General Is this the twilight of democracy?

As I understand it from main stream media the Hunter Biden Laptop pics are of him naked in his drugged up life.

The people wanting to expose a drug addict for having naked private photos are actually making themselves look like poor human beings.

Of course I have no way of knowing the specifics first hand.

But on the face of it, if those photos were just a naked messed up young man then in some ways it would be better for Bidden Snr to gain the sympathy as a father from having those Photos exposed by GOP figures....people would feel sorry for the Bidens.....decent people would be disgusted by those photos being weoponized.

Reminds me of when Bob Hawke cried over his addict daughter on TV.
It's the e-mails that talk about the big guy and now with some info leaking on the classified documents being about ukraine what was in those documents why was Hunter on burisma energy board.

Bruce what's the scoop on what they were get onto Twitter and find out for us?
Speaking of Elon, he apparently said we're going to have to grow kinder surprise babies for the taintless microplastics future dystopia, if you believe Russell's rants.

The Warriors should get onto this and download some props and strike centres. Three NAS's and a couple of Richie Blackmores.

The hypocrisy of Joey Bids having classified documents from his time as vice president who has no power to de classify these documents.

Where is the uproar is it because his name is not Trump?

Especially should be red-faced after what he said about Trump when he had classified documents.

Bruce what's the scoop on what they were get onto Twitter and find out for us?

Watch the language selected in the headlines like batch? Was it more than Trump or less than Trump?
Biden was overseas at the time of transition from Obama to Trump. It was staff that removed the files.
Trump could have used the same excuse, and returned the files, and nobody would have known anything about it...but he didn't...and still isn't.
That won't stop Fox though.

Trump, who I do not like, was charged over a phone call, at least enough to investigate
There is way more evidence than the phone call, and a grand jury has just found so.
I see that Russiagate has been further demolished by the latest Twitter files.
Not that I can see, and Mueller found that Russian did influence the 2016 election...and that Trump could have been charged when he left office.

Can’t see this happening in a first world democracy like NZ… hang on!

“The owners of a $170,000 yacht abandoned during the Sydney to Hobart must pay a third of its value to the Indigenous community that “owns and operates” the remote Tasmanian island where it washed ashore, according to the local Aboriginal Land Council….. Aboriginal Land Council of Tasmania now claim the boat is subject to an old Aboriginal sea law, which means it cannot be removed from the island until one-third of its value is paid or ownership is transferred to the Aboriginal people.”

Great article by Andrew Bacevich.
Time to get real.
Stop the brainwash.
”How long will U.S. soldiers remain in Iraq and Syria? Let’s just say that at the current rate of political change, if your grandchildren enlist, they could wind up there. The only real hope is that another president will do there what Biden did in Afghanistan, though maybe without the sanctions. That would be a distinct improvement. Meanwhile Bacevich urges his readers to drop the myth that we are part of an indispensable, exceptional empire. He calls for questioning or even ditching the three propositions that, he says, form the post-cold war “elite consensus”: 1) globalisation of corporate capitalism; 2) jettisoning norms derived from Judeo-Christian religious traditions and 3) muscular global leadership exercised by the U.S.

Supposedly “winning” the cold war warped the minds of American’s political class. “But here’s the thing: in reality the fall of the Berlin Wall didn’t change everything,” Bacevich writes. “Among the things it left fully intact was a stubborn resistance to learning in Washington. That poses a greater threat to the well-being of American people than communism or terrorism ever did.” Few have said it better than that.

Communism and terrorism are small potatoes compared to what our rapacious economic system, hyper-militarism and donor-bought government inflicts on Americans and on multitudes of the world’s people. From the vantage point of the 2020s, communism and terrorism look more like handy bogeymen, used for the vile purpose of manipulating American public opinion. Communism was thus deployed much longer, because even after the Soviet Union’s demise, mass psychosis regarding it continues to percolate through the American nation’s bloodstream, most recently causing fevers over China. The anti-communist spirochete appear incurable. Terrorism, on the other hand, only swung into sharp focus after 9-11, but soon achieved status as a national hallucination, revealing its utility as a casus belli in places that had nothing to do with the assault on the World Trade Towers.

So much for our noble wars. The world would be a better place, and so would the U.S., had they never happened.”

It's very Aldous Huxley a brave new tomorrow isn't it? How did a guy in the 1920s write about this? Kind of like he knew where the world was headed.
Kind of like George Orwells 1984 as well.

Bullshit the think-tank was only made a few years ago so those files had to be moved 2 times. SCI files moved from a scif.
Also Joey Bids was v.p not president so couldn't declassify the files like a president.
Also funny how the info leaks now that it was found before the midterms.
Why did he have files about England Iran and Ukraine?.
Seems like the democrats are trying to halt his bid at another run by leaking this information out.
I also think nothing will come of it.

Time to feed the rich to the poor. Nobody begrudges success but the system is heavily stacked in your favour the wealthier you are.
Depends… what’s the definition of new wealth?

‘The top 1 percent have captured nearly twice as much new wealth as the rest of the world during that period, according to Oxfam's annual inequality report, released Sunday. Their fortune soared by $26 trillion, while the bottom 99 percent only saw their net worth rise by $16 trillion.’

New wealth is generated by innovation, business, invention and capital investment. The ‘rich’ are creating it and the poor whose wealth has still risen $16 trillion has benefited. If you are not prepared to risk and don’t ‘create’, like 99% of the population, how much do you expect of the ‘created’ new wealth?

I think the solution is more than just trying to tax more income which hasn’t worked - wealth is very different to income.

But we also need to be careful what we wish for… Without the innovators and risk takers, the poor may not get that 16 trillion in new wealth…

Wealth can be measured in many forms to the individual in family, love, money, whatever is most important to them so yes wealth can sometimes have nothing to do with income. To take risks, an individual often needs backing of a person/business or income to take that gamble depending on what it is as the average joe doesn’t have that means. I’m a fan of watching dragons den and enjoy the haggling to make a deal, the dragons perhaps have taken that gamble to get to where they are but even with the greatest of ideas and entrepreneurship I’m yet to see a dragon take a risk, that’s shifted on to the person trying to secure the deal. When the person gets the funding for the percentage they are willing to give up of their company with minimal haggling, it’s safe to say the dragons know they’re onto a winner. I think much has changed where a million dollars is still life changing to many of us, but in the scheme of things it really is nothing. When considering the rise of the billionaire and still the poverty in the world, is that kind of wealth necessary?

From figures from October 2022, to be in the top 10% of the wealthiest people in the world, your household needs a net worth of just over $200,000 NZ (meaning a couple with a deposit for the average house in NZ are within the world’s top 10% wealthiest people) while if your household net worth is just over $1.7m NZD, you’re within the world wide 1 percenters.

If you just want to include NZ, to be within the top 10%, your household net worth is just over $2 mil while an individual needs just under $4 mil to be considered a 1 percenter in NZ.

And if you’re wondering how much you need to earn in NZ to be in the top 1% internationally, earning the average wage of $61,000 in NZ puts you into that international category. If you’re married and on the jobseeker benefit in NZ, you “earn“ more than 90% of the world’s working population.

In other words, it’s all about who you’re comparing yourself (or others) to, if you’re looking just in NZ or internationally, and if you’re considering income or wealth.

That just highlights how crazy the money the top 1% are holding.

Can you break down the share of the top 0.1% as a percentage of the 1% wealth internationally?

TBH, it’s not the 1 percenters, both internationally and NZ, where I think the issue is. According to a report from the CTU last year, the two wealthiest Kiwis combined net worth is greater that the combined net wealth of the lowest 30%.

The founder of Farmers, Robert Laidlaw was, at one stage, one of the richest men in NZ. He was also a Christian who, when he started Farmers, donated 10% of his income. When he sold the business, he was donating over 80%.
