The One New Zealand Warriors are ready to don their colours for the first home game of the 2025 season, taking place this Friday night at the Go Media Stadium. This event ties in perfectly with the 30th anniversary of the club's pioneering debut against the Brisbane Broncos back on March 10, 1995.
For the first game day of 2025, the Warriors will be hosting the Manly Warringah, which was New Zealand's most popular side in the early 1990s before the Auckland Warriors made their mark. The atmosphere will be electric, echoing that unforgettable Friday night of lights 30 years ago. While there won't be any war re-enactment scenes this time around, the halftime break in the NRL contest will be lit up by a grand fireworks display.
Honouring Tohu Harris
The night will include a special feature, where the recently-retired captain Tohu Harris will be officially bid farewell, acknowledging his immense contribution over his seven seasons with the club. In a touching ceremonial moment just before the big game's kick-off, Harris will hand over the Warriors' hoe (paddle) to his successors Mitchell Barnett and James Fisher-Harris.
Game Day Festivities
The opening night will include two games, with the NRL fixture preceded by the second-round New South Wales Cup clash between the Warriors and the Sea Eagles. Both sides will feature a number of players with NRL experience. Following the 💙 Mighty NSW Cup match, it's Persil Junior Footy time, offering some fun for the kids.
Another highlight will be the unveiling of the Speight’s Clubrooms, offering the best seats in the house right behind the goal posts at the northern end of the ground. Fun, activities, and a wide range of food and refreshments will be scattered around the stadium, particularly in the GWM Fan Zone located beneath the big screen.
