lights and plumber you start with the roof etc

actually mosh, if you read it again there is no way it is phrased as a question. it is phrased as an opinion, and with the way chinese whispers work, one person's opinion's soon turn into facts which will only destabalise the team when it inevatbly gets back to them. Lance isn't sulking merely stating a preference - he is also used to being dropped (remember last year and the year before.....). The key is he does come back and after last years game against the Sharks deserved his spot in the team and Kiwi selection. If this is the action of a guy sulking I'll go he! He'll get over it and as everyone is saying there is still a long way to go. My main beef with the team, and as highlighted in last nights replay against the Sharks, is that the forwards game are not providing options for the likes of Lance, Fien and Webby to exploit. No offloads - count the number this weekend.

some selections are a bit odd for sure but overall the team is pretty much the same each week. lance getting dropped is a curve ball but it gives gatis a chance to see what he can do.

and why can't a coach make changes ricky stuart last year was swapping his halves combination nearly every week.

a coach can teach, show, train , instruct,give game plans etc but when on the field its up to the captain and players not to drop the ball, throw stupid passes,kick useless kicks and forget how to play.the coach doesnt do that,

Finally got someone who thinks along the same lines as myself.

Only one question tho, and forget about what happened in regards of the cap.

How can you drop the ball if you're not given the chance to. aka Richard Villasanti.

I don't understand about the 'strange selections' that are being referred to. It was stated long before the season started who the hooker / half / stand-off would be. If Lance has spat the dummy after 2 games, his dropping is understandable. And if he hasn't, the coach is just exercising his perogative to shake the side up in order to get some results happening on the park. Maybe Gatis is really putting his hand up at training & will add something this weekend that will get us the 2 points.
The thing is, Fien could get injured in a couple of weeks & Lance will have to stand up. That's the 'unknown' factor - Lance needs to ensure that his attitude is right for the entire season - we are only 2 rounds in and a lot can happen.

Lance has a ton of ability, he just has not really used it in the first two rounds. He has not made many runs (if any at all) from dummy half and he has not kicked from dummy half. As a result all the pressure is on the first ball runner or fein. The other teams can just line up and the warriors will go nowhere. Lance has let himself down by not showing his skills, he has provided no variety and no options. He should have been dropped. He is an eighty minute player, but if you are not providing anything for team, why should you stay on the field????

Good on gatis for making the team. I think he will provide some options. He will take some pressure of the seven and six and maybe the warriors will start playing some good football and winning a lot of games (in 02 and 03 the warriors had PJ, Stace, webby, and Ali). And if the do, Lance may struggle to make it back into the team

So you're implying that selection is based on personalities rather than form or strategy?

I think thats a immature approach to look at things as, you might aswell delete all the posts in this forum if you are going to say that one persons question/opinion is going to start a world wide rumour.

I think all American's are gay.
