Maori blood. However I want a tatoo of a Kiwi with the words Kiwis Rugby League.

Also I want a Maori tatoo, firstly would any of you or know anyone who would object to me have a Maori tatoo, and secondly if not, then would you please advise me on what tatoo I could or should have.

There will be some people that object to the Maori tattoo.

I am not Maori but I think that as long as you check that the tattoo isn't necessarily a tribes tattoo or a tattoo that has some special meaning or intended for someone or persons only then you should be ok.

Research what the tattoo means first. I have heard of countless cases where people go and get Chinese lettering only to find out that that wasn't at all what was intended to be put on.

I'm getting a tattoo soon actually in Greek because I am half greek.

so you are maori? where abouts you from? If you're maori bro it's your God given right to have a Ta Moko (maori tatoo). As for what tatoo you should or could have, everyones should be original, explaining where you come from, your whanau (family), Usually your awa (river) running through it. Tell me where you're from and i can help

He said he has no known Maori blood bro.

I'm not an expert on this subject - the above is just my opinion.

What is yours about non-Maori having Maori tattoos?

Do they see it as a sign of respect or disrespect?

So which side will you get it on, Wiki, or will you just get half a Greek word as a tattoo? And what about the other half? Does it deserve a tattoo, as well? There`s a lot to think about when considering a tattoo. I should`ve given it some more thought before getting that bullet hole tattoo on my forehead, although it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Thanks for your replies.

The reason why I want a Maori tatoo is because I genuinely feel, and always have felt a strong bond with Maoris. This because of the Welsh language and both Rugby League and Rugby Union.

The Welsh language is phonetic which I believe Maori is and though Maoris are genetically better suited, generally that the Welsh to play rugby, it's ingrained in both cultures I believe to play rugby in a bold way. To try to off-load at every opportunity and to use natural ability to beat a man and to win games.

yeah i realised that when i read the title of the topic again. at first all i saw was...
"Maori blood."

my bad. I personally don't see it as disrespect...
..however, Im not a fan of it. To us maori it's a sign of who we are and where we come from. when a pakeha gets it it's a beautiful gesture that they appreciate our culture. but it doesn't hold that same meaning.

I guess it has everything to do with the reason they get it.

Robbie Williams got his for fashion (i am assuming)

Ben Harper however spends a lot of time in NZ and has stated he has utmost admiration for the maori people and has been invited onto marae as an honourable Maori because of his respect and passion. He is covered from wrist to ankle in Ta Moko, 2 weeks of pain he went through to show his love for the culture, not for fashion.

same with Michael Franti (on a smaller scale that is)

I have no quams about the latter two getting Ta moko, but i don't applaude Robbie Williams. The man that performed the artwork on Robbie, Gorden Harawera, is now looked down upon in the Ta moko circles because of it.

Hahaha smart ass.

I'm getting it on my right tricep.

Kathidigo.

Not telling anyone what it means though and I probably won't. Unless they know Greek of course.

Here's some pics from my favourite Ta moko artist, Inia Taylor....

I meant with regards to speaking Maori, lol. He's the only Warriors who can speak it fluently. It was handy at the Warriors breakfast before the season started. We had him at our table, and I was getting him to translate all of the waiatas, lol! :D

I can't remember the exact price, TK. I think it was $300 for a table of eight people, plus Wairangi and physio Jude Spiers. At first I was a bit bummed that we didn't get two players, but I ended up enjoying it - I got to see things from both perspectives: the players and the staff. ;)
