With League season nearly over, how are you guys planning on using the new found time to do other things during the summer? Sure the Finals series would be of some interest to us, and then the World Cup, but the dreaded offseason always feels like an eternity.

What do you guys plan on using the extra time on the weekends towards? Personally im looking at getting into fishing, camping and/or golf. Need a leasure activity to pass the damn time.

Fishing too. Went out on Sunday in between Waiheke and Ponui Island. Perfect cure for my hangover, out at sea and raw fish salad. Got our limit in 2 hours including travel time to spot 'X'. All 40cm+ snapper and a couple great kingfish. Dont often get to see them in so early. Going to be a great season me thinks. If this is the effects of global warming then bring it on...

Not so much sport on. Probably following the ITM Cup. Really don't know how but I completely missed it last year. Can't recall it at all, but other than that can recall perfectly as far back as 2004.

Not a huge fan of football. My team's in the Championship so following their quest for promotion have one eye on their quest for promotion..

Fishing.

As a Kid I read Fishing books from Papakura Library from cover to cover ( all Eight books )

I realised soon that the methods the books recommended cost lots of money and so they were of little use.

Eeling turned out to be a poor mans River Monster fishing

Fishing with Spark plugs for sinkers and some twine with dough baits occupied many thousands of hours on the shores of the inner Manukau.

Walking 6Km to get to your spot spending nine hours or so with other way ward outcasts was the making of some dreamers who went on to escape the Hood forever.

Now days I take my own kids fishing and they have all the good gear , I don't fish , I work as their crew ....baiting lines doing some of the casting , landing netting or Gaffing their fish and putting on Live baits from the Rocks for them.

Good times good times , living life vicariously through ones children.

Did a lot of Eeling. Loved it. Had some monsters down our creek and use to sell it to the fish shop and use that money to buy nylon and a few hooks. Sinkers were anything, spark plugs, washers, bolts, rocks! I basically spent every available hour in my youth down at the creek or estuary.

Have a strong affinity to the sea. Its in the blood.

NZ Pilchards on the Flasher yesterday. American or South African are rubbish. Never do know what they are biting on though so I always take a bit of squid or try fresh Mackerel or if its planned then throw out the net for fresh mullet.

Got the Kingies on a live Slimy under a balloon right out the back of the boat. Got some monster Kahawai too. Just happen to see some small boil ups so threw out a lazy lure and trolled it through.

Good fun...

Continuing to strip, paint, renovate the outside of our house... it's just over a hundred years old, nothing flash, and it's needed a whole heap of work. Replacing rotten weatherboards, reputtying windows... had to rework a whole corner thanks to a rotten stud. Hard case thing, is that I can paint well enough, but I'm not a builder's arsehole, so I've had to learn all that stuff.

never caught a fish in my life but been many many times, you really DONT want to go fishing with me.

Im currently building a dining table out of Iron Bark railway sleepers, damn hard wood (that would be why they call it iron). Havent found anyone willing to rent me, or do for me anything that would be helpful so I have had to get creative in how to thickness and trim the sleepers to turn them into boards, been a bit of fun and have only spent 2-3 years on it so far. Should be done in another 2-3, maybe.

Im writing a kids book that I started some time ago, just have to flesh in some of the details and its finished. Oh and I read - heaps, but prefer sci-fi (especially really trashy space opera), fantasy and modern near future war sort of things that might just classify as sci fi but also classify as adventure books.

Lastly I need to work on some basic fitness. Long walks, hill climbs etc. Winter im pretty much a slug and really need to lose some wieght

Golf, anytime my self-esteem gets up a bit I go and play golf and that sorts it. The last time I fished was surf casting at 5 in the morning with a mate who (supposedly) was a gun fisherman, bullshit. In the end we bought some eggs and fishfingers from the supermarket.

I will probably alternate between lifting weights, reading in my hammock (assuming summer arrives) and staring at the NRL countdown app.

Also!!!! Pearl Jam (big day out, Jan), NRL Nines (Feb) and Bruce Springsteen (both shows, March) should keep me motivated to breathe for a while longer.
