General HD NRL Streaming - Is there a subscription service in NZ?

Fazz

Hey guys, I figure if there's any place to figure this out, its this forum.
I'm pretty over having sky, so I'm going to jump on the unlimited broadband train. The only thing keeping me clutching onto Sky is the NRL really. I know there are shitty free streams, but I was wondering if there are any subscription services that offer HD?

Any info would be mint because I'm cabbage and didn't see anything when I looked.

Have you tried the official nrl streams via their app? Its subscription based ie 14.99 per month and fairly decent. Might need to check if the streams are hd or not though.

Yeah i was looking into this

it says it has up to six games live with 2 delayed (whats the bet its the warriors delayed every week)

Looks like it relies on your internet connection for the quality but I doubt its in HD

Has anyone tried it in NZ? I was thinking its probably geo blocked and you would need a VPN set up to access it. Similar to that of netflix

Pretty sure its not available in NZ
& I don't think Sky will ever allow this to be in NZ. They like to exploit their monopoly - They'll probably pay a few mil extra to make sure it never happens. They are seriously evil.

Just get someone else to give you their iSky login.
Not HD but better than some of the streams I've used in the past for watching sport.

Word of warning about unlimited broardband, they put you in a separate bandwidth pool and fuck with your speeds bigtime. I'm pretty sure Orcon claim not to do that now but I'm on a capped plan with Orcon and often the speed is so terrible that i can't even stream a youtube clip.

Yeah you wont get on using your NZ IPL because its part of the SKY deal they have with the NRL but theres plenty of websites out there that can disguise it. In saying that, the quality of the stream is shit and you'll be running back to SKY in no time once the season starts, regardless of how fast your broadband is...

When I was in the states last, I used the official NRL livestream website to watch all the games. Not only did they have every game live, but they had every previous round of that year available to watch too. I thought the quality was actually really good... better than the quality of the ISKY streams I watch. If you could find a way around the IP address limitations, I definitely recommend it.

Im just hoping someone comes along and does what the did with the english premiere league here in NZ

I would drop sky like a hot potato for something like that or even better something like NFL gamepass (which is currently free in NZ atm)

Likewise mate. I hate paying $100 a month for SKY when all I want is the NRL. I usually cut it off after the NRL season ends but havent because of the RLWC.

SKY know this though and will fight tooth and nail for the NRL rights. Ive been told that the NRL coverage makes up a large percentage of their viewer base. They get a free ride here because there simply isnt any other broadcasters that can show all 8 games live.

Be interesting to see how well the EPL does with subscribers here...

Are Sky guaranteed the rights for the next 5 years because they pitched in on the latest TV rights deal?

And yes, I'd love a proper streaming service. Speaking of which, I'm headed to Canada next year, does anyone know the ins and outs of watching NRL from over there?

Cheers for the info! I figured I'd have to go with one of the site that shall not be named (not that it's actually illegal over there because they have no rights deal, correct?)

I'm headed to Toronto to check out the sights then moving down to Montreal for at least a year.

I used the official NRL stream with a vpn here in oz and its not bad but it is far from perfect. After you connect with the vpn and get to the game stream you can then turn off the vpn and watch via normal internet connection. There is HD but that's dependant on your internet connection. There were times when the official sites stream was too laggy to watch and had to go to an alternative site to watch.

No worries, yea I'm not sure on the legalities of the streaming but its never worried me either way! Never got over to the east coast while I was there, my brother did a roady from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic, loved it although I don't think theres much going on between the two coast's.

Ah, yeah I've heard road trips across Canada can get fairly boring. I'm mainly going there for the work (game development), so really only interested in the 3 main centres =D
