What on earth was Andrian Morley thinking? In the 68th minute of tonight's 0-25 whitewash to the Bulldogs, Adrian Morley did what plenty of other NRL players have probably wanted to do for years; he kneed Bulldogs hooker Corey Hughes in the lower abdomen whilst Hughes was playing the ball 1 metre out from the line.
Morley's brainsnap saw him sent from the field for the second season in the row against the Bulldogs at Telstra Stadium. Referee Jarred Maxwell consulted with touch judge Pat Reynolds before dismissing Morley.
Morley is likely to be charged with a high grade Contrary Conduct charge by the NRL Match Review Committee. The incident was an absolute disgrace and should attract a Grade 4-5 charge, effectively ending Adrian Morley's NRL and Roosters career.
For a player who's been surrrounded by controversy as a result of his playing style, it would be somewhat poetic if his career is ended by a lengthy suspension. Whilst it's a different type of infringement to the John Hopoate flying king hit or Danny Williams thugish punch, it deserves as much punishment.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs have made it 4 wins straight to stay in second spot. A bye next week ensures they will remain in the Top 4 at a minimum, and are likely to retain second spot on for and against.
A full match report will follow shortly.
